I would have to agree that Millie Bright did have a poor game against Norway. Having said that she was a doubt for the game with illness so hopefully she is now back to full fitness. Even if we go behind the good thing is that we are always looking good going forward and likely to score. We do need to change penalty takers tho. I am sure we have others in the team who take them for their clubs. Jill Scott is a very prolific penalty taker, I’d back her to score if we get one. Neither of Parris’ penalties have been in the corner they’ve been at an easy height for the goalkeeper to save if she guesses the right way. Will be a very tight game but unfortunately I can see us bowing out with a good battling performance in all likelihood but I believe USA will be vulnerable if we take the game to them like Spain did and France did in the last 25/30 mins. This England team are well capable of scoring against USA with our attack.

From what I've seen, we look pretty sharp going forward and a bit shaky at the back. We seem to be vulnerable to drifting and losing concentration when we're ahead too.
I haven't really seen much of the Americans but no doubt we're the underdogs. Could be a cracking game. I hope there are plenty watching. It'd be a real sign of progress if there are good numbers in the pubs showing it but I like that there's such a strong female presence in the crowds.

Would love to see this England team playing at the Meadow again. If I remember right they did play an international at the Meadow a few years ago. The FA seem to share it out a bit with Walsall hosting a game recently. No doubt if they do win the World Cup it will be premiership grounds doing the hosting in the future. This team are going to be a massive draw in this country win or loose tonight.

one strategy Spain used very succesfull was to get in Alex Morgan space combined with a physical element. i am not advocating kicking her out of the game but Spain managed to physically intimidate her and she was virtually kept out of the game.

Good stuff that from England. Blimey though, our defence is poor.

On that replay of that USA goal there’s a Shrewsbury Town flag behind that goal with the new badge on and the old Shrew logo

Well they'll be kicking themselves this morning that's for sure, what an opportunity that was to level it up in the last minutes. Seem to have done what best they could in sticking in the game against the best side in the world (no mean feat that in itself) only to... And it was a bad pen that. Still they look to have come on a shed load England, really did play well (really well at times) and if they keep on as they are then they might well get to the levels shown by the US soon enough. And the USA really are still the top dogs, they do look a level above so fair play to them. Going to be huge favorites to win the thing again come the weekend. Still, thanks to England ladies. Did us proud and provided us with a fair bit of entertainment over the last few weeks.👍

Well done to Steph Haughton for having the courage to step up for the penalty.

the diffrence between defeat and victory; half a boot off side and a weak penalty, however Houghton desrvers a lot of credit to step up in that pressuer cooker situation and take the penalty. this game showes that England have closed the gap against one of the best teams in the world.what is so frustraing was that both goals came from poor defending a combination of ball watching and not tracking / picking up the run and we were punished for it.
in the first half , O'Hara , heath and Lavelle combined to work in a triangle in the last third of the right wing . Spain showed how to stop this you just cant afford to allow a player like Lavelle that amount of space and time on the ball.Spain reduced her space and heaths and kept them a lot quieter than England did. so often England distribution in the last third was inconsistent and we just did not give Daley and mead the ball enough. a well take goal by England fine margins and the second was off side the curse of penalties ends another world cup. what was nice to see was as Lavelle went off with a hamstring injury neville patted her on the back

Disappointing performance from England. Too much of their passing was poor - too slow to move the ball in their own half which, against a team as fit and fast as the US, only increases the pressure, and then over-hasty with some of their passing when they were in attack.
No question the US were the better team, even though they only seem to play in short periods and contain for the rest. It would be great for the women's game if the Netherlands or Sweden could cause an upset and win.
As for VAR, I think it got both decisions right BUT …
The offside rule should be changed - if your feet are onside, as White's were, then you're onside.
More than that, VAR shouldn't be used as it is now - as a pedant interfering with the flow of the game. Give each coach three challenges per game and one for extra time. They have 15 or 20 seconds to signal that they're making a VAR challenge or let it go. And that's it.

England looked more sharper when playing 4/3/3 but went for A 4/4/2, If England wont too win majour tournaments they will need to be a lot better defensivley, it has been there achilies heel all tournament and till the US game were not punished for it. the US recyled the ball well and won a lot of 50 - 50 goals ,whilst the defeat is disapointing the better team won but England desrve a lot of credit for how they played.

Agreed, I wouldn't be too critical of England. They had a good tournament, just a shame they didn't perform as well as they can when it really mattered. Defence certainly needs to improve - as one writer said, it's hard to believe England had only conceded one goal before last night and relying on late blocks and goal line clearances is never going to last. It's fantastic that there was so much interest though. I'll certainly keep watching.

then you look at the figure of over a billion expected to watch the whole tournament ,the game is getting bigger which will increase the comercial intrest. 1.8 million women play football in the uk. the challenge for the british clubs is to increase the fan base for the league games.

Poor game that. I have no hope for Netherlands on Sunday, can’t see it being much of a contest. Great goal to win it though mind from Groenen who signed for Man United from Frankfurt just before the tournament.

Yeah, not the best game. One or two decent saves though which I think highlighted again the standard of goalkeeping now in the womans game. I mean it used to be a running joke that, I'd day that's been put to bed now (at the very least at highest level anyhow). Was a great hit to win the game.

i had hoped Sweden would win, i feel the netherlands are always complaining and seem to go down far to easily. as for the match Sweden should have done better with the amount of corners they had , both keepers made very good saves, i think Sweden looked to have run out of steam. a well taken goal but a disapinting semi final. the Nerherlands are going to have to dramatically improve, however they are danegrous on corners and set pieces and the us defence have frailties.
however i think the US are so good they would not be bothered who they play

England will have seen the dutch game and i am sure Nevile will be training to cope with Swedens very acurate corners and a team who pack the goal and stop the keeper coming for them. the defence has been our achilies heel, sweden are very organised so we will do well to get a consolation third.

I've been impressed with some of the keepers in the tournament, although I think England could be a bit better there. The size of women goalkeepers relative to the frame of the goals is a factor when they're compared to men; it's almost always going to be a bit easier to find the net when the keeper is smaller. Slightly smaller goals for women's football would certainly help the keepers impress more but it would also reduce the number of goals scored. Not sure but I'd probably keep the same size goals.
