At least one innacuracy in the Star Report too - Dave Tong didn’t score on the afternoon, it was an evening game......

I was there too as a 17 year old, unfortunately unlikely to be repeated in the modern era!

Remember the day well, bunked off college at Bridgnorth, went to West Mid Show, too much to drink, sobered up for the game, and saw myself on my brother's shoulders on the Midlands news the following night. Great season and some interesting away trips to Lincoln and Gillingham spring to mind.

good job hurst wasn't in charge then
we'd have lost 1-0 and not gone up he'd already have done a deal to leave and would have taken Atkins and Maguire with him and he's only 5 years old ;-)

I wonder how many of that team lived locally compared to present day town teams. I can certainly remember seeing a large number of them about the town centre and in local pubs. Supporters could really feel a connection with the club. It was also great to see so many players from that time retire to the town or start up a new business. Mainly pubs.

I too was 17 and went to the West Mid Show before heading on down to the Meadow. Fantastic night, fantastic season.

Great evening in the Riverside, no one else playing we knew a win for champions , a draw to go up, and a defeat to stay in the third division, we were too good to fail, great night.
