www.shropshirestar.com/news/transport/2019/03/26/450000-cuts-could-see-shropshire-bus-services-slashed/i am retired and we are a one car family so i use the bus a lot, i tend to get the ten ride pass for park and ride or the £4.40 day saver which enables me to use the buses to and in shrewsbury all day whilst i appreciate that the council is in an incredibly difficult position and has to make saving this proposal makes little sense. "the park and ride group ticket, which allows up to five people to travel for £2.50, would no longer be issued." as individual tickets will go up to £2 i cant see a car with five people paying £10 when they can park in town for £3.60 "Rural services will be reduced." i would imagine the elderly , people who cant drive due health issues will be left even more isolated. pollution /congestion i would imagine both will increase pupils "under the proposals a number of school services for non-entitled pupils will be removed. These include the 405 Oswestry town service and the 37 from Meole School to Weeping Cross." i would imagine more school runs by parents and more congestion around schools

Impossible here - we were reduced to zero some years ago. I don't know how those with no or limited car access are expected to cope. Remember when Theresa May said the right things about the scourge of loneliness? What's happened since then, apart from endless cuts to anything that moves? The short-sightedness of our transport policies, nationally and locally, are enough to make you weep.

Unless you're travelling alone, using the park and ride would make little sense - until they hike the parking charges of course, to compensate. What an astoundingly stupid proposal.

Thankfully all these day to day problems will be a thing of the past once we throw off the shackles of Europe, take back the sovereignty of parliament and start controlling our own budgets and spending!!!

I really can not understand Shropshire council cutting Bus services. I have a lot of complaints about East Cheshire council but the bus service is great, with some running until midnight and all day sundays, They do seem to realise some money as to be spent on people that need transport to get around plus it helps stop congestion. Between Shropshire buses car park charges and lack of work on the shopping centers its becoming far more attractive to go to Chester.

This is just a classic example of how day-to-day politics has suffered as a result of wasting two years agreeing nothing on Brexit.
I think it’s time that local authorities called central government’s bluff and set unbalanced budgets. If more councils did a Northampton, the government would be unable to put it down to simply bad management, they’d be forced to act on the shocking cuts they’ve imposed over recent years.

It is totally ridiculous. We have no buses to Shrewsbury here so I won’t be able to visit the wonderful newly done up Shire Hall when all the money has been spent on it!!! Booooo.
Why is it the public can see how stupid these things are but once these members of the public become councillors/MPs (delete as you feel fit) they lose all sensibility and don’t give a toss any more?
Answers on a postcard please.

Since 2010 cuts from central government to local authority budgets have been savage. Therefore it's no surprise to see this kind of thing, together with all the other huge cuts to local services over that time. If people keep voting for a Tory government this kind of thing will only continue.

a rather misleading title for the article , as the council will provide some short term funding for some service but are looking to more funding from the goverment since they lost the bid for more funding that seems does not very hopfull www.shropshirestar.com/news/local-hubs/shrewsbury/2022/04/15/council-steps-in-to-save-bus-services-across-shropshire-after-operators-announce-cuts/"Shropshire Council said the bus companies had been forced to take action and said it would financially support a reduced service from April 23." "Where the council can step in with the funding it currently has available, it has done so and provided support for these services until early September 2022." When support runs out for these services in September 2022 it does not necessarily mean that the routes will cease, the council said. "It simply allows the council a period of time to reflect and identify any alternative solutions to encourage new passengers as it looks to Shropshire’s future in terms of public transport." While a reduced service it will still provide a significant number of journeys for current users and residents until September 2022." we have been able to provide some temporary support for some of the services that Arriva were looking to withdraw from, and we are hopeful that this period will allow for us to understand what funding may be available from Government in the future."
