On the face of it underwhelming, but i'll reserve judgement on him until he's played a few games for us.

See the Transfer Window thread. Sorry I didn't go through every thread to see if this is mentioned elsewhere. It's not like their is so many new threads a day that creating one for when I player signs disrupts the board.

Very underwhelming. Cheap option too. Let's hope he will be 4th choice and we will be bringing in a decent partner for fey.

Maybe a reference to Angol but Ricketts says about Smith
“He’s a relentless forward and that’s an important trait if you want to be good. I have seen him chase down lost causes, he’s left footed and can score goals"

Having watched him play at Reading a few times last season I am very underwhelmed. Yes he will chase everything down and chip in with a couple of goals, but I don't see how he's going to make any impact with us.

Be interesting now to see if AAH and Angol drop down the pecking order.

Probably get a first look at him next week in the reserves vs Bournemouth.

In my opinion Ricketts will be delighted to have got this deal over the line.

Thought he was a singer😂😂 There is a singer called Sam Smith, so you’re along the right lines, but it is a different person. Suppose his names are fairly common so quite an easy trap to fall into!

Thought he was a singer😂😂 This was my first thought but when I checked on the Google machine I realised it was a different Sam Smith.

I would have preferred Sam Surridge from Bournemouth, but I'm not convinced either are the type of signing we need in the midst of a League 1 relegation battle. Marc McNulty is also at Reading and has been transfer listed, that would have been a good loan signing.

The last striker we got on loan which had been written off by Oxford fans was Tyler Roberts. Suspect it's wishful thinking but let's give the lad a chance to see how he turns out.

See the Transfer Window thread. Why? if we sign a player I’d expect a new thread otherwise you wouldn’t know we’d signed one without constanly checking the transfer thread...

Because there were already about half a dozen posts in that thread discussing it when this thread was started and it's where Ipswichshrews first posted about it. It's not a big deal, personally I just think it's easier to follow the conversation when it's all in one place.

I quite like a separate thread when we have actually signed someone. I guess I’m just lazy!

So we go from...
Sam is a young player who works incredibly hard and obviously has ability on top of that as well. He has a great attitude, will have a good character around the training ground and he works hard.
...to this...
He spent the first-half of the season on-loan with Oxford but it didn’t work out for whatever reason.
Just made me chuckle that.
Anyhow, we know that football is a funny old game, could work out as a masterstroke. Ricketts certainly comes across as though he knows a fair bit about the lad so hopefully he's seen something in him...
Of all the positions we're looking to perhaps address its up top that I find most intriguing. I think it's where we are at our weakest. So be interesting what part he plays, be interesting to know whether that's the last of the ins and outs in that area...

Just seems like another striker on the cheap. Hope I am wrong but can't seem him being the same quality as say a Carlton Morris.

Just read the interview with him and he certainly keeps good company in that he spoke to Dean Henderson and Ben Godfrey about coming here.

Still time for another signing, this one is the LJL replacement "“Sam is a young player who works incredibly hard and obviously has ability on top of that as well. He has a great attitude, will have a good character around the training ground and he works hard," said the Town chief.
