Staggering how noone is talking about the Archer story. Clearly too focussed on perfecting their scorecards from the first test.

He has broken the "bubble" and now has to self isolate for 5 days and take 2 covid tests before being allowed back with the squad.

Similar sort of day in Manchester today to the 1st day at Southampton. Overcast and light drizzle.
Why on earth hasn't Anderson now been added to the squad? Ideal conditions for him.
As it is, we'll be going into this Test with 3 new bowlers.
It seems to me we are not picking our best 11 (as was the case in Southampton) and using this series to experiment.

Overcast conditions for the first 3 days, Jimmy would be in his element.

Why even bother with reducing yourself to a squad of 13, when there’s 25 players based there.

Overcast conditions for the first 3 days, Jimmy would be in his element. Not selecting Broad, batting 1st in overcast conditions, not keeping the team together on the journey from Southampton to Manchester, resting Anderson in ideal bowling conditions, ignoring Foakes. The charge sheet is lengthening.

While the England & Wales Cricket Board initially refused to elaborate on what Archer did to breach the protocols, citing confidentiality, they subsequently confirmed that the 25-year-old Sussex player went home to his flat in Hove en route to Manchester – a clear breach of the bio-secure protocols.
To collect his spare toothbush perhaps? Or more likely to follow Professor Neil Ferguson's example.

I think it would be different as well if this series counted towards the test championship. I totally agree with your sentiments, this Windies side deserves respect.

I still think that Joe Root should relinquish the captaincy and just concentrate on his batting.
I was looking at his test match stats for the last 12 months and if you take out his big double hundred in Hamilton, his batting average is just over 32. What's frustrating is that he gets a start but then can't convert it into a big hundred, and this has certainly been true over the course of the winter.

On a positive note, I love having Sibley up there. He looks like a proper test opener.
