Any one know if there will be an open day this year? I have not heard any thing and I know the club was not keen on the Idea, so with the trip away and the friendly's I was not sure if the idea had been scraped.

Yep, hopefully they’ve canned it, but let’s see.

This used to be one of the most eagerly anticipated dates of the summer for many fans and fans groups but strangely seemed to stop as soon as we had an experienced CEO (Matt Williams) who allowed Micky Mellon and the team to dodge coming in ‘to meet the fans’.
They've tagged it onto an existing friendly the last couple of years but I don’t think it’s worked as well as the old ‘Open Days’ with kids entertainments, ground tours et al..... I can remember 1000’s attending at the old GM with long queues to buy the latest kit and meet the players where they had plenty of time to get autographs and chat.
Think the management and players have been allowed too much say in this and it affects the bonding and relationship between fans and players....
Now Ricketts thinks meeting a few influential fans behind closed doors is a good way to build a relationship with the fans when surely being around for an afternoon at an open day would meet many more and give him a chance to get them onside.....

I went a number of years ago and I really enjoyed it. Shame it's no longer a priority for the club.

Went as a kid and loved it. My kids have enjoyed it in the past. Cannot see why it is not felt to be a good idea.

Probably not the best idea to tag it onto the Villa game with so many away supporters there. Disappointed at lack of home friendly games pre season at the moment. Thought it was a good idea during the Hurst pre season to play so many Championship teams. It really seemed to set us up for the new season with plenty of confidence running through the team and supporters.

Just called into the club to check if the Shop was open on Saturdays so I could take my Grandsons to buy the kit but only weekdays which seems a bit strange. They need to open when customers want to go not when they want to Work! I did ask about an open day and was told it may be the day before the Villa game but no decision made yet.....Just an idea but why not have an open training session at Sundorne where fans can meet and mingle....Justfeel a lot of fans haven’t clicked with the manager and he needs to be more open (not with a select few) to get the fans to buy into his ideas....

Myself and my boys still think highly of Roland having met him at an open day, surely it's worth it just for that?

Good stuff. Always enjoyed them when I was younger as it was about the only chance to meet the players and have a look around those parts of the ground you never ventured in to (behind the scenes as it were). Could never afford a season ticket but used to get the priority card in too on the open days, still have them somewhere... Do think with an effort (a fair bit, mind) it could be a real day for the calendar with the amount of room available at the new stadium. They could make it a real county event to get the season up and started...

Think I'll give it a miss, hardly fills me with enthusiasm looking at a reworked bus shelter.
I expect the chosen few have already had their meet the players!!

Andy, dont forget that your experience of the open day possibly seemed much better when your kids were little, you probably had more fun watching them a bit like watching them open presents at xmas, but they have grown up and the magic has gone, but would it have been even better then had there been a game to watch as well ?

Something we have and will continue to discuss with the club and community team. I know STITC want to @look to see if we can do something bigger for next summer so will be something we take on as SLO’s hopefully.
This year we just wanted to find a way to do something for the fans so with the limited time we have had this was the best option. Gives everyone a chance to meet the new squad and backroom team and have a wander round the new dressing rooms and have a drink.

You may be right in as much as you tend to remember things were better than the were but I now take my two Grandsons and they’ve both said they didn’t like the open day with a game and didn’t hand around for the meet the players because everyone wanted to see them at the same time.... long queues... Think the comments on here (and the clubs late decision) show it’s a popular event and it will also take the pressure off the club shop with two days over a weekend to and you’ll be able to park at the club for the open day which wouldn’t have been allowed if the Villa game was on 👍 Everyone’s happy unless you live some distance away I guess ..

I used to go to the open days, both to take my son, (who came to his senses and stopped coming), who loved going, but also to catch up with Chris Smith in person, so that I could open up my wallet to show him it was empty! I then also took my lovely eldest granddaughter. She wasn't bothered about football, but isn't it lovely she wasn't to spend time with an old man?
We walked into the tunnel, and there was my favourite ever Town keeper, Ken Mulhearn, who I had met on several occasions before, (and since), but I wasn't expecting him there. I said to Marissa, "blimey, look who's here, this bloke who play a bit".
Fantastic keeper was Ken. For those of you that missed him bollocking the defenders for getting out of position missed a treat. How the hell did we sign a goalie who had won a fust division championship medal playing for Man City? Yet a more down to earth bloke you couldn't wish to meet.
Quality keeper, quality person.
