does anyone seriously think we will sack two managers in a season ? I didn't think the club would get rid of a manager only five months in charge after undergoing a major squad rebuild and after only 21 games. At the start of the season I would definitely have answered no, but now I'm not so sure.

SR has taken on a squad of players and is doing his best with what he has been given. What more can we expect him to do. Coyne/Ramsey certainly got a lot more out of what they inherited. It's far from unreasonable to expect Ricketts to be doing better than he is.

There are several references in this thread to Ricketts having to work "on a limited budget". Where has this piece of information come from or are people just making assumptions?

Thanks.
That explains the club's policy regarding transfers, but I don't see where it indicates anything has changed since last summer or anything is different in this transfer window? It appears to indicate that the club struggled in terms of players wage demands and I think that has normally been the case due to the club's wage structure policy.
In lieu of anything substantial to the contrary I would expect Ricketts to be able to go out in this window and pay fees for players, there should be enough capacity in the wage budget due to the players that have left this month to cover wages within the club's wage policy.

Of course he was’t. Askey was, but we successfully hounded him out.
Only a matter of time.

No. Wanted Hurst back but not to be.
Hope we don’t come to regret it but would love to be proved wrong.
We might as well as preserved with Askey than bring in Ricketts but let’s hope for the best.

No one will ever know if he was the right man for the job but he wasn’t exactly inspiring everyone with confidence, although Ricketts wasn’t my choice either, I wanted someone with proper L1 experience after Askey left but we always go for a cheaper less experienced option, Ricketts likes his teams to be well drilled and organised but on the whole the football is pretty depressing to watch at the moment... not letting the sensational Stoke comeback paper over the cracks at the moment.

It’s not unreasonable to think that a full time manager should have got us to kick on, but we are far too inconsistent. There are some pointers such as him being quicker to change in games, and improving Haynes that show there is signs of encouragement. This side should not go down, so long as he keeps us up, he can have another window, and pre season and we can asses again in November.

"But, although financing deal could prove difficult, Ricketts has not ruled it out. After all, he is looking to trim his squad and that could help facilitate such a marquee signing" from the star with regards to signing Edwards this may be were it came from ?

I'm not sure Ricketts will be the answer to be honest. Askey definitely wasn't. The best I think we can hope for regarding the remaining eighteen games is to grind it out. The worry is as erratic as the teams below us are, they all look capable of ten pts out of twelve somewhere along the line. I'm not sure we have. Will be very interesting to see the team sheet for the Bradford game.

We just need to stay up and get a full pre-season with Ricketts under our belt and go from there.
Incredibly tight in the table at the moment.

I was fortunate enough last week to have 5 minutes talking to a current Town player and I brought up the subject of whether or not he read the message boards or local media, which he replied he doesn't tend to bother, which I replied I don't blame you. I would also assume that our erstwhile Manager takes the same approach as this is the sort of ill informed, speculative, negative rubbish that cements the aforesaid players mindset.

You say, this side should not go down - I'm questioning on what basis that is? Because we've got a pretty slow set of centre backs, a bit of an inconsistent midfield and strikers who don't score. We're also still trying out different formations to try and work out what works best. We haven't scored in open play in around a month in the league and have 1 win since November. Meanwhile several sides below us are winning

However we still have 3 out of 4 from the defence that finished 3rd last season. Plus we have an attacking full back that gives us greater options. We have enough quality it just needs managing. The midfield is inconsistent (maybe not grant) but the players available (particularly grant and Docherty) are very good, and have enough talent to be much higher. The strikers are our weak area, but I bet our strikers score more than the strikers did last season. The rest is about management, E.g. formations. In my opinion the talent of the playing resources we have available should not go down.

He is doing a good job so far to compare himself to John askeys way of life at Shrewsbury town this season, we took another punt with a unproven manager with John askey taking Macclesfield up so he arrived here and didn’t end on a good note.. so we took another punt with Ricketts who was doing really well at Wrexham fair enough.but we made the same mistake twice in the same season with unproven credibility in leagues 1 or 2 , the club said it had over 60 applications when askey left maybe they could of shared them out and done voting poll like they have with power league bar name maybe we couldn’t of got the right man in ! .. for me these bad managerial appointments are going to take us back to league 2 !... I’d be more encouraged if we made some proven signings this January but so far just gamble signings they worked under hurst so maybe the club still has theory who knows.... oh well least we are still in the fa cup which we are taking seriously. we had an amazing result on Tuesday night today we got a good point away to 8th you'll probably still be moaning if we dont beat wolves next week after all, rickets has had 2 weeks now to bring in some amazing players on a limited budget Limited budget! Our wage bill is lighter now, have sold another player for cash and still have a over 2 million kicking around from Lidl, Woods and the summer sales. Hardly like the Jake King era.

As for the question. F00k knows, I'm not an expert, but if we go down, I expect an immediate return. We've done it before. If we go down we won’t bounce back up again for a long time, if anything we will probably do a ‘Orient, Tranmere or Chesterfield’ and freefall from League 1 to the National League very quickly.

So that's Jules, Kennedy, Gnahoua, Hendrie, Morris, Colkett, Coleman and Emmanuel all off the books. Loft and Jones surely out of the door soon too. Plus LJL won't be likely ever to be seen in a Shrewsbury shirt again.
And in comes an injury prone reasonably expensive 32 year old, a player who can't play for us til next season, a young forward who apparently runs around a lot but didn't score 1 League goal in half a season on loan with Oxford, and a goalkeeper who was rejected by us when on trial 6 months ago and who has attracted less than complimentary comments from fans of his ex Clubs.
We haven't scored a single League goal in the whole of January. Rickett's League Record since joining us is W1 D4 L3.
Unless recruitment improves drastically, we have every reason to be very worried.

If we get relegated it will be mostly askeys fault. He spanked all the budget in the summer and then through his man management and tactics he enabled the teams confidence to drop.
This squad is a lot better than performances suggest. We should be nowhere near the bottle 4.
That said Rickkets has had a very very tough run of games since coming to us. I'm more than willing to give him time to bring in his own players and time to see how it develops.
I dont think we will go down.

Now that is worrying. Even if we got loans in to booster numbers. Looking very thin in defence especially if he continues with 3 cbs.

We’ve just beaten a Championship team away from home in the FA Cup and got a draw away against a top 8 team ....

We’ve just beaten a Championship team away from home in the FA Cup and got a draw away against a top 8 team .... And before that we got turned over at home. Saturday was average at best, could easily have been a loss had Blackpool not hit the bar. As is so often the case a cup win is masking poor league form. One win under SR, no league goals in Jan and one point off relegation...getting very 02/03 with people not waking up to the fact we are in trouble. Failure to sign a decent forward in this window would be a cause for concern.

The club has let several players go over January, with very little brought in except for DE who isn't fit. We're looking a bit thin on the ground...a if we pick anymore long term injuries we're in deep trouble. We need a proven striker, I don't think anyone would argue that point.
