Atrocious. Far worse than any performance under Askey that I saw. We made Charlton look special, even though they needed a defensive blunder for the first goal and a gifted penalty for the third.
The height of all round ineptitude was as comical as it was painful - us playing them in on goal, them rolling the corner behind everyone giving Laurent a clean break and the whole pitch to go at, only for him to over hit it amateurishly and give the one defender between him and their goal an easy clearance into touch. What an advert for League 1 football.
And what sort of team uses an unnecessarily over- complicated short corner routine twice and gets caught offside both times!? So clever, that.
Docherty, whose form has dipped alarmingly, watched a ball out for their corner when he had an age to clear it.
Even the ball girl threw their player the ball quickly when he called for it and caught us out with a quick free kick! Maybe Ricketts should start the rebuild with a session instructing the ball girls!

Cannot believe I have done a 200 mile round trip to watch this tripe.
Mr Arnold saved us from an embarrassing score line and Haynes was excellent.
Other than these two the rest were poor particularly second half.
Mr Ricketts needs to get a grip otherwise Tuesday could be a similar experience for all of us.

To be honest I had a bad feeling about this when I saw the Star decided to do a feature on 'fortress Meadow'.

You know that annoying t**t at work? The one who was born in Shifnal but "supports" United from his armchair, and makes hilarious "I don't know why you bother!!" comments every time the topic of football comes up, even though he's only ever been to about six actual games? Well, today was the sort of day to make you wonder if perhaps he's got a point after all. For every 10 Charlton at home today there’s one Charlton at home last season!

It’s not looking good. Several new players required in January to have a chance of staying up. Today was absolutely shocking. I could see in the first ten minutes we needed some width. The worrying thing is that this has been obvious for weeks. We barely score any goals and have so few dangerous attacks. 4-1-4-1. I’m not Gilliaed’s biggest fan but let’s play him on the right, put Beckles back in at LB, and maybe Haynes on the left wing for the time being until we can bring somebody in. I get the idea of trying to shoehorn all of our best players into the starting eleven but we can’t persist with this midfield diamond, it doesn’t work. beckles back at left back?? He’s been shocking there all season . No wonder GT is your god .

One of the main differences between last season and this season, in terms of the full backs, was the amount of protection they had in front of them. The 4-1-4-1 last season meant Bolton and Beckles were protected by Whalley and Rodman whereas this season they are far more exposed.

Gilliaed in particular does nothing defensively when he’s one of the wingers.

And I’d make sure he has a contract past this season(if he hasn’t already) , we’ve hardly seen him at center back . Same with Antony grant . Get him signed up for another year NOW , and build the team around them .

I thought we were the better team until the first goal. We played the long ball to Holloway who won most of the headers or played some nice passing moves. Once the second went in it was all over and they lost shape and confidence. Haynes another very good performance after keeping Ince quiet against Stoke last week. Oki looked lost.

I hate to say this, because I don't like running down our players, but Waterfall looked slightly worse than Robbie Turner.
How hard is it to kick a slow running ball coming into the penalty area away for **** sake. Yet he managed it at least twice. Once for setting up the second goal.

Also the absolute Moron that sits in block 15 row L who was standing up applauding when Charlton scored and won the ball is an absolute disgrace. This individual is not a shrewsbury town supporter just a t****r who likes the sound of his own voice. Many of us are disappointed at the performance and loss, but we accept it, go home ( or to the pub) and have a beer and we will return at the next match supporting the team on. There's no justification for the booing, the team will obviously feel bad enough at the loss without having their noses rubbed in it. Onwards and hopefully upwards COYB That display of petulant exhibitionism showed up a t**t of the first order. He needs to find something else to do with his Saturday afternoons, if he can’t hack it.

Without looking at the stats it seems Ricketts is on a far worse run than Askey ever was.

Arnold- some decent saves, but bloody awful distribution Haynes- out of position too often, but no surprise with his lack of help. Poor delivery. Waterfall- slow, disorganised. cr@p Sadler- see waterfall Bolton- shocking distribution. Too predictable. Grant- his worst performance Docherty- not good. Norburn- overrated. Criminal standing with your hand up instead of running the ball down. Over inflated ego. Laurent- cr@p Holloway- not good enough. cr@p. Okenabihrie- no service. Expected to deal with high balls. Poor Gilliead- offered very little. Edwards- no impact (no time to), except for his groin. Angol- get rid. (And take Holloway and Laurent with you) Ricketts- why on earth he is persisting with this s**tty formation is beyond me?? I’ve said it for weeks- even when we were winning. As for substituting Docherty before Laurent??? At least docherty can score and puts himself about. SR needs to buck his ideas up, because his current ones aren’t working Another one that knows nothing, Have a close look at the team and what’s going on, criticism is fine if you actually know what you are talking about. This Docherty can’t do anything wrong and he’s better than everyone else is beginning to p**s me off. Some players are out there fighting, when the going gets tough he goes missing. FACT!! We were poor today, everyone AFTER the first 30 minutes, when we were the better side. You need to stop coming to games and stay away, you obviously don’t enjoy them.

the big difference between the teams ,was charlton had a plan they did the simple things well ,they attacked with speed and variation and when they came forward they looked a threat.
in contrast Town looked shambolic in defence and clueless going forward, the inconsistent performances and poor form that has been a part of far too many games this season continues.what is a concern was that tactically we did not seem to have a plan B.

Worryingly I think we were set up and played better football under Askey and significantly better under Coyne than we have since Ricketts arrival.... Docherty and Norburn are good barometer, players with great skill, effort and football brains who rarely disappointed yets played well below expectation since Ricketts tipped up.....
Most fans were saying we had the players we needed but weren’t getting the results under Askey, step up Danny who achieved 5 wins in six with the same team before Mr Ricketts arrival now we’ve got a team with no skills or spirit with most saying it’s down to Askey poor recruitment and allowing Ricketts to hide behind this. I don’t think the players are the problem!
Hope I’m wrong (I usually am so there is hope)

I don’t buy into all this ‘it’s askey’s team’ nonsense. Paul Hurst inherited a turgid squad, yet managed to turn things around swiftly. Plus SR has had almost two weeks in the transfer market, and his recruitment has been poor.

It's very early, but listening to Ricketts full interview after the game,he doesn't come across as a man who can identify the problems we have. With "what we have" I'd be looking to go three at the back now. Haynes can only be a full back for two reasons. He can't really defend and the cover further up the field doesn't exist. Whalley would be my right wing back. Works hard. We're also over loaded in the centre of the pitch. We can then play three of them. It all depends on funds and player's he has already identified . If there is nothing done by the end of the coming week it will be a "blagging" day at the end. That will mean we're down...

As for Hurst turning thing around swiftly, whilst he did very well, it took him until the last home game to go to confirm our safety. It was a success but he wasn't quite the overnight sensation some people claim. In fact his first 10 (league) games were:
W 3
D 2
L 5

If SR needs any further evidence that Waterfall isn't up to the required standards, then a viewing of the full video for this game should suffice. Even the highlights pick up as to how he was taken apart by their number 18 Grant.
But it's not just lack of pace. Other than winning headers, his basic defending is open to question.

Those starting stats were a minor miracle considering the **** he inherited from Mellon. Only one of those defeats you could describe as inept with the rest being reasonable performances in defeat. One of which was only losing 2-1 at Sheffield Utd with nine men. Only a month before they had beaten us 3-0 at home prior to PH’s arrival. I’d take that sort of managerial inspiration right now to get us out of this decline and I can’t see it coming from the present incumbent.

They've already wasted a good few hundred thousand on the Askey experiment then decided on the unproven Rickets route oh well I’ll waste my money and continue to support home and away but-can see more low confidence games coming up and pressure building. Not what I want and who knows we might beat Stoke and push for the playoffs after bringing in the elusive 20 goal striker, left back center mid and flying wingers..... was that a flying 🐖

Disappointing display from town but very impressed with Charlton. Not just skilful but full of running and passion. The likes of Williams, Taylor and Grant really showed what we are missing. Hopefully Angol will watch a video of the match and see why Taylor is such a good striker.
