So Dave has returned to lead us on the path to glory , our knight in shining armour , our Messiah . I like Dave a lot , was genuinely pleased to see his career progress , to see him play top flight , to see him play for Wales , brilliant . But really , even though Dave wanted to come back home is he want we want right now . Is he single handedly going to save us cos we need saving . I remember people jumping up and down over super Lukey Rogers returning . I would absolutely love Dave to be our savior but is he what we want . A serious question , not being critical of anyone but would be interested to see what others think .

Such a shame that he got injured today and yes he looked very rusty.
But after today I’d 100% say we need people like him, who actually care and will not disappear when the going gets tough. People think he might struggle to get in our midfield, after today’s performance from all four I think I could get in it.

Biggest mistake is , should not expect too much from him yet, but got too say our defence is shoddy to say the least, and please a striker who knows where the net is.

Anyone thinking one player, any player let alone DE, could come on today and turn around that absolute shambles is deluded. I don’t think there’s any doubt he’s a good signing, will contribute and will atleast show some effort and passion unlike many around him today, let’s not let an appalling result and performance affect our thinking on his signing.

Dave Edwards is not the reason we have fallen back into a relegation fight.
We all know that.
Dave needs time to get match fit and we will then see his true value to the team and the club.
What worries at this moment in time is that we had a bloated squad that is now being trimmed, we had quantity but no real quality in reserve and so how do we shake things up with what we've currently got? The team near enough picks itself which is worrying.

Not as if Edwards can be considered 'the missing piece', I think we all know that the problems go beyond looking to swap one in and one out of the midfield. He is a welcome addition if he is able to keep injury free and give s a decent amount of playing time but I doubt anyone thought he could come in and turn things around single handedly; for two reasons, the problems go right through the team and (as much as I am pleased he is back) Edwards ain't that good a player to do that on his tod...

I’d have Grant, Docherty, Edwards as the three in midfield.
You wouldn’t ever see any of those three putting in 70% effort.

he has hardly played recently and played less than half the league games since 2017,so he is going to be rusty he will need to adapt to league 1 and get tuned into players he hardly knows. he looked to be holding his groin so i hope he was not injured.
no matter how good he is it will need more than one player to stabilise things, tactically we did not adapt to a game that was going away from us.

Putting sentiment aside we have just brought in an ageing, injured and passed his best midfielder.
This is not what we need whilst in a relegation battle.

He'll be a real asset in our League 2 promotion campaign next season.

Whatever we think about DE's fitness, he's an upgrade in quality on Laurent.
We need DE's experience and quality and Laurent's energy and fitness. The we could then sell the composite for a million quid in the window...

Of course he’s past his best, otherwise he wouldn’t be here. But his best was in the Premier League and reaching the semi final of the Euros, not League 1, so it’s all relative.

Or we’ve brought in someone who cares about the club so you won’t doubt his effort, experience and goal scoring potential from midfield. Theres different ways of looking at it I guess.

It's great that Dave Edwards is back but for me the timing was wrong, it would have been better to do this in the summer, but maybe this was a one off opportunity in this transfer window and we would have missed out if we hadn't done the deal. I just hope he doesn't become a distraction over the next few months.

I’m surprised that we have given a two and a half year contract to a player who is nearly 33. Especially in light of the length of contracts offered to younger players like Ogogo, Brown and Rodman.

I remember being at Leyton Orient away when Rodgers made his second debut . The mess turner had got us into at the time , I remember us only naming 3 subs I think , could have been 4 . I think the only outfield player of any use on the bench was Dave Mcallister. So at that moment in time any body would have done . This time around , I don’t really know why they have signed Edwards . It’s the one and probably only position on the pitch we have got some quality .

I would except him being passed his best as long as was at least fit to play to make a real difference on the pitch. Let’s hope he can do that.

A half fit Dave Edwards still made more runs (hobbles) into the opposition penalty box than any of our other players today.

Came on for the last 13 minutes and still managed to pick up an injury by the looks of things, think we’re going to have to be very patient with getting Dave back into the team regularly.

Devils Advocate here - if we waited until summer would be have wanted to come to League 2?!!!! Good question, but it seems Dave is just happy to be back here whatever league we are in, his family and business is based here so it seems this is a decision with his long term thinking in mind.
