A shocking decision to end the season and call it void now. Look at Nantwich Town for example, up at the right end of the table with a chance of promotion. There's a big difference in revenue for a club like them to either get the chance to play Chester, Kidderminster, Telford, York, potentially a Chesterfield or Wrexham all who would take a much bigger following should they get promoted than the likes of Grantham, Mickleover and Bamber Bridge.
This decision will not only finish the season, but also finish clubs aswell. Common sense needs to prevail!

There's still games to play, just play them whenever it is safe to do so.

Vauxhall have already gained promotion with seven games to go but now that's voided. The chairman of South Shields who are top has taken to Twitter to say he's taking legal action. I know Tamworth are thinking of taking legal action as they're another club in a long list of others who aren't best pleased.
What an horrendous decision this could turn out to be.

just found this on your tube You do know Liverpool will still win the league though, right? The decision to null and void the season are only in leagues under the National league N/S. The EFL will continue to play out the season I believe as teams like Liverpool, Leeds, Wolves (going for Europe) have far too much money to throw at lawyers and legal action otherwise.

I despise Liverpool FC just as much as the next man, but this isn't just about Liverpool. By finishing the season would kill numerous non league clubs and it's disgusting to think that all their hard work and efforts are worthless in the end. Just scrolled through Twitter and haven't seen a single one person on the non league threads saying that this was a good idea. Hundreds (even fans of teams in the relegation spots) are saying they season MUST finish. I really don't understand people's view point otherwise unless it mean that 'LiVeRpOoL WoN't WiN ThE LeAgUe'

We are in the middle of World War 3. Thousands of people are dying. Sport comes second. Why so long to cancel the Olympics. Why isnt Wimbledon being cancelled now. Money thats why. Football clubs talking about law suits. Money, money money. Stay at home, support the NHS and lets all get safely through this and enjoy planning sport again in the not too distant future.

Having just moved to Worthing, I was looking forward to their promotion to National League South as they were about 6 points clear and averaging about 1,000 each home game.

If they decided to finish the season then possibly all of the matches would have to be played behind closed doors, as social distancing may be with us for some time yet, so who knows when that would be, August, September? . Which then would mean no further income for the clubs, also there are the health issues, who knows when this virus is going to recede to the point where physical contact sports can be played safely. I imagine these decisions have been made with more information available than we have access to, and agree with another poster, health takes precedence over money and emotion every time. Unfortunately a decision that someone has to make which would obviously be divided, and you haven't won anything until the competition is completed. If we were 1 point behind 2nd spot (unlikely I know) with 8 or so games left and they promoted that team after ending the season early, then I'm not sure how many on here and elsewhere would be saying "well done they deserved it".

The absolute best that the sport can hope for is to be able to play some football in about 5-6 months. Even that might be too soon if significant proportions of the personnel involved still haven't had the virus by then ( therefore likely to drop out, for weeks, at any given moment, possibly all at once - remember its vastly more people than just the players needed to get an EFL football match on, even behind closed doors )
It is the 2019-20 competition that was started........so as long as it finishes sometime in 2020, that still applies.
20-21 season will need to be shortened, half the number of games being the obvious fit. Would this make for a more exciting season? Probably. Lots of extra grumbling from fans even on exactly who they draw at home and away, instead of remembering that mid-season positions are often about where teams end up anyway, guaranteed!
So here's a plan, Stan.
Coronavirus antibody screening in July. Pre- (rest of the )season training august. Remaining 2019-20 season games and cup ties played out Sept /Oct. Finals and play-offs, Nov. Mid (season )break, early Dec. 20-21 shortened season starts mid Dec with huge fanfare, by when, hopefully, most of the supporters are also back having also been screened. Noddy cups canned for one season in order to finish in May as usual.
Club finances and budgeting will need to be sorted once and for all by the EFL and govt - this is also the clear opportunity to do that.

and presumably extend everyone contract too and make they stay at their current clubs ? or the clubs with money on the brink of promotion or relegation can strengthen their sides knowing it will pay off scr@p it all simple as some gain , some lose, some cry life a b***h perhaps double relegation and promotion spots next season to compensate and liven up the leagues

On the face of it a good plan, but the virologists tell us that there will be a second Covid wave next winter, probably worse than this one as the virus mutates. It would be better to cancel this season now, extend anyone whose contract expires this summer for a further year and have no transfer window. Loans would continue, at least for six months. 20-21 then starts as soon as is practicable and safe, behind closed doors if necessary, with all teams in their current leagues. If next season also gets curtailed, then I like Pilch's idea of doubling promotion and relegation places. I'd say it's already a waste of time trying to rescue this season on the basis that we hope the virus has died away by July.

If it gets scrapped then champions/promotions/relegations HAVE to be the clubs in those positions as at close of play.
Not ideal at all but to do anything else would be a complete farce (and become a legal minefield).

I imagine Jersey Bulls not too happy either. It's their first season at step 6 and they have a 100% league record and already gained promotion.
While there was no realistic chance to actually finish the season an option would have been to use PPG (points per game) to decide the leagues to allow some sort of promotion/relegation to take place. PPG was used for play-offs last season and is used to decide FA Cup qualification for the following season.
While not perfect it would at least allow some sort of resolution. Obviously not going to be possible to do the major reorganisation planned at the end of the season and also what will happen to the new Bury club (and others) that had applied for next season?
While in the grand scheme of things this is unimportant it's at least something to distract us from what's going on.
A few posts added since I started that post but some decisions will have to be made eventually as I can't see football at any level resuming anytime soon.

Let's be honest here, world wide we are not going to be in a position to be playing any sort of professional football until July (if we're lucky). We should continue this season about October time and structure the fixtures to finish about Christmas. We then right off the 20/21 season and start the 21/22 season that August. You can't right off what's just happened and start again, as that's just ridiculous. It's a big hit for every club, but after this a total restructuring of the way clubs should be FORCED into being run. For instance apparently the championship has on average spent 107% of its income on wages this season. This can't continue and things have to change.

Not sure why alot on here want the season to continue when they have spent the majority of it moaning like f##k how bad and boring it is. It's just a long shot but maybe some aren't happy unless there is nothing to moan about.

TBH don't think we'll get this season finished and really not sure we'll be playing football come August either.

Next season wont start at all due to all thw legal battles. And i guess you wont have any clubs taking part in European competitions at all? Just taking a quick look through all the tables from the Premier league right down to National leagues north and south. If the season was ended right now and each team was adjusted points per game played guess what, it would make no difference at all to the top clubs looking for promotion or bottom clubs in the relegation battle. The clubs in the promotion places get promoted, the clubs in the relegation places go down, the clubs in the European qualifying places get to play in Europe next season. A club can always argue that they could (might) have done well over the last remaining games but that is tough, they havnt by the time the halt was called in very exceptional circumstances and we will never know. That being the case im more inclined to suggest that we end the season right now and usual promotion / relegation takes place in all leagues as usual. With regards to the play offs - this season they get scrapped and the team currently in the highest play off place gets the promotion. Then we can start to form a contingency plan as to what to do if next season cant kick off in August. Only down side that i can see is that Wrexham survive by the skin of their teeth......🤐
