Johnson really doesn't think he's going to get away with that 2/3 minute statement about Cummings!

Boris defends the indefensible. Expect a change of mind in the next 72 hours.

Staggered school starts? Parents are going to spend most of the day going backwards and forwards to school.

The prime minister’s first reflex will be to try to brazen this out. He will be cross about the furious cyclone that is now raging around Mr Cummings, but he won’t be personally mortified that his chief adviser didn’t follow the government’s instructions. The prime minister’s own biography is littered with examples of a cavalier attitude towards norms of behaviour. Rules are for other people – not for Boris Johnson. That has been one of the guiding principles of a life not otherwise distinguished by many principles. His own biography is also rich with examples of blunders and scandals that he has survived simply by refusing to be shamed by them. So his first desire will be for the storm to blow itself out after 48 hours or so.

He said we must all abide by the guidelines, then he said it's ok to ignore the guidelines. I don't think he's thought this through.

Cummings must have some serious dirt on the PM for him to double down like he has. Can’t say I’m surprised but do believe they’ve made a very bad judgement call - the majority of the public are against this and I think you’ll start to see their support fade.

The newspapers have this story by the *alls, the TV people just haven't.
Boris is going to be skewered in tomorrow's papers.
Typical Boris bull.

Car crash for Johnson with next question. Didn't answer most of it.
Not allowing comebacks.

No, not a child care issue. Child care, not showing virus symptoms, could have come to him!

Does Boris really think that the public are that stupid ?....... Boris is in for a very big surprise if he does. Another U turn on the way, but waffling about has now seriously damaged him.

It’s disgraceful but at least we know who really runs the country now and nobody voted for him.

It's a bank holiday tomorrow, expect everyone will be doing exactly what they want and the answer to anyone who queries it will be "If it's ok for Cummings, it's ok for me".

Didn't answer the questions. Didn't allow any comebacks. Just over 30 minutes for the whole thing.
Taking the p**s out of us.

I see that Lucy Allen is saying that the politics around Coronavirus are vile. She maybe right, but is rich coming from someone who spread false information about Keir Starmer. If it’s vile she wants, she needs a mirror.

Delay school restart and ease lockdown will deflect story.... or will it Or the Cummings story is designed to rumble on, and deflect from schools, death rates etc ?

The UK Civil Service has issued a surprisingly honest and direct tweet following today’s Downing Street press briefing on the coronavirus crisis.
'Arrogant and offensive.
Can you imagine having to work with these truth twisters'?

the most shameless thing I have noticed during this is the way the media are swarming around him , with no respect or care to social distancing not sure about anyone else but I've not been outside for months other than briefly walking the dog near my house and if anyone one passes quite close to me something happens to make me feel uncomfortable , what the press are doing is a disgrace it certainly is one rule for one and one for another I know what you're getting at, but the way the government and their lackies are trying to defend the indefensible and are treating the beleaguered British people (who have, by and large, been very cooperative in adhering to the rules surrounding Covid-19) is way, WAY more shameless than the current actions of the media, IMO. As for ' it certainly is one rule for one and one for another' - I couldn't agree more! One rule for Johnson, Cumming, Ferguson, Prince of Wales, etc. and another for the have nots!

If Cummings is a man of integrity and since Boris has bottled sacking him, he will resign. So expect him to just cling on.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/may/24/dominic-cummings-elitism'The poison in Cummings’s journey to Durham is the taint of hypocrisy it injects into the public bloodstream at precisely the time when public confidence in the handling of the crisis is already beginning to fray. One rule for him, another for us. It’s an absolutely lethal tag for any government project, but it’s doubly, triply so in a pandemic. The arrogance and ineptitude are staggering'. 'Bad behaviour and rule-breaking have got Johnson a long way in life. This evening’s free pass to Cummings suggests there is to be no going back, no learning from mistakes, no attempt to grow wiser with new responsibilities. It is a reckless endorsement of an overmighty adviser, a snub to elected politicians on both sides of the Commons, a declaration of war against much of the press, a defiance of the institutional balances within Britain’s system of democratic government and a self-centred, self-indulgent signal to the public that the rules no longer really matter'.

I can imagine a desperate attempt to find CCTV footage of DC in Barnards Castle. If there is, BJ himself is in big trouble.

The public followed guidelines and didn't travel hundreds of miles to see their loved ones, some possibly for the last time. Cummimgs followed his instincts and travelled hundred of miles just to get a nanny.
Goodbye Cummings - after a slight delay while Boris faffs around.
