with so much sad news i thought i would share two upbeat stories, whilst i apreciate a church bell ringing is not evryones cup of tea, i find it comferting and somthing that has been part of the british landscape, i thought it was a lovely to hear that hte company who cast the bell are still amazingly in business and repaired it. www.shropshirestar.com/news/local-hubs/shrewsbury/2020/04/04/cathedral-bell-can-ring-out-over-shrewsbury-again-with-video/It hasn't been rung in almost 50 years, but the bellowing chimes of Shrewsbury Cathedral's bell can now be heard across the town centre once again" also this wonderfull discovery www.shropshirestar.com/entertainment/attractions/2020/03/09/staff-floored-by-stunning-hidden-artwork-in-shrewsbury-cathedral/An ongoing project to restore the building to its former glory uncovered the impressive gothic work of famous architect Edward Welby Pugin buried beneath a suspended wooden floor. The tiles may have been covered in dust and dirt from being undercover since 1984, but their beauty remains in the mesmerising symmetrical designs. Fortunately, the mosaics remain in pretty good nick despite being hidden away for more than three decades, with only a few cracks stopping them from being impeccably preserved."

Thanks for the links zen, seeing that floor me back almost 60 years to when I was an alter server at the Cathedral.
I have memories of the priests at the time who I admired very much. In particular Father Dunphy who used to study the Racing Post before mass and ask my opinion on his selections, I had no interest in horse racing!
