Season long loan deals have a recall option in the January window.

Very unlikely. Although Rangers seem pleased with his progress, they will want him to stay with us and develop further.

I truly hope he stays but if he is recalled I hope they do it in good time for us to at least try and find a suitable replacement.

I am a Rangers fan but have always looked for Shrewsbury results and been to several matches in my time living in Shropshire for several years. It is more than just fan rhetoric and Steven Gerrard has stated he is monitoring Greg's progress. It is pleasing for us Rangers fans that he is playing well for you hopefully the loan will benefit both clubs. Our fans want him to progress and develop and hope he returns to fight for a place as he is local and a Rangers fan.

He is doing really well just look at the Barnsley thread on here to see how much we think of him. We are just hoping that we can help him progress for the whole season and not just until January!!! We are trying to become a club where players with the right attitude can be sent to progress and improve. So far, so good.

Season long loan deals have a recall option in the January window. We were panicking over Deano last January because of this!

I’d be worried if a manager wasn’t monitoring a loanee’s progress so that means nothing. Well look after him and he can come back to you next year 👍

He has to be playing regularly to improve and impress, that could be the catch for him.

In my opinion our best player, closely followed by Grant. Both these guys set the tone off the ball & Docherty is just as good, and important, on it. First name on the teamsheet for me in that No. 8 / 10 role & it would be an almighty blow if he was recalled.

I don’t think he’ll be recalled in January, I think he could do a similar role to Arfield in the team but he needs games and won’t get them if we have a full squad fit. Hopefully town can press on now after a false start to the season.

thisisfutbol.com/2018/12/blogs/gerrard-weighs-up-ibrox-return-for-rangers-midfielder-docherty/Gerrard has revealed that he is considering the possibility of recalling Docherty next month. “It’s a tough decision that one. We love Greg as a person and as a player,” said Gerrard, as quoted by the Daily Record [09:55am]. “He’s very young, and it’s a difficult one to judge what is the next best step for him because he’s enjoying his football and he’s getting regular games. “From a selfish point of view, I could drag him back and have him here just to suit me but I’ve got to think about the kid and his future and what is going to make him grow the quickest to be available for Rangers on a more consistent basis. “We need to make the best decision that is going to help him long-term, rather than just what suits Steven Gerrard for a short-term fix.”

He is too good for our league and would do well at a championship club. That begs the question as to what level Rangers are in comparison to English clubs. I would put Rangers no higher than a decent Championship side so they must have decent midfield options if they do not think that Greg would feature on a regular basis.

He's class no doubt.
However I think we have a ready made replacement in colkett who has done really well in the reserves. We also have laurent because when Whalley is fit he will be out of the team.
I'd love him to stay though. It says a lot about him that after a man of the match performance yesterday he went around apologising for not scoring a half chance near the end.

Colkett has impressed in the reserves & Checkatrade but 3 managers have not fancied him for league minutes, I don’t hold out much hope he’s a ready made replacement for Docherty at all. Docherty himself is a class act & one we must keep to be at all successful this season but he’s also been hauled off on many occasions, even when needing a goal. To say he’s Championship ready is pushing it at the moment, so I see no reason for him not to stay here if he wants almost guaranteed minutes.

Colkett has had an injury and has had others putting in great performances. I think he had 3 assists the other night so I'm sure Ricketts is keen to see what the lad can do.

Colkett plays a different position doesn't he?
But back to Docherty and whatever happens the great news is with Docherty, Godfrey, Henderson and Morris we're clearly a good place for young players to develop.

He needs to up his levels of consistency to be anywhere near Championship material - that’s why he’s with us

Very inconsistent which is why I’d be surprised Championship clubs would be interested.

Also, as I despise this formation we’re playing it could be a blessing in disguise. We’re clearly playing a certain way to shoehorn all our CMs into the team. Personally I’d be quite happy to see a midfield three or Grant, Edwards and Norburn, Whaley one side and possibly Gilliead the other with Fey or a new striker through the middle.
