Old style mini, late 70s (thought it was early 80s when i owned it). Handled great, never had to brake going round bends, just hold the throttle steady and it held the road brilliant.
Mid 2000s had Fiat Multipla. They were very much a marmite sort of thing, you either hated them (because of the look) or loved them because they were a great drive and very roomy inside.
Worst - the only car i ever had from new A roen Piccaso. Awful drive and regularly used to be in for repair. Bloody awful thing.

Love this one. First car a 1960's mini, purchased on the back of a win on a fruit machine, I know you can't make it up. VW beetle old style amazing but smelly heater. MK 2 ford escort, great heater!!! Mini with a Austin 1300 engine, up Harley bank in top gear and still accelerating. Last 5 years Audi A6 best car I have had, and I have had many many cars over the years, but as I get older they are just tools to get you from a to b and don't mean too much anymore. Love automatics and would be first in the queue for a self driving car.

1968 Ford Cortina Mk II 1600 GT. I remember overtaking a XR2 Mk 1 like he was standing still!!!!!! My fust car was a Ford Popular. 5737 DA. I remember passing a snail, but the ****er caught me up and passed me back. £45 quid if my memory serves me correct. I took my girlfriend at the time up to the welsh coast in it on a weekend camping holiday. When we got there it was dark, so I just pitched up the tent in a field. We had camp beds, and the next morning, feeling a bit frisky, I reached over for her, only to find she was a health freak who'd got up at 6'o'clock and buggered off walking. When I staggered out of the tent, I hit my yed on a "No Camping" sign. All the way there, the Juan tyre made a bumping noise because of a bulge in the tread. It did the same on the way back, but didn't burst until I was pulling up outside the hovel I called home at the time. The engine also made a knocking sound and clouds of smoke used to pour out under the dashboard in protest. if you went really fast. (I'm talking between 40 and 50 here), the wipers went slower. Any road up, I eventually retired it to the big scrapyard in the sky, (or so I thought), and I swear on my mothers grave this is true, I was walking to the local corner shop when I heard a familiar knocking noise in the road, and there going past me with a family inside, was 5737 DA.......

The first car I drove, rather than owned. My parents' Renault 5 GTX. It was basically a model made to get around the massive insurance costs of the crash and joy-ride prone hot-hatches of the day. No i badging, no wings or aero parts, no turbo, just a punchy 1.7 litre engine in a very light car (virtually made of tinfoil). Really sporty set up - stiff ride, very direct steering and firm pedals with short travel. Not quite such a go kart like experience as an original mini cooper, but pretty near. It was fun and exciting to drive and went like a stabbed rat despite its humble appearance.

My 1st car. Austin A35. Manual choke, crank handle and no washers. But ultra reliable.
Favourite car - Mitsubishi 1.5 Turbo hatchback. Great acceleration when passing cyclists, tractors, horseboxes and caravans!

Fave - Audi RS4 - lovely car to be in & did anything you asked of it; drank petrol though
Worst - Austin Allegro mk3 1.3L - spongy, slow and fell apart - never had an English car since
Best - BMW 530d estate - comfy, quick and never a problem - always does more than 30mpg; more than 40mpg on a motorway trip

That was it for me re UK cars. Ever since, I have purchased a number of Mitsubishis. The Allegro has to be up there as one of the worst cars ever made.

My first car was an early 1950s Morris Minor, the split windscreen type. I bought it in ‘67 for £30 off an RAF friend. He was an engineer so the car was mechanically good, although I once had brake failure at midnight when driving from Shrewsbury to where I was stationed near Cheltenham. Did the journey very slowly using handbrake only.
The bodywork wasn’t too good, when the driver’s side floormat was removed I could see the road through a crack in the floor pan.Despite this I did some mileage in this car as I had a girlfriend in Bournemouth and played Sunday League in Shrewsbury, so there were some long weekend drives. I had the car a couple of years before I was posted overseas and sold it to a mate.
I’m pleased to see Grizzly mention the Fiat Multipla, I also had the original ‘squashed frog’ version and it’s my favourite car. Practical and comfy. I used to need the 6 seats to transport my daughter and grandchildren at weekends, but when it was just me, MrsST and No.2 daughter holidaying in France the 3 of us sat in a row in the front and we removed the rear seats to make huge capacity to bring beer, wine and other things that were cheaper in France home.

I had the misfortune of having a Montego for a few weeks and have never experienced anything as bad as that car since. It seemed to bend in the middle if you went over any undulating roads, and the steering, it looked like I was drunk. No wonder they went bust.

A VW Scirocco was probably my favourite for having the time in my 80s youth to drive it for fun, too many miles whilst working nowadays. Having a company vehicle did allow me an Audi A3 2 litre petrol though which was comfortably the fastest car I’ve had but had to go when I realised a 3 door car and a child seat were a complete non starter 😂

1994 mk6 Ford Escort. Loved it. Loads of space, decent acceleration and cheap as chips to run.
Had a Seat Leon Cupra - that had some kick for a family looking car!

in the 70's i had a russian Lada estate , when i drove it at night the various fuse bulbs would light up like a christmas tree. i also could not lock the pasenger door so i would put my dog lead through it to the steering column. i know they had a bad reputation but the one i had was very reliable.
i used to live in the middle of nowhere and owned a very early robin reliant it looked like it had fins down the front and no it never tipped over.

The car I was most chuffed with was one I didnt actually own. It was a Morris traveller Police Panda car and I was one of the first Police Officers out on the road in the West Midlands. It was a 6am - 2pm shift on a very cold winters morning. I was very proud driving out of the Smethwick Police car park in the late 1960s. At 6.30am I was sent to an alarm at a Radio Rentals High Street showroom. As I approached it I hit the brakes, skidded on some ice and went through the showroom front window. It was a false alarm and not so proud to say I was the first Police Officer in the West Midlands to be banned from driving Police vehicles for six months. Still my fav car even though I only drove it for half an hour.

An aside to my Multipla story, it was a company car. We were allowed a free choice of cars up to a set value, most of my colleagues went for BMWs or Audi’s so I got some stick in the office car park.
I’ve never been a petrol head or into brands and to prove it my next company car was a Skoda Octavia. I’ve driven Octavias ever since.

Be careful about calling the squashed frog version of the Fiat Multipla the original version.

i've driven loads of cars over the years including Merc's BMW's and Jags
However my favourite of all was in 1990, when i picked up a new Ford Sierra Sapphire Ghia in white
This car had everything including a heated front windscreen (in 1990!)
The only bad bit of luck i had, was that the wheels got knicked off it, while it was on my front drive overnight, and it took Furrows about 3 days to get a replacement set of the Ford "moon" wheels
It was a Company car so it eventually was replaced, but wish i had of kept it really

When I first passed my test (1st time 😇) I used to borrow my dads Humber Super Snipe Estate... it was enormous, you could easily get 4 in the front (bench seat) 5 in the back and 6 in the rear! Reg was LTV 906 so late 50’s maybe 60..... I then went on to own many cars I’ll see if I can remember them all
1st A reg Mini Cooper 998 (finally seized our on A5) 2nd Vauxhal Victor Automatic (turned over on the bends just passed Iron Bridge turn) 3rd Mk 1 Escort (Red) Turned over in back lanes between Shrewsbury and Pulverbatch) 4th Mini 850 1960 Drove to SW France, brake pipes went in Rouen on way home but drove back till sub frame collapsed in Atcham 5th Mini 1000 (RUX 101H) Hit Heathgates Island when it had a low wall round it 6th Mini 1275 GT traded in for...... 7th Morris Marina 1.8TC (WORST CAR) couldn’t drive it in a straight line traded in for..... 8th Austin Allegro 1.5 I actually liked it so much I traded it in for a NEW (only one ever).... 9th Austin Allegro 1.5 (HX?) sold it to a work colleague 10th MGB GT (L reg) sold it when first child born to buy...... 11th Volvo 245 in Orange.... Sold it to buy 12th Citroen BX loved it but sold it to buy 13th Mitsubishi Estate can’t remember model sold it to buy 14th Ford Safire 2.0 TDI (timing belt went but repaired for £400) sold it for 1st Company Car 15th Ford Mondeo changed after 3 years to 16th Renault Laguna changed after 3 years to 17th Renault Laguna hanged after 3 years for 18th Audi A3 2.0 TDI with sport pack (One of the best cars) changed company 19th Toyota Corolla 2.0 Estate.... very rugged and drove well but a bit boring) made redundant 20th Volvo Estate good car but upgrade to 21st Volvo XC70 loved it but a bit thirsty expensive repair needed in gear box so sold it to get company car 22nd Seat Leon 2.0 sport...... did the job but a bit small for 5 to footy... gave up on company car to get 23rd Skoda Superb 2.0 SE (current and best for a 66 year old but was considering trading up for Skoda Superb 4x4
