Next game coming up is huge, win and confidence will return and lose physiologically we will find it very hard to get out of the mess.
It is starting to look as though Bradford will go and I suspect Wimbledon will even though they have picked up recently.
That leaves two more places which I think will be between us, Rochdale, Southend, Walsall,Sc***hrope and Accrington.
I think Accrington will go as they are in free fall, which leaves 4 other teams for the final place.
Bristol Rovers, Oxford and Gillingham have all picked up results so I don,t see them in the mix.
For me if we lose next Saturday then we will go down. Southend have not won in 11 games so there are no excuses.
There is no point in looking at what the other teams around us are playing as we need to put a winning run together.
We have been poor for most of the season so if we carry on this trait then we deserve to go down.
As I have mentioned in past postings Ricketts needs a right hand man and for me I think this will be his down fall.

Southend have not won in 11 games so there are no excuses. Other than we're Town, its what we do. If ever you're on a bad run, you know who you want to be going up against... Huge game, no doubt about it. As are the other six. Four of them against sides who are within touching distance. Have no idea how its going to play out. Have no confidence at all that we have it in us to get out of trouble just hoping we can pull something out of the bag. Seen nothing of late to suggest we're heading in the right direction. The only thing that gives me some encouragement is that we are going up against others who are also clearly struggling. Maybe they're as pants as we are, maybe we can just about make it because of that... I guess I'd take a draw now against Southend. Respect the point and all that, as I doubt the sides down there struggling will have too many of them to share about in the run in...

I was just about to say the same. How many teams have had that sort of record nail they come up against us?!

With so many teams in the mix for relegation its odds on that there is going to be a lot riding on our last match of the season at home to Walsall for one or more likely both of us. A sell out likely.

Even though I'm desperate for a win, I would actually take that! I know the old cliché is to 'take one game at a time' which is probably true but I'm looking ahead to our next three games who are all against teams in the crazy mix that we currently find ourselves in, against Southend, Scunny and Gills I think we will need a minimum 5 points out of those, the most important thing is not to let a relegation rival beat us and gain three points over us but unfortunately we've been doing that all season so far...

I'd say that this game is of such vital importance and yet so far away that it might be appropriate for the Club to offer free coach travel to maximise the support at Roots Hall.

Southend's last 14 games:- LLWLLDLDDLDLLL. W1 D4 L9. The one win was at Bradford. Wow. If we lose this then surely time up for Ricketts and just let Danny and Eric have the reins for the remaining games and hope the team can react well to them again like they did in November?

3 clean sheets from 19 away games so far this season.....not holding my breath on this one although I’d certainly take the scoreline!

This certainly isn’t a MUST WIN game, but we do need to pick up probably 3 more wins from somewhere. But it most definitely come into the MUST NOT LOSE category, as is all the games against teams in the bottom half at present.

I see Walsallfans are already talking about the last game being massive. Tickets go on sale Monday... 5.30 pm kick off time couldn’t be much worse for policing 😩 upthesaddlers.com/t/shrewsbury-game/2557

Let's hope they persevere with Powell until Saturday. We don't want the possibility of a new (caretaker) manager bounce. Three points at Roots Hall would be a real tonic.

Given our terrible away record, the number of teams so close together in the relegation scrap and the fact there'll be 6 games left after Southend, this isn't a must win game as such. Their recent record counts for as much as Rochdale's did when we played there.
A draw would keep us above them and we've still got those 3 crucial home games to come. Even if we lose, it won't be over. Makes no sense to ramp up the pressure too early. We could win at Southend, think we're on a high and not win again.
Time for cool heads and steady nerves.

Rochdale's last 14 games before playing us resulted in 10 points.
Southend's last 14 games have resulted in only 7 points!
But since sacking their manager, Rochdale's record is W2 D1 L0. All at home mind you, whereas 3 of their next 4 games are away, with a home game against Sunderland sandwiched in between.

That's 3 points to Southend then.
Like Rochdale, why couldn't their chairman hold off for just one more week before sacking him? It's always us that seem to be the next cab on the rank after these characters are sacked!

Widnes gave Rochdale a 50 point pounding on Sunday - I'm glad one of my teams knows how to win there!

A few stats going into this game which, together with Chris Powell having left this week, just make me more nervous about how we might do tomorrow.
Southend are winless in their last three league games against Shrewsbury at Roots Hall (D1 L2).
Shrewsbury have won each of their last four league games against Southend, conceding just once and scoring six goals.
Southend are winless in their last 11 League One games (D4 L7), the longest current run in the division.

There is that, but we have a very irritating habit of screwing up spectacularly when things look to be well stacked in our favour.
