Wrexham fans are telling me that SR is going for Rob Lainton. Recently voted their player of the season and fans I have spoken to rate him very highly, think they are gutted to be losing him, if there is any truth in it.

However, at 1st sight his stats don't look too promising. 4 years at Bury with only 38 appearances, during which time he was loaned out twice. 6 appearances for Port Vale before being sent on a one year loan to Wrexham. www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=56646

I believe he is out of contract interesting comment from his Bolton days. Speaking in May 2010, Bolton Wanderers reserve team manager John Henry described Lainton as "an infectious character and a real grafter", "a good all-round keeper... a great shot-stopper and kicks well".

Heard good things about Lainton, who knows. We dropped a clanger letting Craig Mac leave, although for him it’s probably worked out better at Pompey.

A couple of quotes from that thread. "He is a very good 'keeper. If he came off his line for corners and free-kicks he would be a great 'keeper." "the clean sheets have more to do with the defence in front of him than his ability..." Someone in that thread also linked us with their centre back Shaun Pearson.

Man Utd must be close to recalling Dean Henderson. He could certainly do no worse than the current No 1.

Man Utd must be close to recalling Dean Henderson. He could certainly do no worse than the current No 1. He automatically goes back to them next weekend after his loan ends. He can't be recalled now as I understand the season long loan rules, that can only happen in the January window.

Joe Hart's wages would be probably be around what we pay most of our squad collectively each week!

If some people were concerned about Arnold coming in from non-league (Barrow)/Gillingham bench last summer then I doubt they would be that happy with Lainton stepping up two divisions to become our number one choice.

Ricketts comments when he signed Lainton from Port Vale.
"He is a keeper with really good ability. He has come through a Premiership academy at Bolton and played league football through his career"

Joe Hart's wages would be probably be around what we pay most of our squad collectively each week! he was on 7 million a year 2 seasons back played like a fool at Torino ? West Ham and burnley ever since he seems to have less interest in the game than Lee Angol he's had a great career but its gone downhill faster than a wheel of cheese and its hardly going to be re-ignited with us offering him a grand a week ;-)

"the clean sheets have more to do with the defence in front of him than his ability..." Think this is true to some degree of every decent keeper, he looks good because he has a good defence in front of him. Of course if the defence have confidence in the keeper that will help them to perfo4m well too.
