I’m ok with this. So what happens with his contract? Just cancelled?

Now 36, Morison completed his Pro Licence managerial qualification last month (SEPT), and has decided to leave current club Shrewsbury Town to take up a role coaching at Northampton Town where he first turned pro.
Seems fair enough that. And the very best of luck to him.

One of our stranger bits of transfer business this summer, and not really a surprise to see this news. The initial loan bring extended into a years contract was an odd move and I got the sense he never seemed happy here
Good luck to him in his future career

Perfect outcome - off the wages and no pay-off by sounds. Looks like his legs had gone, terminal when that happens. Seems a decent fella, knew it had happened so took an opportunity to coach, rather than sit here and pick up a wage for doing nothing for the rest of the season. Can't fault him for that.

...and I got the sense he never seemed happy here Maybe. From looking how its turned out it would seem that from the off he was very much focused on management rather than playing.

So that's two strikers down in a week...Step up Udoh, Okenabarie, Whalley and Cummings and soon LJL may join the fray

You could see he still had the brain, just not the legs! Apparently going to be on Talksport this morning. Every best wish to him.

But apart from LJL, who isn't yet fit and isn't of the standard required anyway, we now have no big striker able to win headers and hold up the ball to bring others into play. So the long ball lumped forward will be somewhat ineffective.
With LJL likely to be gone in January, Morison retired, and doubts about the fitness of Lang, SR will surely be wanting to add another striker to the squad in January.

I wonder how much was wasted on this deal in terms of agents fees and signing on fees etc, even loans and free transfers have associated expense. Not to mentions the wages we have paid which were likely to be at, or near to, the top end of our wage scale. It's a good move for him but leaves us looking short on forward options again having looked better in this department at the end of the transfer window.

He's seen LJL in training, might be able to help him at Northampton as he comes back to fitness? Otherwise could see us doing a bit of loan business to Northampton.

When he came to us he probably thought he could still be effective by dropping down a league, but he wasn't.
Very good player in his day, but his body let him down. He could have just stayed and took a wage, but did the decent thing and moved on.
I have no problem with that, good luck to him.

I do wonder if we have had to pay him off. Be classic of this club if we had to a free a mutual termination for a move to another club. Hes retired from paying but not from football.... One for ask Brian when it next comes up.

No but to help him find somewhere would be good for his rehabilitation and won’t do the club’s reputation any harm either.

We can't loan him anywhere in the EFL until January, by which time his contract will have run out anyway. Unless someone in the National League wants him, which to be honest is his level.

His contract expires in January. I knew LJL contract expired in Jan, but just thought there might be something he could do at Northampton, he usually impresses with his attitude. But, otherwise if some one isn't being used then a L2 loan.....?

Does seem a bit odd that Morison's been given a virtual eulogy on the club's website when other, more loyal and long-serving, players have left without so much as a 'don't let the door hit your arse on the way out'.

Mate of Ricketts, did coaching badges together. Might not be totally the "right" way, but friends at other clubs is always a good thing.

Nothing like a bit of conspiracy on a Friday.
From what I can gather, he was a big character around the Club and well respected. He is also a mate of SR.
Unsurprisingly, people can make a big impact in the workplace in a short space of time.

Hmm, some really deluded people, always looking for Blame, and Conspiracy.
On the face of it, A decent player with a decent track record, was brought in for a reason, A known goal scorer, who seems the perfect fit at the time, unfortunately with additional signings, and old father time catching up with him departs for a coaching job after retiring, as its now as plain as the nose on your face that he will not get much game time. Seems perfectly sensible from both the club and the player. But nope, usual suspects looking for a non story out of it!!

No agents fees as Morrison to his credit is one of a very elite few players who to his credit actually didn’t have an agent

I agree, however Morison didn’t really do much of that anyway, certainly not as much or to the standard we, Sam and himself probably thought he could. No point keeping him here as that option if he has decided for himself that he’s not up to it. As for the big farewell post by Shrewsbury, I would think it’s more to do with a long career ending, he’s retired. Who else is going to sum up and write a piece about his long & fairly successful career? Sadler probably deserved more of a thank you but I think people are clutching at straws to be able to moan if they’re annoyed at a summary of SM’s career.
