From club website: with errors of course
One player who has been missing from training since the start pre-season is Anthony Grant. He underwent a dental operation, which meant he couldn’t train and Sam has revealed the plans for Granty.
“Anthony needed some dental work and part of that was that he couldn’t do physical activity for two weeks following that operation”, said Sam.
“That is because raising blood pressure can increase the risk of bleeding.
“That period has come to a close and following that Granty will be training with the youth team.
“He won’t be part of the first-team set-up this season due to reasons which will remain in-house.”

I dunno what he’s supposed of done, but get him in the team, midfield is so lightweight, forget Edwards, it’s just a nostalgia thing, he’s not gonna play a big part for us. Laurent is injured and will miss the start of the season/not be fully fit. Same with Norburn. So we’re gonna go into the season with the only fully fit midfield of the lad from Wrexham and vincelot. Why would we spite ourselves of one of our best players from last season. Fine him wages, give him extra duties, cutting the grass.. do anything.. but why **** ourselves over just to ride the high horse

I don't get why we exercised the year extension for Grant? If he wasn't going to be part of our plans, we should have got rid.
I understand we don't want to miss out on a fee but how much would a 32 year old command? Possibly 40-60k?
Is that worth the risk to keep Grant around and potentially be stuck with him for the forthcoming season. He is probably one of our highest earners, we should have freed that money up to bring someone else in, IMO.

It’s a shame there doesn’t seem to be any rumours regarding a potential new club for Grant. Though I’m sure we all really want to know what’s gone on. Why did we extend his contract and take a risk on getting a fee for him? Or has he done something wrong since? What would we get for him like £50k maximum. If we don’t sell him or sort a loan for him this summer we’re surely making a loss, not good business. Worst case scenario is we pay him off.
I wonder if Grant has asked for a move and has caused a bit of a stir.

I'd prefer Jimmy rowland given a go than a disinterested alleged troublemaker grant involved.

The biggest issue the club have with all this if there is some smoke and mirrors going on is as soon as Grant is out of the door he will tell it like it, no worry's about that.
He was the one that opened the door on the Askey madness after he went...
Could be absolute fireworks.

Sorry if the pic wasn't working a couple of posts ago. It was a picture of Anthony Grant's Instagram profile saying 'Shrewsbury Town Youth Team Judge' in his bio. Lewis Cox has tweeted about it.

Granty has clearly been a naughty boy then to be frozen out the way he has, we’re currently a little short in midfield as well but it seems his days here are certainly numbered and just a case of playing the waiting game now for some club to take him off our hands...

Im sure there is more to the story. For example Ricketts does not want him pre Portugal and tells him though Grant would like to stay (rumours of a clash of personality). Ricketts leaves him at home Grant gets p**sed off and " does something naughty" the club dont like Club make up bull s**t Teeth story Town come back. Grant still at club, wants to keep training so club punt to youths to still force him out. Hes now annyoed and likely thinks F it I do want to go, but im on good money, so can play it out over a longer time period that Salop would like. All in all bit of a car crash from the "good news" town put up about his extra year to his deal just ONE month ago!

At least the news isn't too bad. We should be able to cope without Murphy until the end of August which looks like the worst case for him but best case he could be available around the first week of the season. Norburn is not so good as he will miss the remainder of pre-season so when he eventually does return to training in mid to late August he'll be playing catch up in terms of his fitness. Which is much more of an issue for a centre midfield player than for a goalkeeper I would think. Similarly with Laurent, although it sounds like he will return to training sooner than Norburn. With Edwards also behind in terms of his pre-season and Grant out of the picture all of a sudden we're looking rather light in the centre of midfield. Young Rowland is likely to be involved around the start of the season the way things are looking at the moment.

I’d rather have grant. We’re Shrewsbury town, not the Royal Marines.. what ever he’s done he’s done it in the off season.. his time.. can do what he wants. Get off your high horse Rickets - you earn respect it’s not a given.

You don't even know what he's done ? If he's on a good whack, he'll be here to January at least. What club will take on a 32 year old who ain't match fit and is clearly trouble ?

Speculation, but wonder if the extensive dental work is the result of a fight? Think back to after the away fixture at Plymouth last season and maybe Greg Docherty could enlighten us all ....... allegedly 😜

Plenty of time to bring in either a loan or permanent player into the midfield. We need a couple in the midfield department anyway. And with Norburn's injury and Grant's imminent departure (hopefully) we could end up with a top player meaning that when Norburn returns we get real competition for places. Not such good news for Edwards.

Just call him into the office and say ‘look if you want to go we are willing to release you with no payoff....otherwise you will sit in the reserves unless a bid comes in’
Don’t want to judge too much...it must have been bad to end up like his. I suspect Grant had already signed for another club pre season to which we said ‘but you are contracted for another year’ to which he said ‘f@# off’ hence the status quo.

Can’t be that bad or surely they wouldn’t want him mixing with the youth set up.

I suppose if it was that bad he wouldn’t even turn up to train with the youth team....he’d just go awol?
