What a strange season this has been so far.
I'm struggling to feel any real connection with the team and put that down to the lack of real entertainment and goals from us. But then I was just looking over our results and it struck me how few home games we've played recently. We had 3 home league games in the first 3 weeks of the season, since when we've had 2 in 2 months, more or less.
I dare say it's different for the away regulars but, for most of us, it's been a really spluttering start to the season, without any of the usual home/away rhythm to it.
We still need more entertainment though - take away the Accrington & Southend games and we've scored 3 goals in the other 10 games. Southend is still the only game in which we've scored in both halves. In 24 halves of play, we haven't scored in 18 of them (75%). I've never seen a prolific Salop team but that's the football equivalent of dry bread and no water.
Here's hoping for tomorrow and beyond.

It's 442 for me tomorrow as it's clear from those stats that (at least at home to Gillingham) we should be a tad more adventurous. Love William's Beckles ? Golbourne Whalley Thompson Norburn Giles Cummings Ok

Gillingham not won away yet all season.
On paper looks like a chance to bag all 3 points but they are an awkward side who have been unlucky in a lot of games this season and regardless of what you all think about Steve Evans, they will come to the Meadow and have a go.
Good to see Sam is mirroring his formation and has already started on the defensive:
‘They have been unlucky in all the games they’ve played at home. They haven’t been getting beat three or four-nil. They’ll be saying if they can keep up their performances they’ll fall on the right side of the line away from home SO WE HAVE TO DO WHAT WE CAN TO NULLIFY THEIR STRENGTHS BUT DO WHAT WE CAN TO IMPOSE OURSELVES ON THE GAME ASWELL’
I expect a win from this.

Golbourne Whalley Thompson Norburn Giles Cummings Ok Ricketts teams only play one formation, he said himself after the Fleetwood game that when he tried to change it mid game it caused all sorts of problems as the players weren't familiar with it. Better get used to the current system as its not likely to change any time soon.

I'm still optimistic that we can have a decent season and the league table (which I hadn't looked at for a while before today) is healthy enough. Fleetwood was the last time I saw us and I need something positive to wipe that slate clean. But, as I said, I think it's the stop-start feel of the season so far (certainly for home fans) that's made me feel a bit detached from it all. Judging by the relatively small number of club-related posts on here recently, I suspect a lot of others are feeling the same. Long way to go and time for some excitement to creep in hopefully. All those years we longed for a boring, mid-table season it was the idea of our league position being boring, not the football!

Wonder what Gill's tactics be, they scored lots more but concede too ..could they attack & go for it, then sit back. Our lack of goals is now obvious, plus less pressure on Gill's as a low profile midweek away game ...up here. If only Shaun could be in starting line up to exploit their weakness .. things need change.. or just change start 2nd Half.

What a strange season this has been so far. I'm struggling to feel any real connection with the team and put that down to the lack of real entertainment and goals from us. It is a weird one. I agree about the lack of goals, the lack of entertainment and the lack of quality football. For the most part it's not a great watch. And with that you find yourself thinking things aren't going too well and you're a tad concerned about what's ahead of us. But then you go over to soccerstats and see we're sat 13th in the table having only lost the 3 games. Having watched the games this season I get a feeling that things aren't going too well...but actually, when it comes to our record and our position in the league, we're doing OK...

from a points and league position view point we are doing well and i preffer that too a season of hovering over the drop zone. as for an entertaining and goal scoring team it is like watching paint dry, i hope in time that will change. ( our weakness is that with one exception once we go two down the game is over) as for changing formation why would ricketts change it the evidence showes it works, he made it very clear in pre season the way he was going to play.however i personanly would like to see us play differently occasionally just to mix it up.

Id probably go with the same team from Lincoln, but I'd be insisting they move the ball forwards quicker. I appreciate possession retention, especially away from home, but at home you need to be the side probing and taking the game to the opposition.
I'd love an entertaining 3-0, but I'd snap your hand off for 1-0.

You tend to come away aggrieved because nothing happened & it wasn’t worth your time or effort. It feels like you’ve watched something really s**te, but in reality Town were just boring & organised rather than cr@p. A type of boring and/or organised that may well see us scr@p at either end of the division. I enjoyed Askey more but he could only dream of this points tally! Very strange 15 months or so..

Early doors but when you look at the table then fair enough, Ipswich are off to a decent start as expected...but then Sunderland are 10th, Pompey are 18th. Then you have Wycombe sat in 2nd and Fleetwood in 4th. Maybe things will settle down in time and we'll see those who were expected to do well up their game but as things stand, the division looks wide open. But where we'll finish, no idea. As you say, could be either end. Which I suppose is a better place than we have been previously, where its been pretty normal for us to be struggling at this level. At least that doesn't appear to be a given this time around...👍

Enjoyed the Southend game a lot with two sides going for it, but suspect that was more the exception than the norm for this season
While he maybe wasn’t a massive goal threat I thought Lang’s energy and work rate was really good in that game and created space for the other strikers and midfielders, so his injury will take something from our game. Whalley is the only other player who really brings that to our forward line but doesn’t seem to be getting starts as much now

Well its another cracker. Its poor again from Town and not much better from the away side. We've not got anything going as an attacking force.
