It is actually a very good opportunity for JL as the other newly signed goalkeeper is only 21, and if he can get the first choice selection he should be behind a strong line up in this division, which would help him to settle.
Contrary to belief I do wish him well at his new club now he has gone.
Just because I have a footballing opinion about a player and his ability, it does not mean I dislike a genuinely nice guy who has been a credit with the community work he has been involved at Shrewsbury and represented himself as a good professional.

I still feel loss over this, despite the utter lack of chance that Leutwiler would play again having him at the club still provided that security with a safe pair of hands to fall back on if Henderson isn't as good as we thought and MacGilivray is another Halstead. Nonetheless, I'm happy Jayson can prosper and I'm sure that if Blackburn get promoted he will have a good spell in the championship and stay there well into his thirties. Good luck

Great news for everyone involved.
The club has managed to keep most transfers / player dealings quite, which in the case of JL has caused speculation about how he has been treated.
I wonder if we will ever find out if It had have been agreed at the end of last season that a move would benefit both the player and the club - and that they have have been working towards this together between holidays and international duties.
Either way it looks a good deal for both and whatever the transfer fee is does not matter to me but what is good news is that it frees up more wages.

Nice to see a player leaving with so much praise and assured of a decent welcome back to the Meadow with his new club.

End of an era with Leutwiler leaving, given that he joined a demoralised, just relegated club and was such a crucial part of the promotion team, setting the club record for clean sheets on the way. He went on to save us a lot more points than he cost us in League 1 - definitely one of my favourite keepers in the time I've been watching.
Good move for him and will make a change playing in what should be a winning team. Many thanks and best of luck, Jayson.
I wonder what our keeper strategy is? I'd guess the ideal is Henderson to have a good season and McGillivray to take over next season, with Rowley then our second choice and maybe ready to push for the starting position.
A lot of ifs and buts between now and then. Henderson may not be as good as we hope and, if he is, it's unlikely he'll be back next season. McGillivray was Walsall's reserve and may not make the step up. Rowley might follow Burton, Lewis and Springthorpe in being a highly rated young keeper who leaves us without getting near the first team.
If we had the choice to keep Leutwiler then, at this stage, I'm not sure it was wise to replace an experienced, international keeper with a one season loanee, particularly given the lack of experience throughout the rest of the squad. I'll be very happy if my worries prove to be unfounded.

With Rowley going out on loan to Tamworth who is our 3rd string keeper if our 1st or 2nd choices get injured this season?

If McGillivray were to be injured, I presume we couldn't bring in another loanee for the bench as we've filled the quota already.

Leutwiler has been a great servant to our club. I personally don't think he was quite the same keeper after that horrific injury, sustained ironically against Paul Hurst's Grimsby but still worth his place nonetheless. He's a player I really liked despite becoming increasingly frustrated by his poor kicking (something that hopefully his replacements can improve upon) It sounds a good move for him and I guess our club is happy and we move on. I've seen the potential in Henderson already but I'm sure there will be some ups and downs along the way. The king is dead - long live the king.

I did wonder with three keepers leaving in a week from the 1st team squad, could another younger keeper becoming in permanently? Someone who's for the future who Hurst wants to develop and push on to the first team in 12 months time? A keeper who is better than Rowley but one for the future?

A really good servant to us - good luck Jayson.
How many goalkeepers in the last 10-15 years have we now shipped on goalkeepers to higher league clubs?
- Burton - Loots - Hart - Thompson - Lewis - Springthorpe
Any more for any more? That's quite a number!

He was a 7/10 keeper for me, saved us more times than he cocked it up and on the whole he was decent enough. I hope he does well

Good luck at Blackburn Jayson. Promotion season in league two was really consistent and won us many points, shame last season didn't go as well but have a feeling in a few months we'll see this move as a big loss
Also much respect to him for the work he did with the Shrewsbury Town in the Community Charity - did some really positive work in schools over the last few years and seemed a really down to earth guy

Perhaps true enough that the injury took something out of him But another reason for lack of confidence could be playing behind some truely s**te defenders who have been shipped out

When there was a bit of interest in him after our promotion, he happily signed on with us for longer and said he had no interest in leaving, because he and his Mrs loved the town and he loved playing for us. Pretty rare that. So good luck to him. Great shot stopper with obvious weaknesses but definitely deserves to remain in League One.

Indeed, expected him to leave last summer when he was out of contract so was pleasantly surprised when he signed another two year deal, will always be highly regarded by myself.

A great servant for our club!
I too don't think he was helped by playing behind some shocking defenders and the injury against Grimsby but Paul Hurst sees us going a different way so we have to respect that.
Good also to see that he has definitely not been treated unfairly by PH and given the utmost respect, which I kind of expect from PH, and informed of the decision very early.
Good luck Jayson, you'll always be welcome back at the New Meadow!

Ironic how one guy on here claims he isn't good enough for the bookies favourites to go down yet is for the bookies favourites to go up.
Good luck to him, always came across well with fans and was one of our better keepers over the years.

Feel a bit sorry for Dean Henderson. He has big gloves to fill because in most supporters eyes Jayson didn't do much wrong. He is going to be compared to Jayson which is probably going to be a little unfair as he is a young keeper learning his trade. Prior to his bad injury Jason was probably the finished article and destined for the championship. I can see him doing well under the present Blackburn manager but its a bit of a risky move knowing who the owners are and the likelihood of another change of manager if they don't start well.

Nice guy and a fantastic shot stopper but other aspects of his game such as commanding his box on crosses/set pieces and distribution lacked. To get a presumably half decent fee for a keeper that wasn't the managers 1st choice (probably 3rd choice) is good business.

Perhaps that "belief" is re-enforced by your post on the previous page, snidely remarking that it wasn't a good move for Blackburn. The cheesy shmaltz in the last paragraph looks like an attempt at PR damage limitation on seeing how many posters found your obsessive vendetta against JL unpleasant although predictable reading. Maybe now we will start enjoying your posts again.

There seems to be something about Swiss sportsmen and women that make them credits to their sport and country. Gracious and heartfelt words from Jayson. As well as missing his shot-stopping, I shall miss those wide armed exaltations at every goal Town ever scored. I won't miss his kicking... but over all, I will miss Jayson. Now we move on and in turn I hope that Henderson and McGillivray have a blinder every time they pull on the keeper's jersey. That's what we always want from a Town keeper. Both will make mistakes; all keepers do, including those at much higher levels than League One. But if they win us more points than they lose us, they will have our support. And maybe one, or both, will come to love playing for Shrewsbury Town, and love the Salop fans, as much as Loots did.
