Many going to this? I see Aston Villa have been given the west stand , and around 3500 tickets , meaning there is likely to be more away fans than home . Has this ever happened to us at GM before ? Surely if villa send a good team town fans should come out in force ? Yet only Roland and Salop leisure stands open ?

does it matter who we sign this summer ? Does it matter if we play in league 1 or league 2?

Bit different, this is just a practice game with no bearing on anything.

Couldn't care less to be honest. I have very little interest in pre season games, especially those against the likes of Villa, Cardiff etc who we play at home, doesn't appeal to me watching us play a non competitive game against half of Villas team and half reserves, I hope Villa sell as many tickets as possible, more money for us!

does it matter who we sign this summer ? Does it matter if we play in league 1 or league 2? Yes it matters who we sign & yes it matters what division we are in. But does a pre season friendly against AV matter? No. Couldnt give a toss what the attendance be. They can have 3 sides of the ground if they want. It'll be more dough for us & the result will have no bearing on the season.

There's very few pre-season friendlies that could get me excited, Aston Villa is certainly not one of them. It's been quite entertaining as I work with a few of their who are looking forward to going but seem to think it's a huge game for us and how we must be looking forward to it. They seem confused when I tell them I'm not going as I've somehow managed to resist the lure of the mighty Villa.
Anyway, as I said on another thread, I suspect they will sell out and easily outnumber us. In the league it would obviously be a different matter

Pre season friendlies only have any interest for me in terms of them being at a ground I haven't been to, or if there is something else unusual i.e. A star player or an away game against a local non league team you don't normally play.
Other than that, they are incredibly dull affairs.

Would I be right in thinking that Andy Lochhead played that night for Villa as well?

Yes I stand corrected Letchy - was the previous season 13600 in the old girl as well - although it felt a great deal more.
First time I had ever seen a police dog with its teeth in the arse of a Villa fan when they tried to riot at the end of the game

This is great news. Extra money in the coffers let's be honest why not give villa and wolves extra seats that they will use and we won't.

Will we have to stop the game in the 26th minute and form a guard of honour when they substitute the odious twerp?

H - 3/11/87 L 2-1 David Leworthy A - 23/4/88 L 1-0 i was at both of them we were unlucky in both i remember villa having a pen in their home game but cant remember if they scored it or not pretty sure we went to stoke next and got a point to stay up at stokes old ground ,the game where we got packed into a small pen which really was unbearable and i was a young fit teenager at the time and was close to passing out a year before hillsbrough and things like this were looked at as normal at the time annoying thing was there was another pen a lot larger right next to us and it took about an hour for some stupid old chief super to agree to let us in it

He would have moved to Rangers not long after.
