Yeah! Gordon Brown's fault. I bloody knew it. The debate about who's fault it isn't will not be answered for a longtime if at all, hopefully not as long as it did with the Hillsborough tradegy. The problem I have is the hear and now, what needs to be done..and for me sadly TM has not met my expectations

The Tories have been in power for almost the whole of the time since that incident. They also voted down Labour's amendment to the Housing Bill a couple of years ago to make homes 'fit for human habitation'. There were 72 MP's that voted against that legislation who are actually landlords themselves. Guess which party the vast majority are from?
I believe Gordon Brown was PM in 2009. Nothing to stop him setting the ball rolling on reform.
I don't have any time for any of them.
I may be way off the mark, but didn't GB following the 2009 fire, order the inquiry that led to the 2013 fire regulations?

I'm not blaming anyone for this fire, yet, as you say let's see what comes from a systematic review of the root causes.
But I feel that the attitude of the Conservative party that -
Pushed years of austerity and cost-cuts as blind dogma (and then blithely announced this week that it was "over") Continually bangs on about red tape and health and safety as being a drag on "hard-working entrepreneurs" (when the reason for much of this stuff is because something horrible happened in the past) Has repeatedly sat on reviewing this area of Building regs for years Voted down legislation that aimed to improve conditions for tenants
Well, let's just say it's a pattern of behaviour that hasn't exactly been helping...

Have to be honest, watching live coverage I find it more than a little distasteful that activists are waving socialist worker placards around with "tories out" on them.
Really not the time or place imo.

The SWP are a grim bunch of rape apologists and leeches.
I had great pleasure in telling one of their activists to **** off when he tried to flog me their rag at a recent march.
People need to realise what they're holding on these marches and demos.

Dont think the government or council are helping matters either, what with may not speaking to relatives yesterday nor today , the housing minister refusing to comment and the council presenting a peaceful protest with a written statement and no-one actually speaking In fact I'd say those actions are almost inflammatory. I can easily see this exploding into something more violent tonight. Which will then take the headlines in the dodgy press rather than the actual cause of the disaster

What's really nauseating is the constant reference by every government minister - at every opportunity-of their praise and respect for our emergency services whilst they systematically go about undermining the very same organisations

I have been a strong Tory supporter and have what could be described as right of centre political views, I can honestly say I would drive Corbyn to no 10 myself if I knew for certain he would make a difference...obviously there Can be no such guarantees. So where does that leave us, we have in my opinion the right party in power but with the wrong leader, so obvious solution would be to get a new Tory leader....but who?? I love Boris but his tomfoolery isn't what the country needs, we need a firm, decisive and morale boosting leader...Churchill will surffice. I think most would agree that not all there chosen parties policies are necessarily the best, tories foreign policy may be more suited to the countries needs than labours likewise welfare may suit labour. Can't we pick 6 or so (number not restrictive) key areas...Welfate, Foreign, health etc...pretty much in line with current cabinet and vote for a Party we believe will best suit our interests. Defence - Tory Health - labour Environmental- green Trade - Tory The above as an example....naturally we would require a figure head to lead the cross party functions. So we could either have elections to choose one, similar to the speaker of the house or for me we take an existing leader and let her sort them out.....step forward her majesty .

This is my patch. I could write a book on the last few days. It's been chaotic, desperately sad, baking hot. It's felt like half of the country has either sent a chunck of their property across or turned up or done both. We've been bombarded by Amazon, DHL, Monsoon, M&S, EE, TalkTalk as well as thousands of well wishers etc. We have official rest centres crammed with donations, two town halls rammed and donations flowing out of pop up community centres. The council has literally ground to a halt to processes donations, support with logistics, support housing colleagues, volunteer at rest centres. It has also drawn upon the support of colleagues in Westminster and Hammersmith & Fulham LA.
This part of North Ken and in and around the Town Hall looks and feels like a warzone, residents are devastated and staff are likewise devastated.
There have been failures and are plenty of lessons to be learnt- but contrary to what the press will tell you the council has focused on council specific rest centres. Centres that have Housing officers, LAS, Dr's, nurses, adult and children's social workers, clothing, food, the red cross, police input and mental health practitioners. We have tried directing residents to these centres and using them as hubs. Unfortunately the one downside of such an overwhelming community response is that Mosques, churches, sports halls and all manner of places have popped up as refuge centres and somewhat confused the messaging. The council has either been too slow to respond to these centres and ineffectively coordinated with them, not had the resources (staff) to put in all of these pop up centres, made the strategic decision to try and work through an official hub base or all of the above.
I have been to the Westway (gym with 300 places to sleep that the Queen visited) and have helped coordinate another rest centre on the first day. I can assure you that there have been plentiful of council volunteers present trying to support residents. The Borough Emergency Centre is in operation 24 hours a day trying to manage and coordinate .
Unfortunately we lack two things information about missing people and the permission/support of senior police officials to help us manage the expectation and comms with residents on the ground.
I can fully understand why residents are so ****ed off and I accept the logic that they need to make noise and create momentum before the world loses interest in this story.
I also accept criticism of the chaotic nature of the council's response. I would however say that any local authority would struggle to deal with a 36 hour blaze in the heart of the community that incinerated 120 flats, displaced/killed upto 600 residents as well as having to evacuate hundreds of other residents from neighbouring blocks.
I accept that blame will be apportioned and it will likely fall on elected officials within the LA, senior managers at the TMO and likely impact upon the government, with the buck finishing at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
I've mixed with young eloquent women demanding answers that I can't give about their missing family. I've been told I am lying and part of a government conspiracy by a teenager who has lost 5 members of his family. I've been shouted at by a resident who accused me of plotting to break up the community. I've coordinated with senior managers at acute trusts to discharge patients who's children are intensive care or who's family have died and who's house has burnt down.
I've protected old ladies from outbreaks of violence between residents and police and used my body as a shield to prevent a women having seizures getting crushed as a crowd surged the rest centre. I've carried people to medical attention and like my colleagues tried to support our community. But in this environment this is not enough. Nothing we do will be enough and I get that, I understand, but please know we are doing the best we can to help, to support, to comfort, to house and to give answers and link family members.
And all of this time, despite having a home and a family to go back to I have felt empty, like my colleagues I feel there is more that I should be doing. I look at the evening standard and I have to withhold the tears, I find myself silently crying as I watch newsnight. RBKC, TMO and the community of North ken will never be the same again. No amount of hard work, sorrow or support will make these residents feel any better. They need recognition and respect, they demand answers and they want blood, but most importantly, the one thing we can't provide atm they want information about the 100+ people to charred to identify in Grenfell and dare I presuppose the numerous unofficial residents who were crashing on sofa's or unofficially living with tenants.
Sorry for the ramble

I read somewhere that Tory aim to be first government to reduce red tape resulted in policy that extra rules would only ever be implemented if two other ones could be removed at same time.
This led to a Tory minister refusing to make sprinkler systems mandatory in such buildings.

www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-40290158Billionaire media barons decry 'elf and safety gone mad, while conservative politicians deregulate to save themselves and their business owning chums a bit of money. Well guess what, 'red tape' is there for a reason, and your penny pinching selfishness has serious and horrific results

Sorry for the ramble What a remarkable post. I remember you from years ago- B&A football matches or possibly away supporters games. You certainly have no need to apologise and I cannot imagine the feeling of helplessness whilst giving so much of yourself to make a positive difference to people in their hour of need. Your empathy with their situation and frustration is obviously heartfelt and when asked questions you are unable to answer to be accused of fronting some plot must be soul destroying. Keep your head held high- I for one am exceptionally proud of a fellow Salopian in the midst of the turmoil that your Community finds itself in, doing what he can to make a difference. Nick

Huge respect to that post and how you've been helping Rob. I play footy at the Westway and just the scale of that place brings it home as to the number of people impacted. The community response all over the UK has again been incredible. I hope it's a long long time until something like this happens again.

What an emotional post by Shambles/Rob.
Must be an unbelievable feeling of helplessness when people want answers that can't be given.
As you've said the scale and nature of the incident will mean it will be a time yet before the final details and named deceased can be established. Those involved will be torn apart wanting to know whether their loved ones are among those lost, but as I'm sure Jamo will confirm the fire service and police will only release facts when they are absolutely sure and this is going to be a difficult task to 100% identify those involved.
As Alan said, look after yourself and yours.
Terry.

Firstly,RIP to the dead and condolences to people who lost family and their homes. So,according to leftists and the left wing media The PM has been exposed as an arsonist. One angry resident stated The PM was alledgedly caught on CCTV rubbing two rocks together on the first floor whilst several of her cabinet were waiting outside as lookouts in a large blue coach with 'Vote Conservative' splattered all over it although this is still unconfirmed. Owen Jones and John McDonnell have been out and about hunting anyone who looks like they would fit into a violent rent-a-mob to join a protest march followed by a compulsory riot. McDonnell has promised to supply petrol bombs and other weapons to attack anyone who has an ounce of authority. Ricky Tomlinson and any of his gang that are still alive are said to be making guest appearances. Gina Miller has dipped into her pocket again to provide all rioters with purple masks. Jones,in standard Mr Angry mode,is said to be furious with lazy young doctors who have refused to join said protest/riot as they won't get out of bed at the weekend for less than a £1000 an hour. Miss Diane Abbott is currently in talks with Mrs Miller struggling to come up with a figure to offer said young, lazy doctors an incentive to rise up. Meanwhile,Mr Corbyn has been spotted strolling around Islington asking people what day it is. My message to the people is....Let the authorities and emergency services get on with their jobs as all this protesting, etc is hindering them massively and lastly, why are you still ramapaging around the local town hall asking for a public enquiry when the PM has already clearly stated one is too take place imminently? Please note everything stated in this post is hearsay and unconfirmed.

Without going into it in depth, I agree with your sentiment 100%....the site of the unwashed on the news yesterday taking advantage, yes advantage! Of the situation to push agendas was sicking. I would say that equally applies to anyone trying to point score. You have me total support on this my good mate

Tonight's newsnight with may - where she suddenly turned up to speak - is unbelievable. Repeatedly fails to answer questions or accept responsibility. I can't believe people voted for this woman Do you mean turned up on Newsnight or at Grenfell Tower ? She turned up to speak to the BBC and gave an interview to newsnight. If it was meant to show compassion or strong leadership I'm not sure it did. It's on here www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-england-london-40239008
