also shows that minimum tinkering when performance wasnt bad does the trick doesn't prove anything really does it ? had we made 4 changes, who knows , we might have won 5-0 we won at Peterborough , made 4 or 5 changes and played great v doncaster it does back up what sam said 2 weeks back , that playing midweek was having a big effect on his team selection with niggles and fitness issues I think some fans owe him a bit of credit after the chants the other week of not knowing what hes doing it would be nice to hear them being positive towards him next week That said, since Docherty came on and gave some support to Whalley down the right performances have improved. So it could be argued that the fans were right. I believe it was a turning point, it has made Ricketts play his best players and its paid off.

Great win today and can’t fault Ricketts in any way at all with the lineup, starting 11 and subs. Although we must not forget that Southend are a horribly poor team.
Love how Fejiri takes his chances early which is always likely to catch keepers off their guard in this league. As for the second goal Southend must be embarrassed. Just prior to the corner their defenders were all over Williams, who was clearly just a decoy positioned under the keeper in the six yard area, and no threat at all, only to leave the free scoring Waterfall vacant on the penalty spot for the attacking header. Absolute mugs!

Not sure we have had too many "routine away wins" this season, so I thought it might be something to celebrate. I stand by the point that the losses or draws attract more attention, you only have to go back a few pages to quantify this, Portsmouth was an exception due to the overall performance. It is plainly obvious that certain posters have nothing to say unless there is a negative point for them and their clique to grasp hold of. They must be squirming at their keyboards this evening looking for a smidgeon of misfortune. It takes a real person to stand up and swallow their pride.

What so the winless streak in early 2019, the baffling tacticsl decisions and all round lacklustre displays are all forgotten now because we won a game against a weak team? It's natural that people have less to say after a game like today. They don't need to vent but they're not exactly going to be petitioning for an open top bus victory parade either. I think you need to get a bit of perspective mate.

I know my perspective is way out of kilter about being positive with 3 points, a rare away win, and some misguided positivity, shame on me in this era of doom and gloom.

Just got back. Thank you to the travel club for getting us there and back safely. An interesting game, a bit scrappy at times, some opportunities not taken. All played well, all made some mistakes, but we won and won comfortably well don't Town!, Hopefully this will help with the team's confidence and we can get enough wins to be safe. My choice for MOM was Waterfall who defended well and played his part in the clean sheet and of course getting the second goal with one his headers. He was also the majority choice for MOM on the coach. Good to see Rickets come out with a big smile and praise each team player and clapped the fans. The fans were noisy and played their part too. All in all a good day out and enjoyable game. COYB

Pleased for the fans who made the trip today. A big confidence boost too for SR, his methods and team selections. Very early days and he needs to beat Sc***horpe to maintain momentum and ease the pressure.
I think Sam is a 'Thinker' rather than a 'Tinker' and it's taken both the players and the fans a while to see the results. I'm sure we're all much happier tonight. Two more wins and we're safe.

Less to say after a routine win over a very poor side. You can't really expect people to be effusive with praise just because we beat one of the weakest teams in the division. Very pleased with the result though; credit where credit's due, that was a 6 pointer. You can only beat what's in front of you and we did so comfortably. i agree but for me relief that this time we manged to beat a team below us.

Ricketts played our best 11 in a system that suits them best. We won.
Don’t be too clever. We’re League One not Man City. Keep it simple and we’ll be competing at this level next year.
End of.

Some observations from Swan constabulary:
1. Early in the first half it was still an even game. Southend managed to get to the by-line and cut it back, only for Omar Beckles to brilliantly clear it from our own six yard line. Great in isolation but what I couldn’t understand was Exkeeper punching the iron pillar, beating the ground and generally howling like a feral polecat as if the most dreadful thing ever had happened. He really did go on and on.
2. This won’t be a surprise to our more normal fans, but some of our orcs really don’t withstand scrutiny.

If you had asked me before the Wycombe game if I would have been calling for his head I'd have said no. However, having our two best players and top goal scorer on the bench which resulted in an awful performance was hard to defend. I felt for him when he came to clap the fans and was booed. But since then he has set up the team to put in two decent performances. His task when he took over was to keep us up and then rebuild in the summer. He is on track to do that. Hopefully with a full preseason and his own players he won't feel the need to make so many changes. I like his attitude, I just hope his philosophy isn't too idealistic or complex for a small club in league 1!

Well done Town. Just what we needed. Keep it going! yes they did well but we beat a team below us who had prior to our game not won a game in 11 weeks, Southend asked very few question of town, in a fairly even first half and whilst we improved through the game, the tipping point was the goal, Ferjri was clinical and took his chance well as did waterfall. town looked a lot tighter in defence but Southend were rather predictable and offered very little threat.whilst town can only beat the teams in front of htem we have managed mess up such games far to often this season, let us hope at this crucial time we have broken the habit. next week is an opportunity for points against a struggling team, for me can we repeat a consistent performance, will Ricketts pick the same team(norburn may be a doubt) and play the same formation. can we beat another team below us ? which town will turn up?

Really important win yesterday - with our away form and ability to drop points against struggling sides was a bit worried about the match, but by the sounds of the commentary and highlights looked quite a comfortable win. Defensively Southend looked all over the place at times and we made the chances we got count which hasn’t always been the case this season
Still very tight at the bottom but do seem to be a few sides in free fall heading down the league, so a couple of wins and draws should see us safe hopefully

Not a brilliant game by far but we thoroughly deserved the 3 points. Away support was superb as usual, but why do a lot of the away grounds persist in bunching us all together in a tiny corner of the away end ? Some of the 'shorter people' around me had a very restricted view. And I didn't see the first goal go in because of a roof support pillar obscuring the goal line. We are one of the more welcoming sides who let away supporters more or less stand/sit where they wish. COYB

Our goal difference effectively gives us another point over a few of the teams around us – but actual points would be better!
