Good thread, that. Better than the Liverpool one, which was too often patronising and full of prima donna big club fans. And great post on there (p3) from suffolkshrew, who summed it up really well. Good work. I loved a comment after the Guardian's match report: " Games like this are why the FA Cup and League Cup are so important to the game. Football is not about the top 2/4/8 or whatever teams, it's about all the professional and amateur teams and the fans and supporters who keep these community clubs alive. I couldn't give a s**t if a "top" team's schedule is busy - they are rich beyond the likes of Shrewsbury's wildest dreams and have a responsibility to the wider community of football clubs and their legion of fans. This sport is for all of us, not just the elite and wealthy (and I say this a Spurs fan).
Well done Shrewsbury and the FA Cup."
Great words, couldn't agree more.

Hehe, thanks, I'm Suffolkshrew, signed up when we played them but not seen fit to post anything but like you I found that thread a really good read - mostly there's a lot of solidarity between lower league fans, banter aside, and it really shone through in that thread.

Yep, I know some think it's soppy to praise a rival but I liked reading a Gas fan saying we'd done League 1 proud. We have a lot in common with each other and should never forget it - except when we're going head to head, of course. Last night really brought home to me how close a club and its community can be. Too many fans of the biggest clubs have lost sight of that, or were never aware of it - I don't know which is worse. They can mock us celebrating a draw against a less than full strength Liverpool, they can tie themselves in knots trying to explain away (mainly to themselves) why it doesn't matter to them, they can dismiss the FA Cup in their list of priorities, they can blather on about how VAR would have meant they didn't get the wrong end of the ref's decisions (even though they didn't anyway), they can big up how they're going to smash us next time ………. but in a way I feel sorry for them. They'll never know what a match and a result like yesterday's means to a fan of a club like ours. And they can never take that away from us. We might never experience our team winning the biggest prizes but it's not just about that. And they just don't get that at all. I may be a relative newbie (given my age!) but I bloody love this club and this town.

I may be a relative newbie (given my age!) but I bloody love this club and this town. Yup, well said. Those that crow about glory and winning, as if that's the be all and end all, simply don't get it, and they never will. So long as Shrewbsury continue to exist as a club then my life will be fulfilled. I didn't get home to Suffolk until almost 23:00 last night but was still absolutely buzzing - I ended up watching the build up, half time and the entire spine tingling 2nd half before going to bed the wrong side of 02:00 and being in work for 08:00. But, and while I'm excited about the reply, I'm actually also excited about being at Gillingham on Wednesday. When you have that sense of anticipation and togetherness and community, plus the sense of belonging, the result actually, at the end of the day, doesn't really matter. That said, when it all comes together as it did so magnificently last night it transcends pretty much everything - I can think of only a handful of occasions in 31 years of following this team when I've felt like that - Exeter 2000, Everton 2003, Arsenal 2011, Charlton x 2 2018, perhaps even Rodman's equaliser at Wembley but right now none of these come close to last night - the mental in the safe standing, an utter orgy of arms and legs and screaming, hugging fans was utterly joyful, and seeing the beaming faces of the young kids on the pitch actually brought a tear to my eye, seeing the utter disbelief and pleasure on their little faces knowing these will be our fans of tomorrow and for many years to come, because of how last night made them feel. Magnificent.

When you get those rare highs, the feeling is indescribable. I actually feel sorry for those armchair Premier League supporters as they will never experience a moment like when Cummings scored that equaliser.

I had two sets of armchair Liverpool ‘fans’ texting me before the game saying hope I enjoyed it but they would be backing the others!! Nothing odd in that you may say except they all live on the south coast - bizarre. I was not happy and had great delight in texting them back to tell them they were lucky to get two as we scored one of them for them.

Was in the away end Sunday, as i moved down here a few years ago, i have been the ground quite a few times so knew the set up, everyone in our end was very complimentary about the ground, the set up and mixed with the locals in the ale house. During the game we all commented on what a decent side you were, it was no surprise when you equalised, was the least you deserved. Atmosphere, though you were decent, we were bemused at the "You Scouse barstewards" (maybe one of the regulars on here started that one). Our end, probably the quietest ive known, was more akin to a pre season friendly. The replay, we as a whole understand what Klopp is doing, hes not alone, but could have announced it better. The s**te about ruining the FA Cup though, the FA have done a bloody good job of this over the years. His presser today was on the nail with the situation. I would have preferred a mix of experience and the youngsters, think we'll need a good side out. Crowd will still be decent 50kish, you'll have the whole Anny Road end. Enjoy the replay!

Very surprised at how quiet the Liverpool fans were on the night. I was in the car park when they got the second goal and didnt realise they had scored until I took my seat again a couple of minutes later.

They only had somewhere around 1700 tickets, they may well have been snapped up by the less vocal elements of their support.

You speak to some Liverpool fans and they will tell you what a special club they are and what a different fanbase they have, old fashioned fans, traditionalists, knowledgeable, respectful & appreciative of the opposition, a throwback to a different era and a far cry from the aggressive, impatient modern day football fan. The reality is the fans I've come across on social media (which I acknowledge tend to be the dregs of the football fans) have shown they are no better (or worse) than a lot of fans, arrogant, self-centred, living in a bubble and have that tribal attitude that means their club can do no wrong. That was best summed up by a few of their fans questioning Mr Kloppp's post match comments but as soon as opposition fans/pundits did the same then they jumped to his defence

One thing I notice with Premiership supporters is the constant excessive appealing from the crowd for fouls, handball, and every other possible thing. Last nights game with Villa and Leicester was a prime example where a player clearly chests the ball in the area and the whole crowd are appealing for a penalty. I go to some non league games with a friend who regularly attends premiership games and he cannot help himself, it almost like he watches the game with a different set of rules and is quite irritating. They really do think that the players are almost good like untouchables and physical contact is not allowed. Another point from the game on Sunday was the referee seemed to let Liverpool take their free kicks anywhere within a 20 yard radius but not us, everytime we tried he took it back to the correct place. Different world, different rules I'm afraid, and as Zen rightly pointed out we are at the bottom of the pyramid.

What we are getting is the Merseyside version of what we have had for years and years from United and City fans Lets be honest they are all deluded, obnoxious and have no knowledge nor interest in anything outside of the PL (and I'm talking about both the fans and the clubs) I look forward to the day when the whole thing comes crashing down

Ignore the insults from some of our fans at that end of the ground - they enjoy winding up opposition fans. As a friend of mine once said, “they are more concerned about what goes into their mouth than what comes out of it”.
