Sad to read he's died, although he'd suffered from dementia for some time.
Very funny man, talented director and a good historian too - made some really interesting programmes in the 1990s.

Very funny man, talented director and a good historian too - made some really interesting programmes in the 1990s. got mixed up to start with , I thought you were on about our resident potato tel, and then I thought you meant Terry Pratchett, had to google in the end, I kind of forget him being part of Monty but yes still a sad day RIP

Saw him in the health food shop in Llanidloes a few years ago, seemed a nice chap. Life is short, so use it well, he tried his best.

Ripping Yarns really is up there with the very best for me. "Tomkinson's Schooldays" is one of my favorite bits of comedy. Then you have the "Curse of the Claw" and "Golden Gordon". They were superb.
