As someone else has said the old Gay Meadow site was perfect apart from the river. There is no doubt we have been spoilt. Never heard of anyone having parking problems there or a decent very nearby pub. Its not just about the stadium. Its about the day out or at least it used to be. No parking problems, really?

Apart from Abbey Forgate car park there was ample free street parking in residential areas without restrictions and within easy walking distance unlike where the ground is now situated. I have supported the town since 1957 and never once did I ever have a problem parking for a game at the Gay Meadow even turning up a few minutes before kick off. Never did I have to park more than a ten minute walk away.

Aside from making the away end larger we do not need to increase capacity until we regularly get close to filling the home sections. Which we don't. Therefore, in answer to the original question, I'd say any new ground should be built better, not bigger (bar slight away allocation increase to milk followings of big clubs).

I remember the good old days when you could watch sky sports at half time and see the latest scores
recently its been adverts with bad audio and unreadable scores at the side
less people are looking at the tvs now than when they were broke

I was there when we had 18,000 plus for the Walsall game, no problem that night.

I was there when we had 18,000 plus for the Walsall game, no problem that night. I was there for several games in 79/80 and a few years after when 10- 14,000 was a regular feature against the better supported teams in what is now the Championship.

As soon we do well in cup runs or big games the tourists & prawns come out...Mickey with his tea trolley. We need at least 12k now, 10 is a bit tight, history proves we can do it. Think the GM designed to expand. Might be a planning height restriction. Just gaps filled in. Would have loved the Gay Meadow to be re_ done . Sad when I pass there. Those lovely Floodlights... we are Shrewsbury. A proper town.

I remember a Geography trip to Birmingham in the early 2000s, observing how gentrification spreads outwards into the suburbs... it wouldn’t surprise me in the mid/distant future that we could be selling up the New Meadow site for development for megabucks. A “stadium on stilts” built on the site of Frankwell car park perhaps?

lets not forget one thing
if we were still at gay meadow
yesterday would have been a miserable late postponement due to a wet pitch

I'd love nothing more than to leave Otely Road and head back into the town centre. The matchday experience would be quality once more. Really detest our 'new' stadium. Personally I'd take being a lower League 2 club with the occasional flirt with the play offs if it meant we would still be playing at Gay Meadow.
Frankwell carpark is a great suggestion! Hopefully one day we'll head back to where we belong.

Monty is perfect for our needs.
Filling in corners at away end would allow bigger away followings but I understood that each corner would cost £1 million so on face value not an economic proposition.
However if we had a run of good seasons back to back and could boost attendances, then filling all corners might be feasible. Lincoln are a great example of how attendances can shoot up

There's nothing wrong with where we are - we're slowly making memories there and it's becoming home but it was always going to take time. Yes, it's not like a town centre ground, but that's just no longer feasible or financially viable.
We're by no means the only football club to have to move to an out-of-town location, and the atmosphere is totally different to those at Gay Meadow, but ultimately the move to the MWM has seen us improve as a club - financially, off the pitch and on the pitch.
The ground was built with sufficient forethought that a second tier can be built onto the existing stands, and there's ample room for the corners to be filled in too if required - but as others have said certainly for the next few decades at least a 10k capacity is perfectly sufficient.

I still think the new(ish) ground lacks character but that's what you get with a bog standard design, one that is just about functional.
At least it's not looking so tired since it had a fresh coat of paint!
I suspect it's going to be our home for years to come.

I like the plans for a new Grasshoppers stadium in Switzerland. The new Hardturm-Stadion will have a capacity of 18,500. It will become the home of both Grasshoppers CZ and FC Zurich.

Would just be nice to have something unique. That's the problem really. We had something unique at the Gay Meadow and have been spoilt. It was a very picture perfect ground alongside the river near the town centre and with Mr Davies and his coracle. Nothing was really going to be good enough for us after that. We do have to move with the times but modern is not always best.

I have no problem with moving to modern, happens to the best of clubs eventually but we have four stands that are essentially the same, and exactly the same as most other new builds in the UK.
