I believe the person responsible for the contract paperwork is still at the club. Interesting comment.

I was just pondering how much this 20% alleged increase reduced our movement in the transfer market by, and I am presuming naturally we are talking about players who were with us in 2014/15 who stayed with us for the current season and when you weigh it up there were not a lot of them e.g. Vernon/Demetriou/Collins/Barnett/Halstead/Leutwiler/Smith/Clark/Caton any others? As Grandison and Akpa Akpro signed new contracts late on they would not be included in the 20% pay rise deal...of course Woods and Goldson would also benefit from the 20% increase but only too the end of August....
Lets hypothetically assume the retained players accounted for say £15000 a week salary in total, that I feel is a low estimate possibly, there would be an additional burden of £3000 a week for the 20% rise which would at best allow us one possibly 1/2 decent players salaries given an estimated weekly salary expenditure of circa £1500/2000 per experienced player ....
If those figures mentioned in the hypothetical and guessed figures above were somewhere near we would not have been able to improve the squad by much, unless of course we moved players on, which may help us to understand why the likes of Vernon, and Demetriou and latterly Collins and Barnett were frozen out....Add to this the thought we presumably figured a number of them were going to be here anyway after the 2014/15 season and therefore their 20% should have been factored in, and I start to think this 20% increase restricting our negotiating power dramatically is a bit of a smokescreen....
All theory and guesswork but just trying to logically make sense of our budget dilemma

All theory and guesswork but just trying to logically make sense of our budget dilemma I think you're right, it is a contributory factor, but the major issue has been players collecting a salary for no contribution to play. The 20% may well have cost us the ability to add one or two players to the squad. But in addition, Vernon, Wesolowski, Demetriou and Tootle for a large part of the season didn't play. So the combined 20% rise plus injury / player related issues have effectively cost us SIX potential first team players, and that's far too many for a team in our financial position. When you throw in the invisible Grandin, Wallace being injured virtually since the day he signed, Jordan Clark getting scant appearances (unfairly, in my opinion), and no doubt a sizeable chunk of salary being paid for both Barnett and Collins to appear for other teams (with Barnett only playing a bit part for a big salary prior to that), it's clear that we have effectively being spending a sizeable part of our player budget on players who rarely if ever contribute on the pitch.

On paper Mellon had a squad of 30 players to choose from, 5 more players than Burton, 6 more than Walsall.
Too many to all sense and purposes, as with the case of Grandin for example. Doesn't figure but must still must be getting paid, even if it's not a lot and do we pay Scott Vernon a decent package just to push the shopping trolley around on a Saturday afternoon?
And what of Anderson and Jones? If they've been given professional contracts then can they not make it to the bench once in a while for a league game?
Also, when all fit, too many loan players for the match day squad.
Whatever the size of the budget we must have a squad of quality not quantity next season. If it means running with a smaller squad than this season then so be it, other clubs do it and successfully so why not us? We are going to fill any gaps by using the loan market after all.

Fair comments Gwynedd Blue and Bury Shrew, which make the achievement of avoiding relegation even more amazing in spite of making it difficult for ourselves! No doubt quality signings are needed for 2016/17 season and that may even help us sell more season tickets and put bums on seats on match day which would give us more funds to play with!
