I don't think it's as simple as just comparing records head to head. Askey had a preseason, he recruited the bulk of the squad. Just in case we need reminding he spent £600k on transfers. Ricketts has not had such a luxury although he did have the January window to work with.
Askey or Ricketts?
Neither is a winner in my books.

As an aside, if you've got Sky Sports, you can see Shrewsbury's Lee Angol jogging up and down the line for Lincoln as a sub.
Latest score : Mansfield Juan, Lincoln Nuffing.

This thread has got to be a joke! I seem to recall a load of vitriolic threads aimed at Askey while he was here and the cacophony of abuse he had to put up with at games was horrendous and now you're saying he wasn't so bad, results were improving etc. Joke!

Juan Juan now. Angol an unused sub. Sat by elbows Rhead, who is a well used Subway looking at the size of him.

John Askey proved that he was a tried and tested manager. Lowest budget in The National League last season and won the league with Macclesfield by around ten points. Incredible achievement for such a small club. John Askey had a huge task ahead of him after the achievements of Paul Hurst. He was in a no win situation. Very few teams replicate a previous manager's success. Time is what managers are rarely given and unfortunately that was the case. For me Askey!s biggest failure wasn't given Fejiri Okenabirhie a chance. Eric Ramsay and Danny Coyne did and he has been a revelation. Last week I watched Port Vale defeat Yeovil. Port Vale played superb passing and moving football, something which could have happened at Shrewsbury if time was given to a proven manager. Sam Ricketts on the other hand had a great run of form at Wrexham and that is all it was. Nothing won like Mr. Askey! Applied for Shrewsbury manager's post and gets it, why? Sam Ricketts was a decent player but inexperienced manager. His record tells a story. He doesn't know his best team. Which stands out like a sore thumb. My opinion at this level you play your best eleven players every game and bin the diamond as it does'nt work. Personally Arnold in goal Defence William's, Bolton, Sadler and Beckles Midfield Whalley, Docherty, Laurent and Grant Strikers Okenabirhie and Campbell. You don't need a rocket scientist.

Ferji played in 9 of askeys 17 league games, and didnt score once I think the main discussion at the time was why hadn't we signed a recognised striker ps rocket science is easy give me an office chair and a fire extinguisher and I'll show you the basics ;-)

Saw Mr O score a hatrick against Tranmere though his first goals of the season albeit against a very poor Tranmere side who were playing 10 reserves but on the back of it askey started him in the next league game, dropping Angol who at this point had scored 4 times for us but never scored again not sure exactly why askey is getting any stick over ferji

Still, Angol certainly hasn't made the breakthrough with Lincoln. He was on the bench last night with Matt Rhead. Rhead was brought on (albeit in the 93rd minute) whereas Angol continued to bench warm. 2 appearances from the bench is the sum total of his contributions so far.

Maybe the Lincoln supporters chant 'you don't know what you're doing' at the Cowley brothers if there's any sign of him being brought on!

when Askey joined Port Vale looking at there forum the fans feelings were mixed to say the least,he joined a club on a losing run and in some turmoil, whilst there is a long time to the end of the season and anything can happen.last five games one loss two wins and two draws, Vale are currently 20th but in the form table they are 10th www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/john-askey-port-vale-simcock-2658286"The club was losing games, sliding down the league and struggling for goals. When he then lost his first four matches our situation seemed even more perilous. We were unlucky in some of those games and we could see some signs of improvement, but I would never have believed we would have gone on to be unbeaten in the next four matches, winning two and drawing two. It's not just the eight points either, it's the way we played in those back-to-back home wins over Mansfield and Yeovil when we played some really exciting, attacking football. The manager has done all this without signing players and deserves great credit. I am certainly a lot more positive than I was when he first came in." i know both managers divide opinions but just on progress over time , Ricketts cam to a team who looked to have turned a corner and started to win , Askey joind a team going down the table on a losing run.

No point Fej being on the pitch if we don't play to his strengths. You could also say the same for Campbell.

For Fej: 4 of those games were NOT in the league, totalling 265 minutes, at an average of 66 minutes per game. Which means 387 minutes over 9 league games at an average of 43 minutes per league game. For Angol: 3 of those games were NOT in the league, totalling 100 minutes, at an average of 33 minutes per game. Which means 884 over 12 league games at an average of 73 minutes per league game.

Angol is absolutely awful, as are AAH & LJL. None of the three are League One standard, arguably not League Two in a couple of their cases. If any of the three are here next season i'll be seriously disapointed.
Fey however, does have the potential to be a decent enough Championship striker you'd think. He's a damn good finisher.

That's the point! "We played well but didn't score enough goals"....Er. Well we didn't play well then did we....? Absolutely. Pretty sure this was discussed a number of times during Askey's tenure. At the time there were one or two who seemed to have forgotten that scoring goals is a rather an important aspect of the game. When Askey started off the question was "where were the goals going to come from", he never answered that once. Playing well and not scoring ain't playing well when its near on half a season.

Adkins and Alex Neil also very similar. Were running tightrope and chorus of calls for sackings. Look what consistency gets.

No the situation is not crazy. I’m afraid he doesn’t know what he is doing. Another bad appointment. He might have been a decent player but he can’t manage. Time to go and quick. Get Coyne and Ramsey back in to keep us in league 1. I guarantee that will be a disaster. I've held my tongue on quite a bit that I know about C&R but they would not have a clue. Credit to them for not changing much in their few winnable games they had in charge.
Rebuilding a squad that lost its best 7 or 8 players is not a quick fix. What I do know is that JA would have continued to churn the squad window by window while more than balancing the books.
