I always find it sad when community pubs are lost. I don't remember most of these, the information about them is on the left.

This was my favourite, sadly no more. Good job it's closed, I'd spend far too much time in there.

I hold a great distinction in this pub, (stop me if you've heard it).......oh, alright then, I am the only person to have their nose broken by a native American in the Black Lion. We were sat in the lounge area. My soon to be lawful wedded dragon, noticed a mask of said native above where I was Sitting Bull...sorry, sitting. The wooden carving had a superb nose, which nearly touched his top lip. So the dragon decided it would be very jolly if she put a beer mat between the fine nose and lip.
Unfortunately for me, the nail holding the mask on the wall had eroded over time and Sitting Bull came crashing down hitting me full on my very small nose.
Any road up, you lost any pubs lately?

Yes it can. But make sure you act quickly and get the paperwork in order, or the time will lapse.

This old pub must have been full of rugby types. It was down a side street and owned by the blacksmith next door. There was another blacksmith opposite, and apparently it was quite common for them to be brawling in the street. I know it says there wasn't any problem there, but it was frequently by non desirables who liked to keep their head down. I think the solar panels were a later feature.

Perhaps Telford and Wrekin Council would prefer the tenants to reinstate the original fittings and then close the pub once more. Not so long ago there was a barricade of steel fencing surrounding the building. If the local inhabitants do not use the pub why should they get upset when the place closes down?
There used to be a pub The Swan at Frodesley that closed because of lack of trade yet the locals were up in arms when the loss making landlords wanted to convert it into a private dwelling.

Maybe it's hard to believe but the big island in Frankwell used to be a mass of terraced housing with little alleyways, outside toilets and wash boiler rooms. If I remember correctly the lighting was gas !! My first locaL was THE CROSS GUNS which was a great little pub. Also in the vicinity was THE MALT SHOVEL, but they both disappeared when the housing was knocked down to alter the road lay-out. That left plenty more pubs in Frankwell borough though THE SWAN (I think that's gone too), but The Wheatsheaf, The Anchor, The Bucks Head, and The Crow stayed open after the road was altered. I know The Wheatsheaf and The Bucks Head are still there but are the others still operating ?? And they all used to serve 'PROPER BEER' and not his stuff that passes for beer nowadays........ OH HAPPY DAYS, OH HAPPY DAYS !!!! as the song goes.

Wolverhampton and The Black Country have suffered badly. In the Bushbury area they've lost a load. The Butlers Arms, The Bushbury Arms, The Woodbine, The Three Tuns and The Vine all gone.
Nearer to my neck of the woods, The Stables in Craven Arms is now an Indian Restaurant.

Sadly we lost the Red Castle in Harmer Hill recently, due mainly to the landlord's I'll health. Very badly missed.

Was led to believe that The Cleveland Arms scenario wasn't so much that the locals didn't use it,they did, but more of a case that the owners, who had bought the pub a few years earlier, then decided that they could make more use and money from it by simply closing down and converting the property into a very large and substantial house and use the bowling green and part of the car park to build a couple of houses !

I believe the big pub companies now have active property companies to go hand in hand.

The Railway Museum itself has closed but now has part of the House on Crutches Museum oppposite. The lease was up and the Society couldn't afford to buy the property. Still worth a visit I should think. The Society has a web site which will give further info.

Montgomery lost two. Forgot the Juan in the Juan in the square. The Cottage closed as well. It was an Indian restaurant for a time, then hey Prestwick, Monty's Brewery took it over as their visitor centre. Not a bad drink is Monty's, you can buy their beer here as well.

For a while it was called Biggies & was run by Jake King's son amongst others.

Hare and Hounds at Cruckton, home of Cruckton Rovers. Standing room only at Sunday lunchtime, probably very sparsely populated during the week. The Belvedere., a traditional “man’s” pub. Popular bar, darts, dominoes, no carpets and a lounge bar which seemed to only open a couple of nights a week. Tankerville at Longden, Lea Cross Inn, The Bridge at Dorrington , the list goes on.

Minsterley has three pubs in about fifty yards but two have now gone. The Red Lion and The Railway at Pontesbury, and the one alongside the railway line at Yorton.
