so VAR steps in to award France another penalty presumably Platini is in the VAR office the penalty hits the post, but wait, the keeper was fractionally off her line, ( 1 foot has to be on the line so she was 2 inches off her line) never mind the 3 French players well inside the box, take it again ok lets take it again goal! and ignore the France player in the box

What strikes me about this reliance on VAR for positional decisions, eg was the player offside, was the keeper off the line (thankfully that's not going to be VAR's job in the Premier League) etc, is that a player can be ruled offside or whatever by millimetres on the basis that VAR has identified for certain when the ball was struck.
I've never seen the replay rolling back and forward to isolate that precise moment, that's assumed to be a given and then we look at the players' positions. Are they right to be 100% certain of the split second when contact is made with the ball? I haven't heard it explained how.
If we have VAR then it must rule on clear offsides but these decisions involving whether a heel or toe is in an offside position are ridiculous and absolutely against the spirit of the game.

The first time a keeper saves a penalty, and is shown by Sky to be a fraction off his line, there will be a call to introduce VAR for this Penalty shoot outs could take a lot longer
