I had a nice beer with old friends via Google Meet the other day - three in UK, one in Sweden, and me in Japan. Was really fun. One of the nice sides of these lockdowns is that many people have the time to catch up with mates or family they haven't been in touch with much recently.

I'd be happy to do so. But surely all cask beer is long past its shelf life by now!

I'd be happy to do so. But surely all cask beer is long past its shelf life by now! I would think so too. I opened a 2 litre bottle of Monty's Ding Dong on Saturday. It was a present for my son some Christmases ago and had a best before date of October 2016. He never got round to drinking it and wasn't keen to do so now. It was a really nice golden ale - and on Sunday when I drank some more. However, the last glass had turned distinctly brown and cloudy when I poured it yesterday, so I didn't try that. I dare say it might have been better by October 2016 but it was very enjoyable 3.5 years later!

Right, and once that's achieved, everything will be back to normal. Stop scaremongering. You clearly haven't thought through how we are all supposed to get through the period up to when the population has been vaccinated. Thats assuming a vaccine can be found. 5 months on from this thread when I was accused of scaremongering, we still cannot see a definite way out of the current situation. Vaccine stiĺl a long way off and the Boris "moonshot " at present pie in the sky. Far from scaremongering it was probably an under estimate of just how serious the situation is.

If we were still in national lockdown with severe restrictions on movement I would agree with you. But, we aren't. The main differences at the moment are face masks and the numbers of people in pubs and restaurants. Plus a heightened awareness of personal hygiene, which is a plus.

Ok but position is far from back to normal. Certainly wasn't scaremongering at the time, just an awareness of the reality of the situation.

You we're guessing, just like anyone really aside from experts. Hardly anybody is dying now, the numbers are very low. Continuing to distance and wear masks will help. What really gets to me and did a long time before all this is people's personal hygiene. It's really not difficult to shower a minimum of once a day, use deodorant and wash your hands frequently. I'd say a minimum of half the people leaving pub/restaurant toilets simply don't wash their hands in my experience.

Sure, I get that, but it really isn't as bad as people thought it was. And at the time the reality was very apparent, it was just how long before we get back to normal, which we will. Until the next pandemic....

I know we're a tourist town, but our pubs are thriving. A couple of the smaller venues have struggled to open due to their size, but the last to open is starting again this week. The only Juan we've lost for now, is because the couple running it have used it as a weapon to bar people they fell out with, (and there's plenty of those!). They've applied for housing on the site, but had their application kicked out, now they've appealed. There is plenty of interest in buying the pub, but they won't sell.
So if there's been a dramatic closure of pubs I've missed it.

I have a number of health problems so no just not worth it for me, having a pint is not worth getting seriously ill or dying I think that's how the next few months will pan out too. Those to vuberable to go out won't, equally though they should distance from their kids/grandkids if they're going out a lot, just to be extra sure. It's all common sense, it's just a shame a portion of the country is devoid of any.

The under 50's going out show unless they have long term health problem they are low risk of compliactions and the mortality rate is low.what does annoy me is the % who behave in an iresponsible way and go out even with covid-19 symptoms and dont seem to care who they infect. i do go out but i behave in a prudent way to minmize my chances of getting infected but we cant live in a bubble and have to try and live as normally as you can in this surreal world.

I have a number of health problems so no just not worth it for me, having a pint is not worth getting seriously ill or dying i've been going about once a week for about a month , i agree what you say but my missus is a care worker and has havdcovid cases in her home, many deaths too but nothing ever 19 confirmed, all this includes giving recussitation and dealing with the dead bodies after, im more likely to catch covid from her or die from boredom so once a week to the pub with half a dozen mates for a quiet drink is a risk ive enjoyed
