On a positive note, I love having Sibley up there. He looks like a proper test opener. And yet some are being critical of his slow scoring, you just can't win. Twas ever thus! We've got enough players who score quickly in the side, our plodders of late have tended to be the limited players not really of test quality (Denly, Malan et al) contantly battling to stay in, so someone who has the patience to bat slow and do it well is a welcome change!

Overcast conditions for the first 3 days, Jimmy would be in his element. And the announcement “Jimmy Anderson will bowl from the James Anderson end” will be sadly missed.

Day 2. New ball was available from the start but WI have chosen to keep the old one .... now 90 overs old. Highlight of proceedings so far was Gabriel bowling his 2nd Harmison of the innings to Holder and 2nd slip.

Didn’t know much about Sibley but seems perfect contrast to the more one day approach of the middle order players.
Good to see proper attritional test match batting.
Stokes also maturing more and more into test match cricket.

Looking out of my window about 6 miles from Old Trafford the rain looks set in for the day. I’ll be surprised if there’s any cricket today.

Looking out of my window about 6 miles from Old Trafford the rain looks set in for the day. I’ll be surprised if there’s any cricket today. Fortunately, the weather forecast for both Sunday and Monday is very good, with virtually no chance of rain. So it looks like we've 2 days left to win the game.

Anyone watching the 3 team game from SA (Solidarity Cup) on the BBC red button/iplayer? 3 teams of 8 playing in one match ..... they had an attempt to explain it on TMS yesterday but it sounded complicated! One of the people who came up with the idea is Mark Nicholas.
from BBC website:
How does 3TeamCricket work? Here are some of the basic rules of 3TeamCricket:
1. A match between three teams with eight players each
2. 36 overs in two halves of 18 overs
3. One innings of 12 overs each per team
4. Bat and bowl to one opponent in each half for six overs
5. After seventh wicket the not-out batter stands alone
6. Maximum three overs per bowler to either opponent
7. The team with the most runs wins

Our local forecast says no rain today, but the clouds are low and dark right now.
Could be good for bowling if it stays dry.

I was of the understanding that spectators are NOT allowed at any sporting events !!!
Having seen photos of cricket being played at Henley cricket club over the w/e, WITH SPECTATORS, I was wondering if this doesn't apply to Shrewsbury, Oswestry et al recreational cricket matches !!!! Or are they old photographs that I saw ?
The Test could be a good finish, but England shouldn't lose it from here !!
