Things are starting to come together quite nicely. I'm starting to think like that too. I'm really looking forward to this season with some hope. After all these years you'd think we'd have learnt by now. Must be daft. im daft as well

Still remember the excitement when Benny Gall arrived. ....and the relief when he left ! Looked like Schmichael but played like a statue of him ! Early in the ‘96/97 season we played at Burnley and won 3-1 and I remember Gall having a great game. If we’d had B&A in those days I’d have written about what a good ‘keeper we had signed. The other memory from that night is coming out of Turf Moor and completely forgetting where I’d parked my car. It took an hour of wandering the streets around the ground to find it.

Why is this important? He's been offered a deal to be 3rd choice. Of course he'll look for better and good luck to him if he finds it. If he doesn't, he can stay here on the terms offered. Why do we need to force the issue and have to look for an alternative 3rd choice keeper? We have much bigger priorities. Because we don't need a 3rd choice keeper. Gregory or the loan system is more than adequate. The manager thinks we do, so that’s that. Gregory needs to play somewhere, not be 3rd choice here. That’d do nothing for his development.

Ricketts thinks we need three goalkeepers, excluding Gregory, most other managers seem to be happy with two goalkeepers. Gregory can still play elsewhere if we have two goalkeepers as the emergency loan rule would allow a goalkeeper to be brought in in the event of an injury crisis.

Gregory can be recalled if he's with a non league club. We've done that with Sears. Plus Jensen is only 44, one year younger than Coyne and only 6 years older than Murphy. Surely he could be brought in as the bench warmer in the exceptionally unlikely event that he's needed rather than waste a wage on Charles Cook.

I like the fact we have a very experienced keeper. If we can complement Joe with either a good young keeper on a permanent deal or a young Premier league keeper on loan then I think we have the perfect combination. I'm not really bothered about a third keeper as Ricketts seems to want - I'd rather spend the budget elsewhere and dip into the emergency loan market for a keeper if injuries happen or recall Cam Gregory from wherever he ends up. For a club like ours I don't really see the benefit of a third choice keeper that we are, in all likelihood, paying to sit in the stands. We should do what Artell did with Garratt at Crewe, and withdraw the offer to Charles Cook because he's taken way too long to make his mind up. Not many on here can understand why SR is offering a contract to him anyway, so to withdraw the offer would be a bullet dodged. Just how many times have you seen Charles Cook play to have such an inside knowledge of his ability? Seems many fans have judged him based on hearsay and little else. Worrying!

and we've had a few! Tooze, Cartwright, Dunbavin to name but 3. Whilst I technically agree, I've got to let Dunbavin off as he held on to one (straight down his throat tho) in the dying moments away at the great escape at Exeter. But Cartwright.... his name should be banished from our playing records.

He can't have that much ability if all that SR is offering him is the role of a 3rd keeper who will either be sat in the stands or occasionally on the bench. And my comment related to the length of time he's taken to make his mind up. In the past, we have lost patience with another of our keepers when he was stalling and withdrew the offer. He then wanted to sign but was told it was too late. Forgotten who it was. Neal perhaps?
