Is that Chris Brass the former player who has taken them to court?

Be interesting to see how they invest in better players for their likely step up next season - oh hang it IS Bury we are talking about, will no doubt be spending more money that they haven’t got.

Is that Chris Brass the former player who has taken them to court? Yes, he was a player for them in 2006/07. However, his action relates to his time as their Manager in 2016/17. Here's some comments from the Bury Fans Forum:- "Nice to see Brass still cares about his former club. Appreciate he may be owed money for some sort of unfair dismissal claim, but it's not as though he really earned it in the disastrous spell in charge." "Let's be honest here, it's 18 months since he should have been paid. he probably tried every avenue under Day to get what is rightfully owed to him. He has a family and commitments like all of us probably do. It will be his solicitor who is steering it in this direction. I bet if he didn't have to do it this way he wouldn't have - he's been left with no alternative in my opinion. He was a good servant to the club - he wasn't a slave."

Bassini though …… I'd rather my club go bust and start again than have someone like that own it. His mockery of his former club, Watford, and its fans after they lost in the play offs was revolting. If he's "fit and proper", the EFL might as well throw away any notions that there can be anyone who isn't fit and proper.

Bolton Wanderers existing owner, Ken Anderson, isn't exactly what you and I would call 'fit and proper'. Bolton's previous owner, Eddie Davies, had already written off £200 million of Bolton's debt when he sold the Club, leaving them more or less debt free. Nevertheless, Anderson saw fit to borrow a further £5 million from Eddie Davies, just 4 days before Davies died. www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jan/09/bolton-ken-anderson-efl-ownership-forest-green-christian-doidge

However, if they do get wound up not sure they would be able to do the old Phoenix rising from the Ashes. Debts are considerable more than those owed just to HMRC. Bit of a double edged sword. Having said that, not been to the Reebok for over 10 years (since I started bringing my lads to the Meadow!!)

The Reebok Stadium has been renamed twice, 1st to the Macron Stadium and now it is the University of Bolton Stadium.
The University of Bolton is rated 126 out of 131 in The Times 2019 University Rankings and Table. Mind you, Glyndwr University is 129!

I’m sure that if all the clubs who are currently either technically bankrupt or living well boyond their means were dealt with in the way that they should (ie wound up or demoted down the divisions) then well run clubs like Town would certainly rise by quite a few places through the divisions. For sure we would have got automatic promotion last season as Blackburn wouldn’t have been where they ended up, a complete miscarriage of justice if ever there was one.

I notice these universities sponsoring stadia and professional sports teams. I see the huge debts incurred by those wanting a higher education, many of which will never be repaid. I read stories of university teaching staff engaged (not employed) as educational piece workers, earning well below national average earnings. I hear of rich benefactors making astonishingly huge endowments to a small number of Oxbridge colleges and other elite establishments. And I can't help wondering what the f*** is going on with our higher education system.

That has been happening since they began. Philanthropy and education have always gone hand in hand, from Oxbridge colleges (some of whom are very large landowners) through to Church schools in poor areas.

Very true. It used to be said you could travel from St John’s College, Oxford, to St John’s College, Cambridge, without crossing any land not owned by one of the two. I don’t object to philanthropy, though it’s no substitute for proper state funding, and targeting it towards particular research work is very helpful. I’m not so keen on ego-massaging, ostentatious endowments, especially when the families of the rich benefactor also benefit.

My wife went to New Hall in Cambridge which renamed itself Murray Edwards after a large donation.
I think changing the name is a bit OTT.
But then that is where we got famous names like Keble College and others.
I always find it amusing that Yale in the USA got stroppy with Yale in Wrexham over the use of the name, when it was the same Mr Yale who was from Wrexham!
The good news is the Oxbridge colleges are quite up front about it
