It's the playing against ten men and the performance we gave that I can't fathom. Ricketts has got to learn to be ruthless in these situations. I bet the FA have asked for his half time team talk transcript so that they can include it in their coaching manual of what NOT to say to a team at half time when winning and playing against ten men. Embarrassing.

Playing such a high line with such a lack of pace at the back really was a disaster.

Second Oxford goal a result of Beckles getting on the wrong side of his man, yet again. Third goal result of yet another failure by Whalley to beat the first defender with a cross,a long hoof upfield and the wrong defender expected to deal with it. Three things learnt yesterday, 1 Mitchell is no better than the much maligned Steve Arnold,2 Bolton is no wing back 3 Whalley s crossing is abysmal, although to be fair he had nobody to cross to. Add to these Okenabirie can't play upfront on his own, clueless.

To be fair to Whalley, he never hides and is always likely to be the greatest source of frustration because he tries more things than others - taking on a man, passing, crossing, set pieces, shooting. Perhaps he should play the percentages a bit more but I suspect he's still the player our opponents are most concerned about. I felt sorry for him yesterday because his frustration seemed to match ours.

I m not knocking Whalley for effort and passion which are always top class, but his set pieces rarely produce anything and like yesterday often put us the back foot.

Another couple of points: is there something in our contract with Stoke that says Campbell only plays an hour and why was Sears rested in favour of Bolton who has been carrying an injury?
What is it with managers and young players? If I was fit and 19/20 I would be insulted by the suggestion that I didn’t have the stamina to play more than once a week for the full 90. It’s not as though those players have already played 40+ games this season.
Campbell can play the lone striker role and still had running in him. Okenabirhie is too lightweight, doesn’t close defenders down and generally yesterday didn’t seem to have a clue about his positioning.

No, it's just Ricketts view that he can't play a full game, something that Nathan Jones seemed surprised about in a recent interview he gave. Bolton had been playing well for the last few games before he got injured. It would have been just as unfair, probably more so, not to recall him than to keep Sears in the side.

Is Arnold fit cos Mitchell’s now been involved in 3/4 errors in the last few (maybe 2) games He's only recently started his rehab. I don't think he'll be playing again before pre-season.
