Hi All Just thought that I would start a light hearted thread in these difficult times. An opportunity to purge your soul,it could be that you where brought up in the area, or a job etc had taken you to the area. Time to confess

For the 3 years I was at Uni in Bristol, I did watch a few of Bristol Rovers games at Eastville.
Warboys and Bannister (Smash and Grab).

Was watching Salop home and away at the time

Yeah, was £3 to watch Sheffield Utd in the mid to late 90's when I was a student there so went fairly regularly.
My wife and son have Ipswich season tickets so go to Portman Road fairly often too, for example when my wife can't go, which is a few times a season.

have never watched a premier league game, have never watched an international game, only been to Wembley twice, both times to see the town
not really bothered about towns league position, if you support a side that shouldn't really matter
wins are just a bonus

Been about 10 times to the new ground and even the good games arent enough to make me want to come back regularly tbh. As for modern football i rarely watch any other games on TV, ive lost so much interest in anything other than my own club Town.

I've always loved to groundhop but only started to regularly do it since Ricketts has been at the club because whether people agree with me or not I just don't enjoy watching negative tactics for £20.
Been all over these past 18 months, here's just some which don't involve Salop:- Kidderminster vs Bristol Rovers Plymouth vs Cheltenham Notts County vs Eastleigh Crewe vs Yeovil Redditch vs Tamworth Macclesfield vs Mansfield York vs Kings Lynn Port Vale vs Northampton Wrexham vs Stoke Telford vs Darlington Tamworth vs Nuneaton Hereford vs Kidderminster Manchester United vs Watford Wrexham vs Barrow Crewe vs Port Vale There's many, many more.
Since doing this, we were due to play Burton Albion (think it was) at home. I was frustrated with the football on offer so voted with my feet and decided not to attend that day and instead groundhop somewhere. As I looked down the fixture list, a derby day stood out to me. It was Tamworth vs Stourbridge. This particular fixture caught my eye as Tamworth was my first ever league away match that my old man took me to back in the Conference season... and I always wanted to go back one day.
So, I turned up at Shrewsbury train station on the Saturday morning and booked a return ticket to Tamworth for as little as £17, got myself a few beers for the train and off I went. Rolled into Tamworth at midday and made my way into the town centre (5 minute walk) to sample a few pubs. Started talking to a few of the locals who were Tamworth supporters and they noticed that I had my Shrewsbury hoodie on. They asked what I was doing in Tamworth etc and I explained and next thing I know they've invited me to join them on their table just away from the bar.
A fair few of them recalled playing us back in 03-04 and said that we were a massive club to get relegated out the league at the time and we just talked genuine football. I've had people approach me and chat with me at groundhopping days before, but nothing like this. Such a genuine nice bunch of fans and when I explained that the Lamb was my first ever away day, they loved my story. Ever since then, I've adopted Tamworth to be my second club. Obviously it's not my home town team who I grew up watching which is Salop, but there are things I love which you don't get at the Meadow.
Train station is in close proximity to the town centre which has a range of good pubs and bars, 10 minute walk from the football stadium, you can have a pint for £3 and watch the football whilst you enjoy it, and you just feel more apart of the club as I tend to stand behind the away dugout which is where the more vocal fans stand where you can hear everything the managers say and banter with the away players/staff.
I tend to go to Shrewsbury games more when we're playing away from home these days as I find the whole day out more fun than a home game.
Think this is an enjoyable thread and wanted to share my story, hopefully nobody jumps on me for it 👍

Nicely laid out town Tamworth, at least now the A5 has a bypass. A couple of years ago I was working there every Saturday afternoon, racing back to the car and on with Radio Shropshire to catch the match, reception used to be very hit and miss until the other side of Lichfield.

Mostly when Town were away, i still went to the home games. Finished the 92 when Town played at Manor Ground, Oxford in 85. Then as Town played these clubs i went again. I think i ended up seeing Town on 83 of the 92 as it was then. As i lost a bit of intetest ive not kept it up and think ive seen Town on only about 65 of the current grounds, and a lot of them are unrecognisable from when i went. Its good going to other grounds as well.

I also went to watch the Blades a fair bit when I was at Sheff uni (91-94), especially as I lived in Sharrow in 2nd and 3rd year. Wasn't as cheap as £3 then though unfortunately. Highlight was seeing the Sheffield derby. Was electric. I also went to watch Wednesday several times including a European game v Kaiserslautern, and went in the away end at Sheffield United to support Spurs. So I was quite a turncoat

Ran a pub in Manchester in the early 80’s and used to go with regulars to watch Man City standing on the Kipax ..... Even arranged a coach when they played Shrewsbury away and went in the away end Its reminded me that when we arrived in Shrewsbury we wanted a pub and one of the lads suggested The Exchange as he heard Ken Mulhearn ran it. I didn’t think we stood a chance of arriving in a coach and getting in. I was wrong. We arrived outside and a few of the guys went up to to the door to be immediately turned away, in fact the doors were shut. After much debate with the bouncers on the door Ken arrived to greet our motley crew like they were long lost brothers..... We were allowed in stayed until 15 mins before kick off then back on the coach to get a police escort to the ground....

My memories of Tamworth go back to my trainspotting days of the early 60's. Steam trains of course. Two lines cross there, and amazingly it was quite easy to be able to get right next to the tracks to have a close view of the locomotives passing at speed. I can also vaguely recall a cafe where they had a machine with a clock face, which paid out a jackpot of pennies if I managed to spin the hands round to 12 o'clock.

Went regularly to Wolves in the late 1960s when Salop were away. Players the likes of Mike Bailey and Dave Wagstaff. The highlight was always the visits of Man United with Best, Charlton and Law playing, you had to get there before 2 as the ground was full by then (think around 55,000 capacity). I spent most of the 1970s living in Colchester and was a regular at Layer Road with Jim Smith as their manager for some of that time and players such as Mike Walker, Ian Allinson and Bobby Gough. Also had a season ticket to London then so I would regularly go to Wembley for the England games with Kevin Keegan in his pomp and also any Liverpool game in London as my best mate then was a Scouser.Lived in Manchester for over a decade from the mid 80s and was an occasional visitor to Maine Road (especially when Peter Reid was the manager) with players like Keith Curle and my favourite David White (one of the fastest players I have ever seen). None of it compares to watching Town but it was often an enjoyable substitute activity.

Like several others I was a regular at Wolves, mid 1950s to mid 1960s in my case. Generally the fixtures were arranged so that they were at home when we were away, so we didn’t miss Town home games.
In those days there was no football on TV, so if you wanted to see top teams and players you had to go to live games. So I got to see the likes of Matthews, Finney, Lofthouse, Charlton, the peerless Peter Broadbent and the great Spurs Double side.
Later, when in the RAF near Cheltenham, I had a friend who was a Swindon fan and we went to their evening games. They had an outstanding team that starred Don Rodgers and won the League Cup while playing (I think) in the 3rd tier.

When I lived in various parts of Scotland I regularly watched Aberdeen, Peterhead, Inverness Caly and Thistle and then ICT.
When I lived down south I was a regular at Basingstoke Town (played in blue and yellow stripes) and Salisbury City.

Hi All Just thought that I would start a light hearted thread in these difficult times. An opportunity to purge your soul,it could be that you where brought up in the area, or a job etc had taken you to the area. Time to confess No confession, as I've mentioned it before, but I had to regularly put up with trips to Molineux with my Uncle and Nan as a kid (both devout followers of the Old Gold and Black), and I had a season ticket for a couple of seasons of dross there as a teenager - until I was shown the light and taken along to Gay Meadow in 2005 Also, when I was a student in Manchester (2008-11), I'd come down to watch Town when I could afford to, but I got myself an evening/weekend job working at Manchester City (at the stadium) and was lucky (?!) enough to be given free tickets in to watch whichever game was being played once my duties had been finished - usually got to see the last 20 mins of the first half, and the first 25 mins of the second half!

As a Police Officer in the late sixties and seventies I was stationed at Smethwick and we covered all the West Brom matches. I was always stuck in the middle of the home fans. Lost count of the number of helmets I had knocked off and nicked when the Albion scored. It was the great days of Astle, Brown, Cantwell and Asa Hartford so there were lots of goals. Alan Ashman was the first manager there when I started going and I remember him getting a towel from the dugout at the end of one match to wipe the spit off my back as I walked along the touchline.

In my late teens, early twenties I went to 90+ games a season. All town's home matches, some away, plenty of Telford games ( I lived there), some Wolves. Crewe was a favourite owing to the wonderful pies. I fell in love with the Swindon team mentioned above and saw all their league cup games including Wembley. Bobby Gould cried just 20 yards from me! Easter was good, loads of games. If you were organised you could do 3 games in a day. I remember doing Walsall, Birmingham and Town in a day I moved to Yorkshire in 1971 and discovered girls at the same time. But I continued watch Town when I could and have seen them all over Yorkshire.

The only non Town games I've watched in 50 odd years would have been my local village team in the Mid Wales League. When I worked in Aberystwyth I also used to go and watch them play if they had a mid week game.
