Should we as fans take a lead on this and badger some local businesses to contribute?
Develop a list of who we should ask and start barraging them with emails?
Could write a standard email to everyone, then get 10-50 of us to send it in one go?
Anyone interested in me getting something like this off the ground?

This really sums up the divide in supporter base. There are those willing to stand in the rain raising money for something they believe in, even if it doesn't benefit them personally. And then there are those who want to belittle them and make them feel like they're wasting their time.

Since there are so many clubs awaiting the outcome of the campaign why not invite them to contribute? An email to every club in L1 and L2 may prove more beneficial than badgering local businesses who would receive little or no benefit from the donations expected.

If I was going to badger anybody with emails and pressure to contribute then I'd look at Lidl whose presence near to the ground will be having an effect on some of the business inside the stadium - I'm sure there's somebody who could dream up a slogan to link both Lidl and safe standing in a sponsorship deal
Can anyone clarify the chairmans stance on the introduction of safe standing - failure to hit fundraising targets will or could be quite an embarrassment for the club amongst the other 91 league clubs given all the publicity the club gained at its launch. The question is will STFC make up any shortfall which at present may well be quite substantial

Yes glyn this would help immensely. As I've said before every donation makes a difference and gets us closer to our target

What's quite funny, (no, very funny), is the OP painted a negative picture of safe standing, and the thread has turned full circle and become positive!

Think this is where more clarity on the clubs role is needed. Getting sponsorship is a tricky business and needs relationships built up with companies and a clear description of what they get in return. Don't think the approach you describe above will work too well. I assume the club has already been in contact with a range of local businesses about sponsorship of the club in general - and indeed seem to have been pretty successful with it You don't want to go contacting businesses who the club are already working with and cause confusion, or who have already said they don't want to sponsor the club. Better perhaps to work with the club and see if an existing sponsor would be prepared to put in additional sponsorship and make it clear what publicity and return they get for that sponsorship Unsolicited requests for sponsorship land on businesses doors every week and are rarely successful and can end up in lots of work for little reward. Need a more strategic approach to it for it to be successful

Is there not a £25k super package that could be bought by a business? Permanent naming rights to the standing block, or a 10 year deal?

Cheers Ok but just be careful what the fans are offering doesn't conflict with anything the club already does. That stand already has a main sponsor whom are presumably paying the club a decent fee and their input on who else gets their name associated with it needs consideration. Might be a fan led project but fans don't own the stand or the new safe standing area so need to be aware of what the club is already doing in term of sponsorship or commercial offers so as not to clash

How about RW agreeing to allow the Wycherley Stand to be re-named and the money obtained from the new sponsor put towards the safe standing fund? Would be seen as a very magnanimous gesture towards the fans and effectively wouldn't cost RW a penny!

You can see what businesses are being offered via the Tifosy site and all this has been ok'd by the club. I think from my point of view anything other fans can do or arrange would be great to see (and means me and Rog can have a day off ;-) ) but in all honesty we are working really closely with the club and Brain has been superb with rewards etc. If anyone has a business who is interested but want something not on the rewards list get in touch and we can speak to the club.

Lol, I'll be the first to say I've had my disagreements with Roland over the years and at times don't agree with things we do BUT he deserves to have the stand named after him.... and even his harshest critics would be hard pressed to explain why he shouldn't

What about asking West Brom for assistance? They are supposedly intetested in being the first PL club to trial it so the money we need would be small fry for a mega-pound team from the PL and get them a step closer.

I think that donations of rewards from other clubs or businesses are key to this. We can only ask our own supporters to donate so many times, or as it maybe not. Is there any news in regards new offers. I was going to spread the word about the Brighton shirt but that offer closed (even though there was no obvious published end date). I was therefore wondering how successful this was and how it was promoted. I would have hoped the Utd one has raised a few quid as well. I also wanted to say well done to all those involved in supporting this. It is looking more challenging than I would have hoped but we will get there.

Having the Stand named after him removes a massive sponsorship opportunity just to satisfy his ego.... If a Stand was named after me (I know why would it) Id suggest it was offered up for sponsorship rather than satisfying my ego so why doesn't he?

Wouldn't expect a great response from local businesses. Lidl on the other hand as a sponsor would get great exposure if it were successful. "The Lidl Safe Standing" at Shrewsbury Town FC would be known in every town and city in the country. I have never known so many sponsors for different things at our club so one more wont make any difference. Personally if not sponsored I would still like the area to have a name and none better than the "Chris Smith Safe Standing".

Is there a danger that we may be duplicating what Tifosy have planned over the course of the next few weeks?
Out of interest, as deadline day looms, will Tifosy be cranking up publicity etc for this campaign?

I wish Tifosy would be a bit more forward in regards their plans.
I see from the leader board a few more names have appeared e.g. MU Supporters Trust, Bristol City, West ham etc
