Disappointing end for Dom Sibley as well. Both opening batsmen will be kicking themselves, as will Joe Denly.

If Crawley gets any sort of score here, then Denly is surely out for the next test.
If he doesn't, then maybe both of them are out.

Will be interesting to see who gets the nod in the bowling department. Assuming they go with a Bess as spin option plenty of competition for pace bowling options Not confident with batting, feel there a few nice fifties but no confidence of anyone going big Unfortunately all too predictable Appreciate it’s been a long break but been this way for a while. The affect of one day cricket is really changing test matches. Not many batsmen left who just want to bat and bat long.

After that performance by Buttler, I'd be thinking of bringing in Foakes for the next game. He looked seriously out of form.
Crawley looks to have cemented his place though.

Buttler is a fantastic white ball cricketer without a doubt but Foakes is the better keeper and is a decent lower order batsman. Time for a change I think.

Foakes is slightly better than a useful lower order batsman!
Foakes. 1st class matches 109 172 28 5474 141* 38.01
Buttler 1st class matches 106 172 13 5108 144 32.12
Buttler has only managed one hundred in 75 Test innings. Foakes already has a Test hundred in only 10 innings. Plus Foakes is clearly the superior gloveman.

On a lighter note Athers on Sky got pranked yesterday reading out club cricket stories.

Anyone hear the archive View From the Boundary on TMS yesterday? A delight featuring the writer Ben Travers being interviewed by Brian Johnstone.
I missed the start of the feature but I guess it was mid 1970s. Travers remembered players from pre WW1, it was fascinating especially with the greatest ever cricket commentator, John Arlott, chipping in from the background.
It’s now on BBC Sounds if anyone is interested.

Bugger, if Crawley had got that cleanly that was a run-out opportunity (WI 88-3)
Finally ...
35.4 overs, Chase c Buttler b Archer 37 (WI 100-4)
Jimmy Anderson leaking a few runs to Blackwood 65* ... 62 to win
Tea 45 overs, WI 143-4 Blackwood 65* Dowrich 15* .... 57 win
telling stat England bowled 30 overs between maidens

Not looking good.
Decisions to bat 1st and omit Broad for Wood will no doubt be questioned.

Buttler dropping Blackwood off Stokes when he was only 20 certainly didn't help England's cause.
Blackwood gave a couple of other early chances too. Defending a low total, England just couldn't afford such lapses.

Some questionable decisions even before a ball was bowled. Why did England bat first in damp overcast conditions being the biggest one.
At the same time too many English batsmen got themselves out after getting set. Not one went onto 3 figures, very disappointing.

Not for me. Barstow a good white ball slogger, like Butler but neither as good as Foakes with gloves. Foakes a more than capable batsman as well.
