Great memories of Alfie. The 5 against Blackburn, 4 headers and a penalty in front of a mental station End. He was so closely marked at corners, one time I remember he started at the back post, ran behind the goal and headed in at the near post. Unfortunately ref disallowed it. An uncompromising centre half, I have a grim memory of him ending George Yardley's career with a horrendous tackle. RIP Alfie Whilst I too will remember his goals and all-action approach, that particular incident was horrifying and sours the memories... RIP, Alf

My first Town favourite, an absolute Legend. I will always fondly remember his 5 goals v Blackburn Rovers whilst I sat on the corner pylon between the Wakeman End and the Riverside, it was great vantage point to see his goals in that first half. RIP Alfie 😢

Unfortunately before my time, but the stories on here show him to be a true Shrewsbury Town legend. RIP.

We won the Premier League both years that he was there.

My first ever Shrewsbury match 5th April 1969, playing Swindon, I originally went just to see their winger, the great Don Rogers playing, the match finished 1 - 1 and the first ever Shrewsbury goal I celebrated, a headed equaliser by Alf Wood.

My first season at the "Meadow" was 1971/1972 when Alf was scoring for fun, wonderful memories, my Grandad, Dad & Myself & Dad's Brother. All the way through that side people you would never forget and I will be forever grateful to the "old chap" (who passed away 4 years tomorrow) for introducing me to STFC, and Messrs. Mulhearn, Brown, Fellows, Holton, Dolby, Mathias, Bridgwood, Groves, Roberts, Wood, McLaughlin, Moir (R), Andrews, Moore................
