A curious piece of transfer activity, had an excellent game in the first leg play off semi at Charlton. Don't understand why we let him go to Wycombe and bring in Loft and now he is off to Portsmouth and we retain Laurent? Some odd transfer dealings in the last 6 months, we let a keeper go to Portsmouth who is better than we what now have now and our forward options, the less said the better. We have spent money, or so we are told, some of it poorly inc Hurst, Hendrie and Jones to name but 2. Ricketts talked a good game when he came in, BC and RW need to back him this month with some quality additions. Absolute madness, SR had better have some excellent new players coming in before the end of this month otherwise we look as if we are in deep trouble

Self-defeating nonsense. Cementing one of Askey's mistakes permanently. Our retention of last seasons squad has been a cross between reckless and idiotic. The fact we're letting a young player like him go to another L1 side (Even a big one) whilst appearing to only being able to sign players who know our manager is concerning.

Unbelievable, a better player than Laurent and Norburn.

Never really cemented his place when asked to deputise for an injured Ogogo or made it difficult for a manager to keep him in the side for me, that's just my opinion though 😉 The fact is the lad is out of contract in the summer so who's to say he'd sign an extension even if one was offered? I'm sure we'd all then be happy to see him walk away for free!

Joining another ex Salopian who really should’ve featured more, Craig Macgilivray Have to have played him out of goal then, Henderson was a worthy number one

Good Luck at the top of the division. A clear sign of a good player when both the top two wanted his services.

I don't accept that Morris doesn't have more potential than half the squad currently at our disposal. And I don't trust our current manager's judgement over that of Gareth Ainsworth and Kenny Jacket. I'm waiting to see the same potential in Laurent, playing every week, as in Morris. The next Jordan Clark.

Decent player who we never got to see the best of imo
Certainly good enough to have a positive impact on our current squad even if he didn’t start every week.
Very good move for him to a team & club on the way up.
Would guess that SR is more than aware he would be an asset but that as the player himself wants to move on it is therefore best he does so now for all parties concerned
Good luck Bryn

The best ball playing midfielder at our club in my opinion.
Added to that, I haven't seen him continually moan at team mates, or not be @rsed to chase a ball out before it goes for a throw. Or grab the ball out of a team mates hands when awarded a pen like a 10 year old.
I get he's out of contract in the summer, but I wonder if we offered him something, or the management think Norburn is the answer?
Whatever other people may think of him, he had a successful spell at Wycombe and two teams who may well be in a higher division next season wanted him. So, if he's good enough for teams chasing the Championship, he must be good enough for us.

That's debatable. Spoke to alot of Town fans last season who( as much as we all loved Henderson ) thought he was lucky to keep his place mid season. He was Jacketts first signing and he sort of knows what he's doing. Well I hope(pray) Ricketts has got something lined up or were in deep s**t. What worrys needs is if there was something on the cards why is it not already done. This new keeper is a worry as it feels like desperation to me.

Only from the point that Henderson would never have been a town owned player, the ideas some people had that we would sign him had we gone up makes me laugh even now, so potentially we could have avoided this circus had he played more of been offered a better deal. Go cheap. Pay twice.

Terrible business from the club.
No doubt he'll turn into a very good player, certainly much better than some of the dross in our squad.

The best ball playing midfielder at our club in my opinion.
Out of interest, how have you come to that opinion?
When I think of good ball players in recent years I think of Nolan & Woods, players who were always comfortable on the ball, they managed to find space when no one else could, they could keep it simple or could spot a gap that others couldnt. I cant recall Bryn doing that, theres not many (if any) games where I can think of him running the game from the middle. In fact he reminds a bit of Laurent in that I'm not sure what type of player he is, I dont see him as an enforcer like Grant, a playermaker like Woods, a box to box midfielder like Edwards etc.
Bryn isnt a bad player at all and if we had kept him then I'd be happy with that. But the thing for me is theres been loads of comments in recent days saying our big issue is trying to accomodate all our central midfielders so why the big deal over selling one who hasnt been at club for six months?
For me the reaction is partly the usual story of a player becoming ten times better when he's out of the team/leaves and partly down to where he has gone to, ie a team at the top want him so why dont we, plus when we arent doing well on the pitch then those are magnified further. There wasnt much of a reaction when he went to Wycombe but obviously now there is lots of 'what is going on'?
Personally I'm still hoping that the trimming of the squad is down to us investing in other areas where we are lacking, although the incoming keeper is hardly helping that argument.

From watching him. Nolan and Woods aren't here anymore, so I am comparing him with what we have now. And I've always rated him, from the first game I saw him play. My posts on Morris have been consistent in my disappointment if he ever left. I was disappointed when he went on loan. Finally, he could well be playing in the same division as Woods and Nolan next season. Maybe not Nolan mind.

Fair enough, all about opinions as they say, just cant say I've seen anything in games to see him as a good ball player. I mentioned Laurent and I'd put them in the same bracket in that can't recall too many games where I've been impressed by them, actually you can put Norburn in the same bracket too.

The sale of Bryn is a big mistake. As NickO has stated he was a ball player who had a range of passing that no-one else has at this club.
As a team we need to keep the ball better and use it better, Bryn Morris is that type of player. I don't see that in the current crop. You only have to look at Norburn's blind back pass on saturday.
I can live with Morris moving on if we have better players at the club, but I don't see that we have. We have an abundance of midfielders which we are shoehorning into the starting 11, yet we still cannot control the game from the midfield.
For some strange reason Askey never gave him a chance and shipped him out on loan. Now Ricketts has got rid again without a ball being kicked.
Good enough for the best in league 1, but not for us, doesn't make sense!

I think, as stated above by somebody else, Bryn Morris abilities seem to have multiplied tenfold simply because he hasn’t been playing for us. The result and performance of Saturday is tainting peoples views, I’m throughly p**sed off with Norburn not chasing that ball going out for a throw and think he needs to up his game big time, but not for a second do I think Bryn is the best ball player at the club. He had some good performances for us and some very average performances too, really don’t see the big deal personally, good luck to him.

That view is not tainted by saturday or a warped view of his ability from not being here. I'm not saying his is the answer to all of our problems, but the fact he has not been given a chance puzzles me. After the departures in the summer of Godfrey, Ogogo, and Nolan, he would rightfully have expected a chance to establish himself in the first team, and I expected the same. I haven't seen anything from Norburn or Laurent that is any better. And the signing of Loft.......Really!!!!

The timing of this move is certainly a big factor in how it is being received coming as it has on the back of Saturday’s inept performance. Unfortunately it has coincided with Norburn, Docherty, Laurent & even Grant to a lesser extent playing well below their capabilities. It is an exaggeration of his performances with us to say he was the best ball player however he certainly possesses a decent range of passing. The key difference between his departure & the others who have left in this window is the clear potential he has to improve further & play at a higher level. The others are all either disappointing loan gambles or squad players who aren’t (potentially yet) of a league 1 standard SR is under real pressure to get his recruitment right & get this season’s better performers back up to their optimum levels ( & quickly) For what it’s worth I think he will....

Maybe it depends what you mean by a ball playing midfielder but to me, and perhaps nicko, it means a good passer, first and foremost. I believe Morris was the best passer at the club last season and I haven’t noticed a better one arriving since then. Why the big deal? I think you answer your own question. He hasn’t been here for six months. We didn’t make a fuss when he went on loan because we hoped the new players might be better. While he was away, we’ve seen all those central midfielders fail to produce a consistently effective unit, culminating in Saturday’s debacle, while Morris has helped a smaller club outperform us, attracted interest from the top two and now signed for the league leaders. I don’t care about accommodating all our central midfielders, I care about the quality of the team. I think we’ve just lost an opportunity to improve it.

Unlike those not bothered by his leaving, we’re also not assuming he’s the same player now that he was when he played as cover last season. He wouldn’t now be joining Portsmouth if that was the case, would he? Comparing last season’s Morris to this season’s midfielders makes no sense when we’re talking about whether he could have helped the team now.

Let's look at the midfielders now on the books:
Norburn - Club record signing. Very average, have not really come away from a game thinking he can play at any higher level.
Grant - Very steady. Carried the team for much of the early season. Wrong side of 30.
Walker - Weird signing given he's gone straight back out on loan.
Edwards - Great to have him back. But, like Grant, he's getting on and is not fully fit/injury prone.
Laurent - Very hit and miss. Similar to Norburn.
Doc - Gone off the boil a little in the last few weeks. On loan anyway.
Loft - N/A
Would you honestly say Morris was that inferior to any of them? His age and fact he was contracted to the club would have made him a better option than some IMO.
Hope we got a decent deal for him. But since June giving a town manager money has sometimes felt as wise as giving an arsonist petrol.

He was probably the best all round midfielder at the club. He could win the ball like Grant, could run hard like Laurent, Pass like Norburn and Create like Docherty.
Just a shame that Non-League Askey or Ricketts didn't rate him.

Extremely unlikely he wouldve signed again considering recent events his loan rightly or wrongly. So not only have we got a better fee now than a measly tribunal fee in the summer but we will also have a sell on fee. Great business imo.

You can't claim it to be "great business" without knowing how much the transfer fee was. In the circumstances, I doubt that was very much and probably not much more than any "measly tribunal fee" would have been. As for any share of a sell on profit, we could have got that via tribunal as well. I agree it was unlikely Morris would have wanted to sign a new deal here but my immediate concern would be to make sure we stay up this season before worrying unduly about that. But then Town's midfield is a "strong area" according to shrewsweb ….. Someone tell our opponents because they don't seem to have noticed that for a while.

The transfer fee's hardly likely to be substantial though is it? In which case it wouldn't really matter much if we got a lesser amount via tribunal instead. And if Morris got in the team, performed well and we stayed up, it would be a cost well worth paying. The point is we could have treated Morris more positively since last summer and certainly since he returned from Wycombe. We didn't, we haven't, he's gone and that's that. It's a good move for him now, no doubt, but you won't convince me that we're doing well out of this.

If we had sneaked a young and highly regarded midfielder from under the noses of Portsmouth, who has done well in league one this season, then we would all be well chuffed.
But we have done the opposite.
