Welcome back to the club Dave Edwards.
To me this is much more than just having an old player back at the club that has played at a higher level, with hopefully a year or two still left in him but who might miss a few games through injury (as he always had throughout his career).
To me this is much more about the longer term future of the club. I've no doubt that as well as a player DE will quite likely help out as a coach and quite likely be a future Town manager in years to come. RW will no doubt be looking as much as that as his next year or two as a player.
To me today is very much like for those of us with a long memory when we resigned Chic Bates. Think DE will be in a similar mould (though he is unlikely to cletter quite as many keepers as Chico did...........)

proven goalscorer? I dont think we should be expecting much more than waterfall manages as far as goals are concerned hes not that type of player according to the marvels of google 3 goals in 32 appearances 2017 to 2019 my concerns are is fully fit and even if he is 32 appearance out of minimum of 72 games( just the league) would suggests he is going to be a bit rusty

On behalf of the sadly deleted Jeffrey Kl8 and fellow salopians. Welcome home to the contract abstainer. Nice to see he's signed this one. When did KL8 delete his account?

Decent record from midfield that.

Ricketts and Edwards will love that draw against Wolves.
Unfortunately, as a result of AAH missing that sitter we still have the small matter of Stoke to get rid of.

On the face of it, this signing ticks so many boxes. Local boy, history with the club, stellar playing career, still got something to offer, all round good egg. And one of us.
And yet, what does it actually give us that we don’t already have ? How will this improve us as a match day X1. What’s the game plan at the end of 30 months ? How much of this is Ricketts ‘playing to the crowd’
Love Dave Edwards, and genuinely hope this all works out but please let’s not get all dewey eyed about things. In any other circumstance we’ve signed a 32 year old injury prone midfielder

But in the short term it's hard to ignore the romantic element of it, and it's undoubtedly exciting, so I'll stick with that feeling for now.

It could work out and be brilliant. It might not but can’t see a problem with bringing in somebody who’s got such experience and a vested interest in the club. Taking away the ‘romance’, who was the last player that played for us who has played at that level for such a period of time.

I mean Doug Loft has the touch of Nedved and the vision of Pirlo. But just lol.

Dave E's week just gets better and better, completes signing for the club he wanted to go back to, then, Stoke permitting, get's a potential game against Wolves. A iottery ticket for Dave this week.

If this isn’t dave Edwards and it’s just another player , there is no way we’d sign him . Hope he stays fit and retires here a legend but we’ll see . If nothing else it will pull all the crowd together abit and unite the club , which I think was needed . If he stays fit we have a good player . Also think he should be handed club captaincy as the shop is now injured .

That means Grant,Docherty or Norburn being dropped for Edwards. Edwards is a very good player at this level but I feel there are other places where we really do need to strengthen before CM e.g GK and LB (Winger and striker too). If we can strengthen in those weaker positions then there won’t be any complaints from me though.

Dave joins Town on a two and a half year contract.I really, really do hope he can stay injury free. If so this could be a great signing... my thoughts exactly. He has hardly played of late and rejoins us due to his name and not his current ability. 100% I don't get the overwhelming noise over this signing and I really hope that he earns his stripes and that we are not all playing on emotion. He hasn't played in a while, 33 soon, so I don't think he is going to be the box to box player he once was. Earn a place in the team.

Hear what you're saying; Dave has been a hard working player through his career and I have no doubt that will continue at Salop - but you're right that he'll have to earn his place in the team. The overwhelming noise is that there is little romance left in football, even at our L1 level. Players are rarely with the club for more than a couple of seasons and it's difficult to build up a rapport anymore. There is no such thing as a one-club player. Although Dave has played for other clubs, he has consistently shown his support for Salop. He was a mascot for the town before he turned 10, he used to go on the Junior Blues bus to away games following Salop and he even played for the Shrews Away Supporters team. He's one of our own, and that's what makes this signing so exciting.

Really pleased he has come home. Can’t remember us signing a bona fide supporter of the club, especially one of such pedigree.
Having heard that lot belting out the Rueben Neves song at the custard bowl last night & given DE’s unfortunate connection with em, how about.....
We’ve got Edwards Davie Edwards I just don’t think you understand He’s a proper Shropshire mon & a proud Salopian We’ve got Davie Edwards

That's the difference we get with Dave Edwards over any other player, wherever he is, on the field, on the subs bench (tonight at Port Vale?), on the training ground, doing his coaching badges, wherever, he will always be Shrewsbury Town.
