there was an article in the Telegraph online oday that suggests Ronney is in discussions with the club about a move to Derby in a role as players coach. Rooney currently plays for DC United in Major League Soccer. who knowes if this has legs.

The thread title sounds like it was dictated by Sven-Göran Eriksson.

I'm reading that Derby will circumvent FFP rules on Rooneys wages through appointing him as a coach.
Only half of his salary will be included in the FFP calculation.
Of course as its Rooney the EFL will wave this through willy's in hand at the prospect of more money and exposure for the championship.

He's only on 2.7m basic which isn't that much, there average attendance is 26.5k and there the 19th best supported team in the country.

'While the decision to move home was a tough one, family is everything to us and we make this change to be closer to the ones we love back in England," he added'.
Translation - 'Coleen didn't want me to run around unsupervised in the USA chatting up barmaids, and I was told to report to her by phone every day. I was more than happy to see out my contract, but I'm now under orders to return immediately to the UK'.

Aside from you know circumventing the rules in this way for a team that's already pushing ffp to the limit. But yeah no problem.

But I know there was dodgy dealings with the stadium last year, but on paper they made a 14 million profit, yeah its like a Bury but its exactly what Sheffield Wednesday and Villa have done just not covered it up so well, still the sponsors will be very happy and as you say the championship will be happy.

There was indeed dodgy dealings with the stadium. The club sold it to the Mel Morris and now lease it back. Where have we heard his before? Brighton, Bury, Coventry, Hereford, Chester and more have done this in recent years and look where it has left them. The FA/EFL have a lot to answer for allowing this to happen. A prerequisite for membership to the EFL should be that clubs own their own ground without mortgage or third party involvement. Doesn’t RW own the Medda and lease it to the club?
