Radio 4 news: " division 1 side Shrewsbury Town have earned a replay at Anfield against the Premier League leasers Liverpool" That's how it will go down in the record books! Lovely! Be far better if they had included the quite major achievements of being current European and World Club Champions as well though. They did on Smooth radio

Unfortunately could not get a ticket to be there.
Watching the Sam Ricketts interview pre-match saying that we will have to ‘weather the storm’ of Liverpool has me a little concerned that we were going to set up in a very negative way. First twenty minutes were very tough going, the possession stats were 82-18 and it was a case of ‘this could end up being a few’ after their first. BUT, following this we grew into the game. Ended the first half well and I think norburn injury actually helped us set up a bit better. The introduction of Edwards changed the game and for me he was motm but obvious others with excellent performances.
Very very good game and Liverpool very lucky to come away with a replay.

None of our players have been picked up by the Premier league, our manager won't be expecting a knock on the door from a Premier league club. But boy do they try! It's everything we could ask of them and more.

If Liverpool literally don’t play a single first teamer in their squad next week and it’s u18s, surely we’d actually be fairly well fancied at Anfield? Personally I think they’ll back track and throw a few players in like they did today to bolster the kids squad, but if it’s genuinely a full team of u18s it’s the equivalent of a EFL Trophy game where we’d be favourites.

It was nothing to do with Cummings coming on, everyone knows he’s a goal scorer and the chances which were falling our way it was obvious we needed him on the pitch, but for me Lang was our best player up until that point and his reaction to being subbed was not of a man who wasn’t fit enough to continue. I know it was not about Cummings coming on, that much is obvious! There was absolutely no need to boo Ricketts decisions and he was ultimately proved right. Fair enough. I didn’t boo but I thought it was an insane decision given Lang’s performance up to that point. Cummings clearly had to come on but personally I would have put him alongside Lang rather then instead of. Anyway, don’t want to put any negative light on today, we’ll have plenty of other weekends to moan about stuff!

We’re never going to be favourites to win the game don’t get me wrong, but if they genuinely field an even more inexperienced team then today, including only u18 players, we’d have to back ourselves. I do think once Klopp calms down he’ll change his mind and add a couple just to give the team some strength and experience which would then 100% make them overwhelming favourites, but if he doesn’t it will be an interesting game.

What a performance.
Josh Laurent was like a man possessed tonight, hell of a performance by him.
When Love scores that own goal, I thought the tie was over. It’s hard to beat that feeling of when Cummings scored his second, unbelievable.
On a side note, the Liverpool away support has to be one of the quietest away followings to visit the new ground? I’m not buying the “hard to get motivated excuse” etc as Chelsea and Manchester United fans were phenomenal when they visited.

They were awful and like you say that excuse is nonsense as other big clubs fans have turned up, Liverpool’s didn’t. Anfield atmosphere is a myth too. They make out its special and it’s different but thats crap. Every stadium in the country can make great noise for their big games, Anfield will be rocking in Europe or against Utd etc but it will be like a library for the more run of the mill games. I’ve been to Old Trafford for a European night and it was incredible despite finishing 0-0, also been there for Watford in the league and the atmosphere was near non existent, every ground is the same including Anfield but they like to think they’re special.

Liverpool beat a full Premiership Everton team in round 3 and had a stronger side out this evening. Not only did we look the better team we also made those lads who looked so good at Goodison appear ordinary.
Mrs ST is asking me why we can’t play like this every week.

Even at 2-0 down I thought the crowd this evening was brilliant. Perhaps a result of the clubs ticketing policy for the game? Anyhow, only one thing that irked me during the game and that's Shaun Whalley. He's a winger. Lang is a quality player and can hold the ball up. He needs a striker up with him though. Lang, Cummings or Okenabirhie would have scored Whalleys 1st half miss and done a lot better with his 2nd chance. Away at Bristol City he had a great half chance near the end but got squeezed out by some good defending. In that position you want that chance falling to an out and out striker though. I'm not having a go at Whalley, he's a square peg in a round hole situation. Something for the management to consider!

Donald Love showed real guts for the remainder of the second half after his howler in the first minute. I can't imagine the thoughts going through his head after doing that in front of a worldwide audience but he put it behind him, was solid defensively and put in some really dangerous crosses at the other end. If ever a man needed to stand up and be counted it was him. He did himself and the team tremendous credit. Well done Donald!

Well, in truth didn’t expect that . Thought we were excellent particularly in regard to our total commitment. I well remember us playing Liverpool many seasons ago when we were pitiful . Throb up front against Babb , Scales and Ruddock . No chance because we had no ambition. Irrespective of the side they put out today we were determined and played some very good football . Goss showed what a good player he is , but Laurent was superb . Didn’t realise how strong he was , a MOM performance . This match will live long in the memory . Just a word about Love . Yes , he made a dreadful error and I can only guess how he must have felt . But , fair play to him , he didn’t hide , got his head down and did a very good job , very professional . I think he deserves a great deal of credit. COYB.

And amongst the deserved plaudits for Laurent, Lang, Cummings and the back three, a shout out for another player who does a great job without attracting much attention...... Scott Golbourne.
He had a superb game today, showing the virtue of experience when pace is not quite what it was.

Lang, wasn't near it, the other 2 weren't even on the pitch, it's just pure speculation, and Whalleys pace and positioning was part of creating the chances in the first place. He was the assist for Cummings goal too so strange timing of your post, and the BBC pundits applauded his hard work throughout the game. Unbelievable that you see one of our best players as a weakness, so nothing for the management to think about really.

Incredible day, incredible atmosphere. It’s very unusual to be able to pick a man of the match out of a game like that, as they were all superb. It’s even weirder for it not to be the outstanding two goal striker but my word, Josh Laurent’s engine. His quality. Easily one of the best individual performances from a Salop player in my time. Also thought the centre halves dominated Origi & the midfielders made Fabinho look a League One counterpart. Whalley, Lang & Cummings terrorised and embarrassed centre halves that have been and will continue to be very much part of their first team set up. As for Liverpool & Klopp themselves. Never deserved their 2 0 lead and very very poor from the minute our lads stopped showing them too much respect. Credit where it’s due though, post match excuses few and far between and Klopp’s take on the game itself very fair. Really bad if Klopp himself might not be there for the replay but don’t think the team he fielded today was at all disrespectful, we’ve had our big ‘upset’ moment so I’ll happily take on the kids at Anfield and give ourselves chance to take some massive prize money and some last 16 exposure. Hope to see more of the same Wednesday..... COYB

A special evening... another cup tie we will talk about for years to come, but come to think of it as daft as it may sound but Liverpool were there for the taking in the second half, they really thought they had it in the bag, their team and their fans were flat. The replay will be another great occasion for our great little club, we should make the most of it as I think the Premier League will get replays stopped from next season, they will get their way as they always do.

Couldn’t fault any of them tonight. . I actually think it did us a favour with Norburn going off, because Norburn had a petulant kick out at someone and could quite easily have been booked. Edwards was immense when he came on. (Even Norburn’s penalty taking isn’t irreplaceable!)
Lang was superb and I was astonished when he was subbed
Laurent great shift.
Cummings is as mad as a box of frogs!
Back line coped very well.
Midfield showed what great engines they have. Unspectacular but effective.
Whalley made some cracking runs off the last man, just wish he could finish as well!
Great atmosphere from three sides of the stadium. The away end was unbelievably quiet - even when they scored!! Or when we scored on their behalf!!

For those that booed when Cummings was sent on for Lang, just admit it, you know nothing! It was nothing to do with Cummings coming on, everyone knows he’s a goal scorer and the chances which were falling our way it was obvious we needed him on the pitch, but for me Lang was our best player up until that point and his reaction to being subbed was not of a man who wasn’t fit enough to continue. It’s rare that any of our starting strikers play 90 minutes. They’re on their own and have too much running to do. Lang had a fine game but Ricketts got it right. He could have put Cummings on as a second striker and weakened us further back - seems the obvious thing to do when chasing the game. Instead he chose to retain the structure and change the front man. Laurent and Edwards were playing well and finding space - surrendering that for a second striker to play alongside a tiring one could have seen us lose the midfield and reduced to hitting hopeful long balls. It was bold to stick with one striker but events proved Ricketts was right.

Is this actually a serious post?! ❄️ For me not but just highlights the sort of society we live in and how humour at times treads a very fine line. I mist most of the pre match build up, I saw Pilch with his camera phone snapping people, and I assumed he was looking for nasty, bigoted, racist members of b&a to report to the police, so I pulled up my collar, pulled my cap over my eyes, before putting my sun glasses on, and ducked down and pretended I'd lost my pen before crawling further across the row and coming up between the legs of a lady wearing tartan blanket over her knees. She smiled and said, that hasn't happened to me since 19........ THE REST OF THIS POST HAS BEEN REMOVED BY "THE SMUTTY OLD MAN WHO SHOULD KNOW BETTER AT HIS AGE MODERATORS".
