Awful game and awful goal to concede. How that ended up getting through to him I've no idea.

We won’t win the penalty shoot out with Coleman in goal - and if Angol is selected to take one, he’ll miss

Good experience for the youngsters but we have far more important things to focus on, like staying in League 1.

Would have been a bit more money in the bank when we got to the later stages but can't say I really care about going out.

With Sunderland, Pompey, City B and potentially Chelsea B in the last 8 I’m not sure if we’d have got much further in the competition anyway, whereas last season we were fortunate there weren’t many ‘big clubs’ left in the latter stages of the competition and the draw was often kind to us anyway especially when we got Yeovil at home in the semi fnal. Think we are probably better off out of this at this stage and not just saying that because we got beat.

Disappointing team selection from the Manager Personally say it was spot on, play fringe and youth players, exactly what this competition should be used for

Disappointing team selection from the Manager Not really, why waste the ‘better’ players tonight? Vale made 1 change in comparison to our 11 and could still only beat us on penalties, they’ll probably get dicked by Citeh B in the next round.

Thank goodness I won’t have to go to Wembley now. Seriously, hoped we’d win, but glad youngsters seemed to give good account of themselves.
I agree tha I don’t think we’d have got much further anyway.

People paid to travel there after the manager said he would take it seriously. Well Sam you are taking the p***. I struggle to remember a more inept performance against a very poor side. One positive - you seen the reserves in action now so all that remains is to show at least half a dozen of them out tomorrow. We had no idea how to do the basics and some of our lot would get outmuscled by an under eleven team. If you intend to Chuck the game, please tell us before we part with our hard earned cash. It is not often I have said this, but tonight I was ashamed of my team.

Did anybody really want to go to Wembley this year? Have no problem with the team selection for a number of reasons.
Young players got a run out and did alright against a full strength Vale.
Older players who had a chance to stake a claim for a spot didn’t take it and the new manager will be another step closer to knowing who he wants in his squad going forward.
First teamers got a rest after the Christmas period- not necessarily because they needed it (although some definitely did)- but they will all be in training tomorrow and be able to plan for the much more important upcoming fixtures.
