Sadly i dont think he will go.Never understood how bookies get their info on manergerial appiontments. The fact is bolton skint, under transfer embargo, hardly any players so need total rebuild, and need to fit into a coaching role rather than being a manager fully in control.Bolton have a new system theyre implamenting where tobias pheonix has a role,as yet a bit unclear, supposedly simillar to brentford model.I see them apoint from within or maybe nigel clough,no compo needed. With ricketts i dont ever see us going down, but progressing into promotion candidates never. But sod this little shrewsbury nonsense,as one of the most finantialy stable teams in the league surely in the right hands we can challenge.Look at what the guy we had before SR achieved,or should i say almost did.

These things are often shrouded in mystery but I wonder if Ricketts' agent is using the Bolton vacancy as an opportunity to improve his existing 2.5 year deal here or hammer out a new one? if his agent is any good, he'll be getting him a deal at bolton, lets face it any deal at bolton is better than a deal here, some of our fans dont deserve a decent manager, some of our fans are not happy unless we are losing

Bookies odds are worked out on potential losses, so if loads of bets go on any participant, the odds will tumble. The fact that he was a popular player at Bolton will encourage lots of fans to risk a tenner in the hope of him returning. Appointing a manager usually means appointing his back up staff as well as allowing him to bring in a couple of players from his previous club as well. Most of our players are contracted for another year so would not leave for free. Have Bolton suddenly become very wealthy?

My understanding is to make the price move as much as it did (down from 25/1) that it would have been a substantial amount of money placed on it not just the odd tenner by a bolton fan. We're talking thousands in a small period of time. No smoke without fire as they say...

We haven’t yet been in a stronger financial position than most of our League 1 rivals, not in football economics. We might have had a healthier balance sheet than Sunderland but they could still blow us away on the size of contracts they offered. Perhaps - and I’ll believe this when I see it - a new era of football economics will begin once we resume playing. But no recent Shrewsbury manager has ever seen that, so “this little Shrewsbury nonsense” isn’t nonsense until and unless that changes. Hurst (the guy 3 before Ricketts but never mind) had a one off season of relative success. We’ll never know whether he could have built on that, whether we’d have crashed back to the lower levels or something in between. It’s irrelevant, the here and now is what matters. Here and now we have a decent squad, a manager growing in experience (and confidence, I expect) and the possibility that we might have a more even competition in future. It would be a real setback if we had to throw most of that away and start again.

I can’t believe there’s a big betting market for next Bolton manager, in which case it wouldn’t take thousands to move the price of one candidate. I never pay much attention to bookies‘ odds on managers because those betting are generally as much in the dark as everyone else.

Apart from Nigel Clough I cant see that there is anyone out there better than what weve got. Ricketts is the first to admit he didnt always get it right in his first season but it was a massive step up from Wrexham so he needed a season to learn his trade. I would now expect him to move forward with us and have a solid season so a pity if we lost him.

Some fans don’t like listening to other fans that have a difference of opinion to them and just assume that we’re all wanting the team to lose so that we can have a good moan. Quite the opposite. I would love Ricketts to prove myself and many others wrong and get the play offs next year, but I just can’t see us going forward under him.
When I take a day and half from work and spend a fortune travelling down to Gillingham on a Wednesday night to witness no attacking intent is a disgrace in my eyes. I can take losing if we give it a good go, but the same happened when I went away to Doncaster on a Tuesday evening. We need a manager who is willing to play a winger on each wing who aren’t afraid of taking a defender on and whipping balls in. That’s what gets fans excited!!
The more I hear about Ian Evatt at Barrow, the more I like and would make a move for him. (Cue other posters coming to shoot me down for wanting somebody who’s inexperienced and telling me that I want STFC to fail).

Bolton already had a decent manager and number 2 in place and they dispensed with their services.
Bolton are skint, they are still under a transfer embargo for the next 12 months.
As a manager in employment would you risk leaving a financially sound club as ours for the uncertainty of a basement club?
If Sam's head is even slightly turned by this opportunity then the first thing he needs to do is ask Keith Hill why he left.

Just because I ground hop on the side, doesn’t mean I don’t watch Shrewsbury.

I don't question your credentials as a fan but I think you need to ratchet down your criticism. If you really think a poor midweek away performance is "a disgrace" you'll leave yourself struggling to find words to describe anything worse. Another disgrace, perhaps - it's a bit like crying wolf. As a fan, surely you know better than to think a poor away game is as bad as it gets? As for your managerial requirement - anyone who plays 4-4-2 is a low bar. Haven't you also witnessed many " disgraceful" performances from teams with wingers?

Am I alone in thinking the use of the term "Rickettsball" has become more tedious than the thing it seeks to ridicule? It’s incredibly childish. Unfortunately in this day and age short sound bites are what get the engagement and ‘likes’ rather than reasoned and logical debates.

Haven't you also witnessed many " disgraceful" performances from teams with wingers? There’s plenty of other formations that can involve wingers. Personally I’d play 4-3-3 with a CAM playing just behind the ST. Like I say, I can take losing, it’s the manner that we’re losing in that riles me. It’s not even the players sometimes, it’s the man in charge organising the tactics where we seem to have nobody in the box when we finally get the ball out wide in a crossing position. It’s not good to watch but before Pilch plays fan God, yes, I will continue to go and watch my hometown and local team.

4-4-2 is outdated nowadays, as much as I liked it when I played. Teams now overload midfield, so setting up with two central midfielders is inviting problems, especially since the majority of modern day wingers are not noted for their ball winning skills.

Promotion for Macclesfield on a very small budget... 1 place off play offs for Portvale and would have likely made the play offs with no losses in 6 on a very tight budget, not given a chance at Shrewsbury but equaled Ricketts performance based on th3 games he was here 👍

Am I alone in thinking the use of the term "Rickettsball" has become more tedious than the thing it seeks to ridicule? You are probably not alone. But you would also not be alone in using the words tedious and Ricketts in the same sentence. The most uninspiring manager in our history, ever. Tedious or otherwise, long-standing fans have an absolute right to speak openly In criticising a manager and his tactics that are actively stopping people bothering to go and support the team. If others of a different view to that are upset then so be it.

Really hate the whole “if you don’t like the manager you aren’t a really fan” stuff. We all want what is best for this football club and for some they believe it isn’t SR.
Fans are perfectly entitled to hold a different opinion than you without having their loyalty to this football club questioned. In fact if some fans believe that it’s better for the football club to have less fans who are pure sycophants than 8k attendances every week then they are just plain wrong.
I’ll be stood watching salop when SR is here, and I’ll be stood watching long after he’s gone. Managers and players will come and go, we’ll always be here.
