I thought I would post this non football thread after we had a great time last evening watching Tears for Fears in Delamere forest. They are a group that I've wanted to see for years and after a long wait we were not disappointed. It was a beautiful venue, the sun shone (for a change) and the music was brilliant.
A day before my daughter went to watch Men at Work at the Manchester academy and she too loved it!
Anyone recently been to see a group/singer from their youth? Was it as good as you hoped?

Dexys in Manchester a few years ago. There was no retro aspect, they played through their new album and none of the old classics. I loved it though and it was great to see Kevin Rowland performing live.
Other than that I can only think of Roxy Music in Southampton back in 1979! It’s forgotten now but that was a comeback after a long hiatus since their previous album and a period when they might never have reformed, so it felt like catching up on something. It was also a reinvention, as the glam/art rock 70s band of Virginia Plain, Song For Europe, Street Life etc re-emerged with a smoother 80s style. Not as startlingly original but I still liked it a lot. They were supported by the Tourists too - Annie Lennox & Dave Stewart. Memorable night all round.

We used to live next door but one to Curt Smith’s ex-wife, near Bath. In fact she was a client of mine for a while.

You’ve also just reminded me of the Music of Cream gig at the Theatre Severn in October. The sons of Jack Bruce & Ginger Baker plus someone with a connection to Eric Clapton playing Cream songs. Bizarre but think I might try to get a ticket for that.
I wish I’d seen Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets recently, playing 60s & 70s Pink Floyd stuff (ie the best). Another bizarre aspect of that one is Gary Kemp of Spandau Ballet playing guitar & presumably singing!

Not a great lover of the big concerts as they are mainly in big arenas where your looking at screens. Got tickets for KD Lang at Liverpool Philharmonic next month. Theatre Severn in town occasionally gets a decent artist or group. Paul Carrick is very good live and there are some really good tribute acts you can get to see in cosy surroundings like ELO Experience and the Eagles tribute, Talon. Mind you there are some pretty poor ones as well.

I eventually saw Sleeper in Manchester last year after they reformed 20 years after wanting to see them.
Saw proclaimers and Status Quo at Car Fest last year after never quite getting to see them.
Also the opportunity to see Blondie a few years back in Liverpool as such an iconic band. Half of the time I thought I was watching one of the coolest women who had ever lived and half the time thinking it was an old girl that danced like my mum.

Seeing Billy Joel at Wembley tonight - seen him before many years ago and he was terrific.
Saw ELO at Wembley couple of years ago and then again at O2 last October - brilliant both times

We are doing Car Fest for the first time this year, really looking forward to it. I hoping that a couple of more acts are still to be announced. Although I'm an 80s man I am actually looking forward to listening to Clean Bandit.

A friend of mine in her early 60s and her husband in his late 60s discovered Jeff Beck a few years ago.He literally hadn't registered with them until then.
