Looks set to move to Reading. Good look to him - gave his all for us and put in some cracking displays, especially in the season just gone. Can’t begrudge him moving up a division. t.co/Js9CLjKHHB

A nice lad and a good player in spite of the 'didnt fancy her anyway' style comments we'll be seeing on here now.
My only regret is that he's going to such a boring club, but the obvious pay rise and chance to play at a higher level would be hard to say no to. Best of luck to him.

Might be the perfect club for him then. No massive expectations weighing on him or the team next season. He’ll get the chance to learn and develop too as I doubt he’ll be starting straight away. I still have reservations he’ll make the cut in the league above but even if it doesn’t work out he’ll have certainly got a solid pay rise. If Reading can get him more consistent and work on his shooting then they might prove us wrong about him.

Will be a shame to see Laurent go. Always clearly cared deeply about his displays for us and gave his all.
In any case, perhaps Reading can take that bust of Darwin from outside the library while they’re at it. Never had any time for that inconsequential trinket.

Looked a very good player against Liverpool at home and a few league games but went missing in other games. Inconsistency simlar to Docherty is the problem and what stops them being top Championship players but good that we get to see their class in our league.

A fantastic engine on him, but woeful end product. He's not a kid anymore and you wonder if that side of his game will improve? Under Bowen it might, but Reading fans he ain't no replacement for Swift I'm afraid. Good luck though.

I know what you are saying and we have all been guilty of that in the past (I certainly have been) but there is an element of truth here. He had a bit of a purple patch last season but I didnt see him as a stand out midfielder in L1 and I wont lose any sleep about him going but to be honest having seen someone put our current squad on twitter yesterday, it shows how poor our squad is and there arent many players I would be gutted if they left (perhaps Pierre and thats about it)
Good luck to the lad, I really hope he is a success and proves me wrong.

“ Laurent for me has flattered to deceive. I’m sure that there is a decent player hiding in there somewhere? But we have only seen it in very small bursts here and there? I don’t believe he has produced enough to warrant starting every game - but that may not necessarily be his fault?”
I posted that comment on 6th January 2019. I still stick by that comment now.
And is it any wonder that his performances have improved when the cameras have been on and it’s getting towards the end of his contract???

Laurent will go down as one of the most overrated Town players since I’ve started going for me.
He’ll struggle in the Championship as he’s consistently inconsistent. Extremely poor replacement for Swift if that’s what Reading are after.

Totally agree with most posters, good engine, but cant see him scoring many goals for reading, and that is what an attacking midfielder is bought for, to chip in with 8-10 goals a season.well that's how I read it anyway

Decent player and good news for our future transfers as it shows a younger lad coming here for experience can then make the step up.
I'd worry for his future as a championship player as he doesn't score, hasn't really got a long pass, and isn't the best defensively.
He's definitely got a good engine, and at our level that covers a multitude of sins, but he needs to kick on a level to be a championship player. It'll be a very interesting one to watch.

Echo the thoughts of others. In his purple patches - the one in November time and also around the Liverpool game - he was exceptional, and his ball-carrying skills were one of the few attacking highlights to our game. However, when he was poor he was woeful, and if he isn’t driving with the ball I think he offers little. Good luck to him, though.

Exceptional against Liverpool and a magnificent engine but he will really need to work on his finishing. On the whole, this was woeful. His shocking wastefulness against Tranmere at home, for example, being a case in point.

Think Charlie Adam is leaving Reading as he hasn't had his contract renewed. One more potential place for Laurent to aim for

We talk about his inconsistency and purple patches but that was our whole team this season, that wasn’t just Laurent, every player could possibly be labelled that. When we were good he was the driving force a lot of the time. I honestly don’t think we appreciate his other attributes if you say he’s just a driver with the ball (which by the way is a huge attribute), his work rate, off the ball, when we were far too defensive was very good opponents. I’m sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but didn’t he get the most MOTM performance, sounds consistent to me. He also won Away Supporters Player of the Year, came 2nd to Pierre in Fans Player of the Year and won Players’ Player of the Year (they must have thought he did ok) and he was instrumental in giving us a day out at Anfield. Apparently Stoke, Cardiff, Swansea and Reading have all been linked with him. Sounds like a pretty decent season to me. Cutting it in the Championship, we will all have to wait and see, but I have seen many players come down from the Championship into L1 and don’t shine. Do we think that the gap between the Championship and L1 is that big. I personally don’t. He has every attribute to do well at that level. He deserves to be given the opportunity, I hope he takes it. For me he will be missed.

Mixed feelings, on a par with Nolan on his day, but Nolan showed a lot more consistency. Our current options in central midfield look a lot more vanilla for his departure, though.
Still, good luck owd lad and thank you for some cracking cup memories!

For me he will be missed. Yep, I forgot to mention his work rate. I don’t think he could ever be accused for a lack of trying in all fairness to him - just that he’s not the most technically-gifted player in terms of carving teams open with his passing or vision.

Our current options in central midfield look a lot more vanilla for his departure, though. Very true. Hopefully Sam has a similar type of player (or two) lined up because we definitely need more goals from midfield.

I do remember he started performing quite well in January , probably aware he had eyes on him, not sure if he will become a hit to not, I'd say he will just become another Ryan Woods and quietly plod on

Laurent has done well for us and done well by us. In the two years he's been with us he's improved. Should have scored more goals, I feel. But a good athlete. Championship will be a step up but he could make it if he continues to improve.

Our tactics may be improving as Sam grows in the job. Our coaching? Do we have in place as good as we had with Eric Ramsey? On the Mellon thread someone harks back to the days of Jacko training in the snow with Tom Bradshaw, Laurant might have benefitted from some time with Jackson had their timelines crossed?

Has the ability but was inconsistent.
His passing and shooting isn’t great but has a tremendous work rate and can really carry the ball.
Was with us for 2 years, had about a good 3 month patch and the rest was pretty average.
I’d like him to stay but he’s replaceable.

A nice lad and a good player in spite of the 'didnt fancy her anyway' style comments we'll be seeing on here now. You weren't wrong. I'm sorry he's going but of course he's replaceable. He strikes me as one of those players who might need to make the step up to get the best out of him. His passing and shooting weren't great for us but there are other midfield qualities Laurent has in abundance. Ryan Woods couldn't shoot and never scored but became a highly rated player at that level. It's a question of whether Laurent's strengths will fit with his future team and I'm sure they're far more aware of his strengths and weaknesses than we are. I don't know whether he'll establish himself as a Championship player but I think he has a better chance of doing so than Jon Nolan did. Thanks and good luck to him anyway. He was occasionally brilliant, generally decent and sometimes poor - which puts him upper mid-table in my list of Salop midfielders.

I rated him highly when I first saw him play for us on the first day of the season against Bradford two seasons back, even though he missed a sitter by smacking it against the bar in that very game.
Unfortunately probably a fitting summary of his footballing ability - can deceive you in to thinking he's a quality player but in reality he's just got good physical attributes and he's really not that good at the technical side of the game. Easily replaceable part of our team in my opinion. Nice guy though.
