To keep quoting the 9th largest budget in div one I feel is i.m.h.o a red herring, as its pretty clear it was a 20% increased budget to start the season just with the same retained players because of the bonus that it is alleged was not factored in when working out what the club had to spend on new players wages.
Thus the alleged ditching of procuring players MM had already targeted because we could not afford them, added to the fact we lost our two best players Woods and Goldson just before the transfer deadline, which if all is true would have hamstrung MM's attempts at building a squad capable of competing in div one.
We were still stuck with this problem in January thus the offloading of the likes of Lawrence and Collins and Barnett to give us some wiggle room at the time of season where it is difficult to find decent players at a reasonable price or indeed any price...I suspect the rumours of Holt coming here, if true again, were stymied because of money too! All conjecture maybe but if these allegations rumoured above are accurate I am amazed how we have secured 50 points and safety in div one so my hat is off to MM
Ironically I thought player's like Brown and Whalley when first signed would not be the quality we needed for this league and were fill in cheaper procurements, but they turned out to be two of the better players...funny old game
It's clear the defence needs revamping with better more mobile league one ready players, but then this goes for the rest of the team too.
I am worried we have players like Wellens who has not had the impact I thought he might given his experience, and Black who despite his gritty efforts is a red card waiting to happen most of the time.
I am sure if MM can get the required backing we will have a league one worthy squad by the season start in August and I for one hope he is still here to prove that fact.....I have enjoyed the cup runs and the away form but obviously been dismayed by the home form
So once the dust has settled and players on higher salaries alleged to be the likes of Vernon, Collins and Barnett are moved on there may well be capacity in our budget to create a better squad this year starting almost from scratch again with the squad. It will not be about paying transfer fees or even large agent fees, it will be about a canniness in locating the players and selling the club to them and perhaps having a little more money to pay slightly bigger salaries....plus as is the necessity nowadays in lower leagues a good use of the loan market and get some Jack Grimmer and Kaikai like players in on a season long loan...
In summary MM and RW have a lot to talk about....
On a positive well done town for staying in League one!

And if true, this is what has effectively turned our season into the dog's breakfast it has become. And maybe MM in his interview yesterday was saying that if there's a repeat of him being denied the finances to produce a League 1 side, then he's off.

Being interviewed every week by James Bond as MM is I cant believe Mickey has'nt lumped him one yet......... " You've just given Dom Smith a two year deal, do you think he'll have a future in the game? "........and thats one of his better questions. First thing I heard him say when I put the radio on in the car last night with 20 odd minutes of the Crewe game to go was " its still Crewe 1 Doncaster 2" TOTAL NUMPTY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also while I'm at it why does Tim Nash always ask his questions so sheepishly and quietly as if he's going to fill his pants as he's so fearful of the reply he might get when interviewing MM........its as if he thinks he's talking to the Pope or something. Even Dunny who is by far the best of a bad bunch came out with this seasons all time great question to Mellon after the Wigan game. We've just been tanked at Home for about the 11th or 12th time and Dunny comes out with " Well Micky do you think we have just seen the Champions? ?? today "....FFS you couldnt make it up. I would bet good money that both our pre and post match interviewing by both The Star and Radio Slops has to be the worst in the League if not in the entire Galactic Football pyramid...........utterly clueless......what I finally don't understand though, and far more worrying, is why I am being so generous to them................

I agree the questioning has been far too bland, if not sycophantic, especially in James Bond's case.
Unfortunately, it's partly the product of the club's hostile approach to anybody who asks difficult questions. I suspect if reporters did put Mellon on the spot in the way he has deserved, they would rapidly find themselves frozen out.

I can put up with Dunn and Elliot, but 5 minutes of Bond and I have to switch off. The bloke sounds an absolute fool.

Seems to me that he's going to sit down with RW and discuss short term plans.
He's implemented longer term plans with the training ground, scouting system and that player analyst fella. This hints at him staying for the long term, but if the talks don't go well then who knows.

Difficult to gauge too much from the James Bond interview.
Much more to be ascertained from the words he had with the Star's Tim Nash. Stated very clearly that he had met the original objectives set by the chairman and followed this up by saying he will be sitting down with the chairman to discuss the next set of objectives. This wouldn't be the actions of someone about to clear his desk.
He used the phrase 'we' several times during the interview but plenty of mixed messages thrown in. Can imagine his head being pretty scrambled after that display. I know mines was.

"The situation was that the Chairman was very clear to me that he wants promotion next season. So I was very clear with him about what we need and who needs to stay or go. He disagreed with me. In the end, the Chairman is the boss and his word ends every discussion. I just couldn't sit back and accept things that I simply didn't believe in." (Graham Westley talking about his sacking.)
Hmmm.

Peterborough have not made progress in the league table for the past six seasons. When the chairman decides he knows more than his manager (Westley or not) from a footballing perspective then your club is stuffed.

It's been a tough league season for the manager, he would have been on pins yesterday waiting for the Crewe result come through. I for one don't read much, if anything into his post match comments given all the emotions that would have been going through his mind at that time. He would also have been under pressure given that our league form over the last 10 games has not been good, so a sense of relief that we were safe would have been tempered by the fact that we had stumbled over the finishing line.

If people care to look back over interviews with MM over the past season he makes several references to the support and backing he has received from the chairman. Perhaps people are reading too much into his words. I for one would not be surprised if he does decide to leave but then again I don't see him as a quitter and he may feel that he has unfinished business here. Only those close to him really know the answer.

I can't listen to Bond for long he really winds me up. Prior to the game today he was asking a fan who his player of the year was, his second question was; what flavour pie are you eating. Can't be doing with the bloke. Yes, some of Bond's stuff is sub Alan Partridge. Anybody who was half decent would have latched on to the sub-text of that interview and pushed Mellon harder. I suppose we will have to wait to see if Tim Nash got anything more. In my opinion Bond is essential listening. I find his interviews with various 5 year olds fascinating and love to know a) what pie they are eating 2) is it tasty 3) who their favourite player is 4) what they think the score will be and 5) are they at the match with their dad.

I don't think MM has unfinished business at town. I think he made it clear in his post match interview that he thought he had done the job he was brought in to do namely promotion and then keep us in Div 1.

Heard that James Hughes ready to walk if club in his eyes follow wrong path! Not sure the club would survive this cataclysmic event!!! Having listened to MM's Swindon pre-match interview I'd be stunned if he'd be leaving the club any time soon.

Heard that James Hughes ready to walk if club in his eyes follow wrong path! Not only would that leave a Board of one (which is what it's effectively been for 4 years anyway) but RW would be having to advertise for a new chauffeur for away games.

Just watched the full MM 50 minute 'pre Swindon' interview on shrewsplayer, very good watch if you want an insight into his true feelings and thoughts rather than the sensationalized hacked up rubbish served up by the Shropshire Star. I think the club could do itself a favour and make more of this sort of thing available in it's entirety on Youtube for all fans to view rather than just the paying shrewsplayer 'customers'. It would certainly help PR wise as he has lots of good stuff to say, and taken in their true context the statements within the news piece are not remotely dramatic, just part of a really honest conversation.

Good to see MM scouting for a new central defender so soon.

I enjoy the pre match interviews and have therefore subscribed to shrewsplayer for a couple of years now. However, the privilege has been very much watered down recently by tweets, YouTube snippets and SS reports appearing before the interviews go on to Shrewsplayer.
