I wonder if this drive by clubs, by reducing the price, offering free tickets for children ( if accompanied by an adult), et al does actually work. Have clubs seen an increase in youngsters attending matches on a regular basis. Maybe statistics from our own club can bare this out. Years ago, my lads would take themselves off down the Meddah, by bus, and go and watch matches with their mates, all of whom were school age. With a few pounds in their eager little hands, they paid at the turnstiles and picked a spot on the terraces. Now I doubt they would be allowed in to watch Shrewsbury, unless accompanied by an adult. Would they be allowed to purchase tickets for themselves if 12 or 13 years of age, or a tad younger. Of course there are no longer areas of the ground where they can just turn up and congregate, modern grounds are too sterile for this.
But, it struck me that this free tickets for kids initiative is not a ploy to encourage children to get into the habit of watching football at their local club, ( if they are interested in football they would naturally gravitate to going ) but a lot to get adults to attend.
Clever stuff.

Sorry for late reply, yes this will be on SP agenda for next meeting due to the feeling around it. Know Brian is tied up with the end of the window now, so will try and leave him alone for the next 10 days, we are also working on powerleague and something for Saturday

That they have. And there are big plans afoot for this weekend I cant say much about.... at the moment a lot of the time is focused on helping the club and community team with the ex powerleague bar. If the SP were not around you would be watching salop play in a clip art badge in a blue kit, with no fanzone, kids (6-12) paying for tickets and no option to use safe standing, among other things. Any hope of getting in some bottled beer at the Power League for Saturday? They'd run out of bottled beer for the Charlton game, as their contract was with the Salopian Brewery, whereas I assume the Club's is with Woods. So clearly they aren't ordering any more. But technically the Club doesn't take over until February 1st. Please save me from vile keg Boddingtons if at all possible! why would they bother for their likely last day ? we'll probably be drinking jagerbombs by 1pm as it will be the only alcoholic drink left having already started running the stock down last game, this unexpected game will probably be a little dry , ( lager and cider whilst it lasts is my prediction) and then we get inside the ground and find chaos as those usually more interested in other games on a saturday are gathering around the only tellies left working , at least they won't know they have been broke all season

Clever stuff. That's how I started to watch The Town in the 80s as my dad hated football. Never really thought about that before. I wouldn't be able to have watched them now. Luckily for my kid I still like going to matches so he's had his entire childhood going to games.

He keeps repeating that if there is anything the Club can do to improve matters then they'll try to do so. Hmmm. Let's start by only allowing season ticket holders to purchase their own seats and nothing more. For some reason, he thinks they should be entitled to extra tickets. And once again he admits that Ticketmaster is not fit for purpose, leaving many supporters to be obliged to queue in the cold. I doubt 'discussions' with them will improve matters one iota. It's ok for a ST holder to go down to the ground for a league game to purchase tickets for a friend but not for a big cup tie. I will agree that 4 tickets is too much but being able to purchase an extra adult ticket or 2 extra tickets for children would've been fine in my books. How many extra tickets have been sold in the East stand for corporate businesses this time.
