I agree with you NWM, what a depressing read. The Gillette Cup was a cracking 'cool' competition in its day, so please ECB don't insult our intelligence or try to make out that you are bringing it back because you're not.

To be honest, I was far happier when we had the Gillette Cup, the Benson and Hedges Cup, the Sunday League and more County Championship Games than we get nowadays.
I've never attended a 20/20 game and never will, as it's not proper cricket, though I do admit it does draw the crowds.

To start off with it was good fun but sadly my last 2 games (both at Old Trafford) have been spoilt by drunk louts, whose language has been disgusting and their behaviour totally unacceptable for what is supposed to be promoted as a family evening out.

Yes, I believe the Worcester/Warwick T20 games suffer from the same problem.

I can distinctly remember a Test Match in the early 1970s where some guy was thrown out of Headingley for turning up in a fancy dress costume. Well, the wheel has certainly turned full circle now. I was at Old Trafford in 1995 when Cork got his hat trick against West Indies, but my whole day was ruined by some character in a Martian suit jumping up and down in front of me whilst being egged on by his inebriated mates.
From that point onwards, I only watched Test Match Cricket from the Members Area at Edgbaston, which meant me having to sign up as a member of Warwick even though I was also a member of Worcs, the team I support. That still left me crossing my fingers that I wasn't allocated a seat behind a chain smoker or pipe smoker, so I'm very grateful the law has now changed! But to watch the game from the Hollies Stand would be my idea of hell.

Some one sided games in the Royal London one day cup today! Not one close game. Excellent win for Worcs against Lancs, but I do worry that they are lacking a spinner, with Moeen playing for England and Twohig out all season with an injury. Perhaps they can persuade Somerset to loan them Dom Bess, who doesn't seem to be getting games with them. Absolutely hit the nail on the head there. We have needed a top class spinner for two/three seasons now. Maybe Bangladesh would release Shakib to play for the Pears so that he can get in some 'practice' on English pitches before the World Cup !! Good all round cricketer and a nice bloke to boot.

Agreed, but no matter what the 'true' cricket supporter says the ECB will never listen to us. It's become just like football now, where everything revolves around 'making money', and very little around the spectators input. I think a lot of the Counties were unhappy with this 'new' 100 competition, and probably quite a few players as well, considering the amount of time each season they spend away from their families during the season. As the saying goes "everything has a price", and I think the Counties were bought off by the ECB !!

I still have my 4 days of County Championship Cricket at Rhos on Sea to look forward to later this year!
A throwback to fifty years ago played on an out ground, most of which don't seem to be used by the Counties nowadays.

So we now have to wait a month for the next round of county championship games 😕 with white ball cricket again taking precedent. I don't think that's cool 😕

I know they had the chance to back it or not, but I am sure I have heard - or read - the insinuation that some of their funding from the ECB would be cut if they didn't go along with it !! And in all honesty the Counties would find it extremely difficult without that funding.

They already changed their rules just because a non-English player looked quite good and don’t want him to be nearly 30 when he plays.

Clarke back in the groove today.
139 out of the 197 Notts scored while he was in.
Lancs taking another 300+ hammering.

Pattinson 5 in a format that doesn’t suit his strengths too. If he’s fit and firing he is up there with the best in the world.

A glorious spring day. A bank holiday weekend. And not ONE 1st class match is being played today.
Well done ECB.

Roy Bairstow Hales Root Morgan Buttler Ali Archer Rashid Woakes Plunkett
That would be my XI. Plenty of seam, plenty of spin and 6 proper full time batsmen. Plunkett for Willey if he’s not fully fit. Always preferred it when they line up like that and Hales is too good to be left out for the likes of Stokes who isn’t that good at the best of times but he’s way out of form.

Bad luck with injuries for a couple of England hopefuls.
Sam Billings is out of the Pakistan/Ireland games, and probably also out of World Cup contention, with a dislocated shoulder. Ollie Pope will miss most of the rest of the season due to the same injury.

Leaving Stokes out for a batsman leaves you very reliant on getting 10 overs from almost all the bowlers with Root the only change option. Given Plunkett’s decline (and he often didn’t bowl 10 anyway), Moeen and Rashid’s inconsistency, Woakes’ injury issues and Archer’s lack of experience it’s a very bold move. Besides, Stokes averages almost as much as Hales with the bat, isn’t a liability in the field (quite the opposite) and gives the fastest and most aggressive bowling option other than Archer. I know you don’t like him but there’s no way he’s being left out.

Hales has been removed from the provisional squad owing to the current ‘situation’ around him.

James Vince back in the fold. Big opportunity for him to secure a world cup spot.

Good - him and Stokes should have been bumped off a while ago. There goes my team. Bring in Vince for Hales!

I wonder where Clarke is now in the thoughts of the guardians of morality, the ECB. Stokes excepted of course.
